The Hammons Family - Remembering For Generations

The old-time music of the Hammons Family of Pocahontas County, West Virginia tells the story of the early Appalachian frontier. This year, nine members of the Hammons clan, including Lee Hammons, will be inducted into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame in honor of their songs, stories, riddles, and tall tales.
Trevor Hammons is the great-grandson of Lee Hammons. He’s also a talented musician who grew up surrounded by the music and stories about his well-known family. Although he started with the guitar, he was soon drawn to the banjo, just like Lee. Now he plays the banjo in the same style as his great-grandfather to ensure that the Hammons music will continue to be played and appreciated.

Love this, my family, originally spelled Hamman, came from Greenbrier county into Kentucky in 1782, the description in this video is still very true, all my folks have been musical and woodsmen, from West Va, and now to northeast Texas where I live. All the old timers in my family, including myself haha, were grand story tellers and tall tale tellers, full of humor and music, and sometimes temper lol

@@Subqueen-gy4jp I really dont know, if so would be very distant, my line was in Greenbrier County way back, historical marker west of Lewisburg about the Ft Donnally Indian attack has my 5th gen. grandfather on it, Philip Hammond, tho he didnt spell the name Hammond himself. They went into KY and were attacked by Indians on Flat Creek near Whitley station, his wife carrying dead baby walked into the station tho she was wounded in head. Much later some moved all around, some back to West Va I think, and northereast Alabama, then after the War my line moved to Texas, tho I have been back to west va several times and love it there and KY

@@BenSHammonds My family tree took my into Hammons, Hammonds and Crafts. Archaelous Craft is my 7th generation direct ancestor. He was married to Elizabeth Adams. A soldier of the revolutionary War private of North Carolina.
