I am a vacuum sealing enthusiast and have used one since the 1990s. We primarily use them for relatively short (under a year) bulk quantity to meal-size packaging of meats. However, I also have frozen leftovers, preserved open packages of bacon in the fridge, and sealed vegetables (like a cut avocado). When vacuumed and sealed, a cut avocado can stay fresh in the refrigerator for days. Currently, I'm using a Cabella unit that I bought used, as well as a Chinese chamber vacuum sealer (which is fantastic). I prefer premade bags to rolls, and I usually purchase off-brand bags because of the price. I have had very rare failures (2), and they happened because of a bag defect, not the seal. Love my vacuum sealers.

I've had three Foodsavers. You would have to pay me to buy another one. If you gave it to me, then I'd either sell it to some sucker, or give it to someone I didn't like. They didn't last long, but then again, I had large tasks for it which took over an hour. I couldn't find the Weston last year, so I went with the LEM's top model, Maxvac 1000. It was made for people like me who has a couple or deer or elk or beef to process that night. The FS could never come close to keeping up with my LEM. The Weston has a slightly larger pump than my LEM, but it is close enough. DO NOT buy the FS....all mine only lasted a year or less. After using my LEM, I was amazed how I instantly fell in love with it. Night and day difference! I chewed out a reviewer last year for doing a large comparison of sealers and the ladies wound up raving over a lightweight unit with a bunch of bells and whistles you will NEVER use. Their main reason for recommending it was because...since it was so light, it was much easier to move and store. I guarantee you that POS they were pushing wouldn't last but just a little bit longer than it's 90 day warranty. Oh, I think I have something like a five year warranty on my LEM. This is definitely one of those now rare moments when you actually get what you pay for. If you are serious about vacuum sealing, and do it frequently like me, buy the LEM Maxvac 1000, or Weston's 3000. Short of spending way over $1000 for a chamber vac sealer, you cannot and will not go wrong!

I just chucked my piece of crap food saver into the trash as hard as i could throw it and that was after punching it a few times lol. Haven’t had it even a year won’t suck all the air out anymore useless trash. That’s why I’m here for something that actually works.

@@thisandthat7927 I do love my LEM Products 1088B MaxVac 1000 Vacuum Sealer. Look into it. It is a workhorse. They didn't have the Weston in stock when I ordered it. The only thing I do not like is the fact that they reduced the HP a little on it compared to the old ones. It has not been a problem for me at all though. I like to have an evening of sealing after buying bulk from Costco. No need for cool down. No annoying BEEEEEEEEEEP... sound when done sealing. It is just a heavy duty...no nonsense...minimum bells and whistles unit. Meant to handle big game processing without needing to cool down every five seals.....such as the Foodsaver. I put my heal to my last one and stomped it into a thousand piece...I had had enough of their garbage. Childish of me..yes...but better than going to the corporate office and shoving it up the CEO's tailpipe where it belonged. For some stupid reason they have laws regarding that. Go figure. ;)

Thank you for the review I had the food saver that you have on your table for probably 15 years and used it regularly the heat strip just went out in it and so did the vacuum pump at the same time so I’m replacing it with a Weston. I may regret that because other than getting the bag to go in to the food saver machine has been absolutely awesome

I have that Foodsaver in your right which is a piece of cr@p. I used to have a Gamesaver silver which lasted for years and my only son took it for himself. Now I’m returning it so I can get a better one. But I really want a commercial one because I vacuum a lot in mason jars.

I have a weston pro-2300. You can use the center port on the weston as an accessory port. I use the mason jar sealer all the time.

I have that exact foodsaver model but I use it to vacuum seal clothes. All my hunting/outdoor/outwear clothing gets sealed up to save room on the bulk. Example - My thick Level 3 EWOL fleece jackets shrink down from 6" folded to a half an inch. I also roll up my wool blankets and do the same. Base layers....fold them up and seal. I did not know about the phone idea.. Great thinking!

I load my storage ammo in bags now. I live in the humid south. I never really thought about my side arms, I have them in my gun safe. But....... good idea to have one or two sealed, for my bug out bags. Keeps the "wet" out. Thanks for the mind nudge.

