Upon graduation from engineering school I worked in the engineering department for a company named Wilputte Corp. that designed and built coke ovens in USA from 1975 to 1983. I worked on a new battery of 60 5-meter ovens from design to commissioning in Canada, and a complete pad-up rebuild of a 5-meter battery in Ashland Kentucky. In late 1983 the business prospects were shrinking, as more mills were either sending coal overseas to be coked, or were just buying coke from overseas, as retrofitting their ovens for the increasingly stringent pollution requirements were getting too costly. I jumped from that industry to the steel minimills, and worked the rest of my career there until retirement a year ago. I have pictures from both parts of my career on my home office wall. I found the steel industry to be challenging and rewarding, and wouldn't change anything if I had to do it over again.

Thank you for sharing your vast career experience. You are absolutely correct steel making and it's associated industries are really interesting and challenging also. I also enjoy this industry very much. All type of engineering applications can be found here. Thanks again and please subscribe my channel also.

Mr Sajal Chakravorthy, Very good explanation.Some points like how coal is feeding and how it can be burn without oxygen can be explained in detail. Thank you .
@iamsajalchakraborty4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments. I will upload one video of coal feeding in future. Actually it's not burning. You can say roasting without supply of oxygen to extract most volatile matters present in coal.
@PAHighlander243 жыл бұрын
The ovens are airtight, so once the charging lids are closed after charging coal into the oven, the oven is under negative pressure from the gas offtake system and the air remaining in the oven is quickly removed. As the volatile compounds are driven off during heating they are also removed by the gas offtake system.

I need coke dry quenching process.
@iamsajalchakraborty4 жыл бұрын
Briefly, red hot coke is cooled down in inert gas medium and released heat may be used to generate stream and may be used to generate power. Main differences are heat can be recovered in dry quenching, less generation of dust and greater coke strength. Thank you for your queries. Please subscribe the channel and share with others

Sir I want to know that , how moisture maintained in Coke after quinchinching . What is level moisture of Coke is used in blast furnace
@iamsajalchakraborty3 жыл бұрын
Good question and thank you for that. I am sorry, I don't have the correct answer. Process Engineer can answer your question properly. I think, max permissible moisture content in coke may be around 4%.
@PAHighlander243 жыл бұрын
After quenching the coke is still hot enough that all the quenching water evaporates. I don't know how it is stored and handled once it is conveyed to the blast furnaces, nor the moisture content when charged into them.

is there any chance to recover the steam generated from the coke wet quenching system and convert to water ( either raw water or treated water).
@iamsajalchakraborty3 жыл бұрын
First of all thank you for your comment. Recovery of water from generated stream in wet quenching can be done, but that recovery will be economically viable or not, that is a point. However, spillage of water on the ground during quenching is recovered and reused. Please subscribe my channel also. Thanks

I'm surprised to see there is no traveling hood system on this battery to capture the emissions during pushing. In the US they are required, so the emissions can be captured and treated in electrostatic precipitators.
@iamsajalchakraborty3 жыл бұрын
First of all thank you for your comment. You are absolutely correct, mobile hood system is must for collecting emissions. It is required for zero emission of coke oven as well as environment compliance also. It also has hood system. Unfortunately at that time it was down for some emergency maintenance.
