Absolutely brilliant it’s makes you appreciate how far transperth has come and the network is about to expand even more ❤and transperth is the beating heart of WA 😊

I was living there, out at Joondalup, when the it was under construction, and of course the grand opening. Good memories. Sad to see what Perth has become now.

What has it become? The suburban rail network has gone from strength to strength and is currently undergoing the biggest expansion project in its history.

I remember this line opening, I forgot how short the trains were back then.

I remember that old red and white striped fabric that covered the seats. Thanks for uploading this! I grew up south of the river, so I didn't ride this line often. Trains were very much a "north of the river thing" to us.

I grew up south of the river. The Armadale line was nothing short of a warzone a lot of the time....no I'm not joking. Hopefully the new revamped and raised line will help the issues.

Built in less than 4 years! More like ten years if built now

What gives you that impression? The Ellenbrook Line began construction in January 2022 and is on track to open in December 2024 and it's only a few kilometres shorter than the Joondalup Line.

And the Mitchell Freeway is still jammed and full of roadworks. That hasn't changed much

I'd be interested to know if they envisaged the trains going to Yanchep and by what year they thought
@MitchellFreeway6 ай бұрын
The government has been considering a railway to Yanchep since at least 1901 www.metronet.wa.gov.au/news/latest-news/category/yanchep-rail-extension/rail-sought-since-1901

A 10 ride ticket that offered a bulk buy discount. You would purchase it at a newsagents and insert it into a machine on boarding. It would stamp the trip expiry time and punch out one of your ten rides.

@@psychosquirrel555 there were single, 10 or 40 trip MultiRiders. They also had a magnetic strip and printed each trip on the card but didn't physically punch the card. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MultiRider

The ones I am referring to may have been phased out with the new trains but were definitively in service when I started my first job in June ‘92 :)

Was there Perth underground back then?
@MitchellFreeway10 ай бұрын
No, most Joondalup Line services continued through to Armadale (and vice versa) via Platform 5 and 6. Additional peak services terminated in a dock platform at the west end of the station (originally Platform 1). Perth Underground was not opened until 2007.

@@MitchellFreewayso you saying that Joondalup line services continue to Armidale well that was probably before my time catching public transport
@fotoautomatmusic3 ай бұрын
@@JamesParadiso yes just like the fremantle to midland line always has, joondalup used to go to armadale. Now it has separate underground since mandurah line was constructed and it goes yanchep to mandurah.
