A lot of people on KZbin see it as their job. Take Midlevelmedia for example, he admitted to it in a recent video. A lot of these physical media KZbinrs buy these expensive sets for clicks and views, they need to make their money. That’s the problem. We need more people like you to make these types of videos. Spread the word.

Excellent video. The question any collector (of anything) must ask him or herself is: Am I doing this because it brings me joy or because I'm psychologically addicted? It can be difficult to tell where the joy stops and the addiction begins, but as a recovering collector myself, I'm convinced the one leads to the other. You're not buying anymore because it gives you joy, but because you can't stop. The feel-good endorphins your brain released in your early collecting phase have been depleted through years of buying, and now you're basically acting out of habit. As any collector knows, it is difficult to stop once you're trapped in a repetitive loop of buying. What I have found to be equally satisfying, however, is keeping only the items I truly enjoy and donating the rest. I've culled my CD collection more than once and it was much easier than I had anticipated. I found out how easily and happily I could live without the things I once considered prized possessions.

I mean I think that you’ll always want to keep movies you really love or anything that you collect. Downsizing collections will happen at some point but to say there’ll come a point where you don’t want any of it goes against what makes people usually start collecting which is being able to own something that can become scarce if streaming goes down or streaming simply does not have the movie you want to watch

If I'm honest, my collection has grown at an enormous speed over the years. But since 2024 I've kept the brakes on a bit. I buy things new and no longer leave the second-hand store with bags full of DVDs. I also try to improve my collection. to keep it more diverse (not just films) I now also buy Star Wars figures and Harry Potter things and the occasional Funko pop I have two cupboards where my collection is kept I have enough room to let it grow but if I ever get to the point come that the space has run out, I stop, I put the brakes on and that gives peace and breathing space. I once thought I would stop completely, but that is too extremely nice that you are making this KZbin video. I think many people are struggling with this I wish you a Merry Christmas

This video needed to be made! As a media collector for 40 years, I’ve greatly toned it down and started to appreciate the stuff I already have, instead of looking for the next thing to purchase. I also have stuff in totes that I revisit and ask why. It’s amazing how quickly things become dust collectors. Happy Hollidays!!

This was me at one point with clothes and video games. I’d buy stuff just because it was on “sale” and wouldn’t wear most of it or games would just sit there and collect dust. I sold, gave away and donated 90 percent of those clothes and sold half my gaming collection. Kept the games that games mean the most to me or I’m currently playing. I still have a lot of games but nowhere near what I had before. I now just take up less than half of a standard closet instead of the whole thing plus totes. A lot of stress has come off my shoulders for sure 😊 keep up the the fight to living a simpler life 💪

There is no problem buying physical media. Just as long you dont everything under the sun just to have a massive movie collection & just to make ytube videos. Only buy what you want to own and not buy a movie just bc it has a cool cover or a cool slipcover. Bc by doing that then you become a movie hoarder & your collection becomes a clutter & you will have wasted money & shelves space on movies that will just sit there and collect dust and take up space

I finally came to the conclusion that I’m not going to watch the 600 Blu Rays I have so when 4k was introduced, I’ve bought maybe 20 and those are movies that I absolutely love. 99% of my movies are in boxes in storage room. Sure, streaming services don’t offer the same quality as 4k but it’s very easy to just plop down on the couch and find something quick to watch. Especially on Amazon Prime as they have tons of great 80s and 90s movies. I watch maybe 3 movies a week and new releases eventually come to streaming services. Then I told myself, why would I pay $40+ for a movie I might watch once a year. I also have 1000+ video games plus many statues and other memorabilia, so space for movies is very limited now. On a side note, I would love to have that House Party poster in the background. Is it signed by Kid and Play?

I'm feeling this especially lately. There's so many releases, all tempting me to spend more. I buy very few "Big box of cr@p" editions - only 2 so far, but it all adds up. Those Black Friday deals have a sting in the tail - I picked up titles that I'd been putting off, but at £11 each, I couldn't resist. But if I wasn't prepared to buy them at full price (or a bit less), did I really want them ? I need to work on this.

You is right on point on consumer buying multiple copies of movie. It's starting with best buy, target and Walmart with different slipcover or steelbook and lenticular covers. Great video on the state of collecting as a whole. It's definitely a slippery slope. We don't need everything, that much is for sure. I have so many movies and games that are in boxes and not even on a shelf scattered all inside of the house. I think we all need to cull our collections to some extent. It is a fine line between collecting and hoarding and I think sometimes people get carried away with it. I am definitely buying less and less but the bug still hits me sometimes. I think the best way to do it is have a single room or shelf and keep everything in there. If it's in the garage, you may as well give it away or sell it because you will never see it again. It is okay to sell everything and start over, too. The hunt is one of the most fun parts about collecting as it is.

I personally think as a past collector you get to a point in your collecting journey where you realise the only thing that truly matters is your Family and the memories created from the items you once collected also on how bad the Economy truly is and will be come, so you tend to lose touch with the more Materialistic items and instead hold the memories of them and how they came about closer than you do your more physical and tangible objects. In edition they tend to also devalue massively in price from what you originally paid. They never however devalue in YOUR HEART. I still own statues ect however only the fair few once’s I do have left have strong connections.

I think prices are going up because most people dont want physical stuff. Most of my friends never even bought a bluray player. Streaming is good enough. So its pretty hardcore collectors kind of laserdisc.back in the day. Also companies have to pay to license the films and then restore them, shoot special features, pay for box art and disc duplication. My advice is be selective and watching less youtube content has helped me reduce purchases also lack of space and having kids.

I have over 3000 but I slowed down full-time doing it probably in 2020 I used to be dumb go to Walmart and I’ll get 100 bucks worth of five dollar DVD / bluray bin yes the Bible movies first day unreleased day not knowing nothing about a movie and just buying it and thinking well if I don’t like it it was it was only 20 bucks loss I mean, I got hundreds of hundreds of movies I’ve had for probably 15 years easy and I’ve still never seen that yet back when I most of it when I didn’t have room, I always unless it was a special edition one of my favorite movies. I would just throw with the case and put the disc in CD binders and label them. I have over. 15 of them with. 300-500 movies in them the only way I’ll double dip of different additions or still books would be some of my favorite movies all time and steelbooks I probably have over. 300ish I mean for the Deadpool Wolverine. I just bought it on Amazon and didn’t even bother to try and get it at Walmart cause I knew it would be sold out and it wasn’t worth the hassle so I just didn’t even hesitate paying 70 bucks on Amazon for every editions but I don’t know how many times I’ve bought the same movie and realized later. Oh, I already have it great. But at least I don’t give a shit about slip covers and I’m not a diehard fan or I need 4K as long as it’s on Blu-ray. I’m good cause I’ve never had a Blu-ray that’s ever messed up on me but unfortunately I’ve had new DVDs with no scratches on it not apply so nowadays I just mainly try to upgrade some of the movies that are on dvds but now I just mainly try to get horror movies collections that I don’t own ect and at the same time I am a reseller I do sell movies. I’ve double dipped on or upgraded to that I still could sell it’s never ending. And I’m not a fan of digital collection because we all know you don’t own it and it could be taken away just like that and the all the movies on the app but you don’t need Wi-Fi to watch movies on disc
