WETLANDS OF TERAI

What are Wetlands? The Terai, southern plains of Nepal is home to all of the wetlands in Nepal. Rich in biodiversity, and a source of fertile agricultural soil, these wetlands are vital for the proper functioning of our ecosystems, and for the sequestration (capturing) of CO2 from the atmosphere.
Protecting these wetlands is vital for our environment.

The rise in CO2 leads to increase in global greening because CO2 is basic requirement for photosynthesis. Thus CO2 increase helps to increase global greening , and global greening has increased by 40% despite forest cover having reduced by 1% of total land area due to human activities.
