“When making a tote/shopper bag, is it a better idea to leave the top of the bag open with the resist protruding or should I felt around the resist on all sides, and only after some shrinking cut the top, take the resist out, and then rub the edges to “seal” them?”
This is a question I got a couple of days ago. And because it’s a frequent question, here’s my tip in case you’re dealing with the same issue.
I would leave the top of the bag open with the resist protruding. I know not everybody does it like this.
But here are the reasons for my choice:
1) The edges look much more well-finished if you don't cut them and "seal" them. I only cut my felt if there is no other option.
2) Presuming you'd want to add handles to your tote, it's a lot easier to do if you don't close the felt on the top side of the resist.
Hope this helps!