I have a Cabela’s commercial grade vacuum sealer. I do large quantities of bbq and continuously vacuum sealer a lot of bags. My sealer is not vacuuming the bags all the way down. It will stop and start sealing with a lot of air left inside the bag. I’ve had the machine close to 2 yrs. With what I paid for it I’m a little disappointed. Loved the food saver I had before other than the over heating problem. I usually do 25 to 30 bags when I do pulled pork usually around a 120 pounds of meat. May have to consider a Weston sealer.

Like some others have stated FoodSavers dont last long I had one used it for fish "only" and only 4 times a year about 10 or 12 bags each time kept it spotless never wet juice in tray. Lasted 5 yrs and died so that's about 180 bags that is nothing for a supposedly FoodSaver. I opened it up trying to fix it and its a plastic mess impossible to fix. There junk but unless you want to spend a fortune there about the only ones out there.

used the magivac maxima 2 the last 3 salmon seasons in alaska and from hunting/fishing in maui so it’s been put to heavy use. it burned in the fire and now looking to buy a new one for this season. the review helped a bunch! any others you’d recommend for heavy use?

i've been shopping around for vacuum seale i just curious can you use the food saver one on a regular plastic bag and a polybag why i asked i sell online i might want to seal a bag back shut i do know you had to have the vacuum seal bags to do the vacuum option i know i could just buy a heat sealer but i also want use a vacuum sealer option to do food prep that way i can have onr machines do both jobs

Question: Home Depot has the Pro-3000 listed for a ridiculous $529 (reg up to $770!). Do you believe that a Home Depot Westin pro-3000 is any different than one directly from Westin? Like does Home Depot get the B roll supply, or maybe has plastic where non HD has metal for some components? (They do that with Sump pumps)

Good luck! Spent 700.00 and it worked 4 days! A common problem with the Avid Armor is an E1 error! We just sent ours back! Very disappointing!

I have a Weston Pro 3500 that, for no apparent reason, stopped pulling vacuum. Everything else works and the motor fan sounds normal. It has been used lightly and is about two years old. I also have a chamber vac I use for most things, which I bought because the bags are cheaper and will do liquids and wet food better than the Weston. It runs a longer than the Weston, but there is a use for both. If you can offer any guidance onaddressing this issue, please do so. Thanks.

Not wanting the worst case scenario, your gaskets may need replacing….. but it sounds like the vacuum pump has failed, I’m no expert, but perhaps there is a connection somewhere that could be letting air into the system? My Weston has been working fine( knock on wood). I wish you luck on finding a solution, if you do find the problem please let me know.

Anyway, with that said... I'm planning to seal clothes, which I've just measured the width of. 15" should work. Thanks for your reply🙏 I'm gonna go ahead and order the Weston👍

Avid Armour has good products. Weston has a good 1100 (11") model for $160-190. There's a 13.5" magicvac Jumbo 30 model (avid armour). Lex makes good products (solid). Amazon is pushing plastic "commercial" Primaltek 15" and 12" but it's probably Chinese plastic = failure. I keep going back to the Westin for a commercial quail processing business we offer. HomeDepot has the Pro-3000 for $529 online right now. Amazon often has the 2300 (same size - 15" but without the manual pulse vacuum mode, which we need as we vac seal quail eggs.

I'm not saying your review was bad but just not what i was looking for. you showing a little strain when lifting the weston caught my eye . next time can you show the military bag sealer and what the bags of both look like after a year in the freezer. After all isn't the end result what we're looking for in a review? Would you keep the weston ? Any failures? So from your review i am assuming any bags will work on both? thanks

I don’t have a military sealer, the Weston is much heavier because as I said it’s more of a commercial sealer, as I said in the video the seal is more pronounced on the Weston vs the food saver, both will work, it’s just how much you going to use the machine, if your prepping for the zombie apocalypse get the weston, if you want to occasionally seal some food to put up the food saver will be fine. The bag quality will determine the lifespan of the end result, I said in the video I liked the weston bags over the food saver branded ones because they felt thicker more robust. At the end of the day any bags should work, all your doing is storing them , not throwing them around. All I can give is my experience with both machines, if sealing is a priority for you, as I said spend the money and get the weston, it will outperform the food saver many times over. As far as a year in the freezer, I’ve had maybe one or two issues with the food saver bags, but I seal a bunch of food. I will say so far I’ve had zero issues with the Weston bags or the machine.
