Have used that oil filter. It’s great. I’m sure that Westway V-twin oil is great. But I prefer to run Belray conventional primary oil and for trans, a 75W 140 gear oil.

Good vlog, I purchased a 20 litre drum that will last 3 years on my diesel 67 plate transit connect and recently used Westway on the wife’s ecosport 1 litre, very pleased with this brand plus I use blue print filters as well, kind regards to you and everyone out there, Mark from Billericay 😃👍

Peace of mind, is most important to Me, H-D have been around for a long time and seem to know about Oils. For a few pound extra. I will stick with Syn 3. Ride safe Alf.

Been using Westway for years on several different Harleys. M8 and twin cam. Never had any problems and I ride all year round plus a 2000 mile plus European trip every year.

Keep an eye on the oil filter, there have been a few leaks develope where the nut part is spot welded to the filter housing, may be a different brand but worth watching. I would have used an H-D filter, the later type is longer with a higher capacity and filter area than the original M8 type.

I have seen firsthand where the oil filter nut has broken off during removal... it may have been caused by an over tightened filter. One was a K&N filter. I don't recall the brand on the second one.

I’ve been using Westway in my Land Rover for years with great success. I spoke to them today and have bought some oil for my HD. Very knowledgeable interesting they mentioned the 20w50 can be used in all three applications, engine, primary & transmission. It is apparently GL4 rated.

My M8 Fat Bob had the annoying ticking sound from the top end, changed from HD oil to Amsoil and the ticking sound disappeared almost instantly, I used separate engine, primary and gear oil from Amsoil, runs quiter, cooler and the gear change is slicker. No trouble finding neutral either. Also used the Hiflo oil filter.

Thanks for the heads up Alf, I will be very interested to see the results of your test. It does seem every time I go into my dealership service items have gone up and this could be the answer.

@@wrighty338 the only other oil I’ve used is Mannol which wasn’t to bad . After some research on some great reviews I went over to west way oil 5L £32.99 when Harley use screaming eagle oil £20 1L . & £600 so I can do it my self for about £50 and I keep every receipt of items I buy . Can’t fault it 👍🇬🇧🇬🇧

You will know if you cannot find neutral very well... Amsoil primary oil has always been my go to because I can find neutral easily. As for transmission and case, I use the HD dino oil. I only ride roughly 2000 miles each year. I change my oil every year regardless of miles. So many oil makers claim their stuff is better than every other oil. If you do not allow your oil temps to exceed 230*, I believe any oil for air cooled v-twins is absolutely fine. As for the filter, I have read reviews that say the Amsoil oil filter is the best. It will be interesting to see if your top end becomes more noisy or not. I found that Amsoil made my top end noisier than the dino oil. So, I no longer use it in the tranny and case. Fueling recommends that you only use dino oil in the M8. Why? I do not know. It may have something to do with HD's piston rings. Keep us posted on your experience and thoughts. Good video :-)

Hi Alf, I have used the Westway's oil in my classics for ages and found it to be ok, be very interested to see how it fairs in a modern bike, specially when it comes to temperature . I use AMS oil but you get so many opinions re oil and hype its very hard to make a choice on fact. The AMS oil is very pricey and really cant make my mind up on it, specially when as I mentioned to you on my strip down the amount of wear on my rocker shafts. By the way I have fitted the Screamin Eagle adjustable rockers and ,,, no more ticking noise !!! she's now as quite as when new. Keep it up mate

Dont use the 20-50 in all 3 holes. Yes it can be used but is not the best Use a gearbox oil in the box and you will find it shifts better and neutral is easier to find. Formula Plus is specific for the primary, if you cant find an equivalent use that Dont use trans fluid I use Redline Shockproof for the gearbox, nicer shifting, yes you can feel the difference

Used same oil same filter on my 2020 low rider Spain into Faro on this oil no problems people forget Harley don't make oil they buy the best deal they can get a con like most Harley labled gear, use Westway oils in both my bikes never use for all 3 holes like Harley say think 20/50 to thin for gear box,use their oil in my Land Rover and my VRS, spoke to Paul many times over past years nothing he doesn't know about oil very helpful man as for all the crap about synthetic the loop holes are vast what can be synthetic why do Harley not put on bottles what their oil is work it out their oil is whatever they want to convince you to buy like they don't make most things just put their name on others products in all you don't know what oil they sell you because they don't give any numbers or anything but people trust them not done so for years but I'm happy with this oil in both my Harley's over£45,000 cost me so use it Alf let me know what you think please Michael

Interesting Alf. What mileage have you done. I change my engine oil every 3-4 thousand miles. Was there ever a follow up on the carbon on the piston crown? Did your breather mod work? Hope so coz I did similar to mine. By the way Amsoil rules!

Have you considered running Sea Foam or similar gas additive? Amsoil makes an additive called Quickshot. I use it in every fillup along with their octane booster.

There are tons of oil all claim to do a good job. All exceed Harley spec.. GREAT. Me.... it's Amsoil all the way. Look up the numbers and tests against other oils.. enough said.. The ticking on the top end, it a common noise relevant to the M8 motor. Nothing to worry about . Shiny side up 👍

Never skimp on oil. Don't use any oil not recommended by HD. You should be using SAE 20W-50. That bike does not need full synthetic. Check your owner's manual, and check with HD service center in UK for Westway. It's probably OK, but don't "try" it. That's a dumb way of selecting a premium oil for your bike. Get the official recommend from HD certified service. marcus
