I also pre-ordered the Frank Capra set and it hasn't shipped yet. On Zavvi, I pre-ordered Trick R Treat 4K 1 week before Halloween. And that still has yet to show up.

Amazon absolutely failed me on over 12 preorders this year alone. Canceled all of them because the shipping date was either waaaay off (I preorder months in advance to get it early, not 14 days later) or there would be a problem like not having any outer sleeve. At this point, I went back to straight up looking in regular stores. Amazon makes no money out of me unless it's a deal and has already been released/in stock. Otherwise, Amazon is a no-deal for preorders. It's poison.

I ordered 4 blu-rays and 4k’s from Amazon. The carrier failed to deliver, after keeping them in their facility. When I saw it is I called asked for replacement! They refused! I had to wait until they arrived back in the Amazon store. After two weeks Amazon replaced my order, the same happened!! This time I learned since they already send a replacement, I had to wait again and they couldn’t send another replacement! Guess what happened?!! Two of the items increased in price and one run out of stock!! I asled Amazon if I could order (before I get my money back) and they would pay the difference! They confirmed verbally and written! And I bought them! I had to send a proof I received it so they would pay the difference!! AND THEY NEVER DID. THEY REFUSED. I am ordering from Europe I had to pay 40$ for shipment and 40$ for the 4K. This is my single most expensive movie now! Thank you Amazon! You cant trust them!! They dont care that you are a 25 year long customer!!!

Dude, you are absolutely correct! I can’t tell you how many discs I return to Amazon. Brand new discs are terribly scratched, the plastic tabs inside are broken at times and the outside is often marred, torn or dented, in the case of steelbooks. Amazon and the people shipping this stuff just don’t care about these items. They just don’t seem to appreciate these collectibles like we do. I am right there with you!

I can't understand why Walmart won't just commit, and be the physical media store for real. They have expanded the sections, they are just filled with DVD's of TV shows, and stuff. Barely any blurays or collectable stuff. They have like 1 each of the new releases out in that end cap thing, and a couple steel books. They do have those A24 special releases now which is cool. It feels like they keep dipping their toes in the water, but just not going for it. As soon as they stock more stuff regularly and the word gets out, they will have sales for sure, but it's a crap shoot going into most locations. I go in and buy new releases sometimes to support it because I would like them to at least keep doing what they are.

I've preordered 3 times through Amazon: Terminator 4k steelbook - arrived on time, unharmed, in one of their crappy bubble envelopes. Gladiator 4k steelbook - arrived on time, unharmed, in a small box with packing paper. Arrow's Conan Barbarian and Conan Destroyer 4k Ltd Sets - both arrived about a month late, but unharmed and shipped in a box, plus the price drop right before they shipped ($30 each!!). My biggest issue with Amazon is that there are so many listings with pictures that show slips but one quick read through recent reviews and you find out they're not included. Usually with titles that have been out for a while, though. But still, stinks when it shows up without a slip. Slipcovers are a gamble when ordering from just about anywhere. Some come shrink-wrapped, others the slip is exposed, while the case is wrapped. Slipcovers have squared off edges, and the cases are rounded - so the corners of slipcovers are always at risk for dings. I'll still order titles through Amazon, especially when they run their "3 for the price of 2" on 4k's, but nothing beats shopping in person for titles, new or used.

I’m not going to stop Amazon either, but maybe go else where for the day one must haves. Late really sucks, better than damaged. Amazon has been slipping lately! My Godzilla Minus One steelbook pre order was cancelled and that’s not the first time. For boutique purchases I’m buying through Orbit, Diabolik, etc. or directly from the boutique label. All of my Vinegar Syndromes, and Second Sights I order directly from them. Amazon actually has it, but I can’t trust them for my premium purchases.

The thing that is really starting to annoy me is Amazon’s pricing. Willow 4K preorder went up today as a limited print steelbook (which will be the only option available in the US) for $65. One thing I no longer do is group purchases for single order delivery from Amazon. You have the option to ship them all together to save packaging, and them money. Sounds good for the environment and I don't mind cutting them a break. I'm not in a rush but almost every time I've done this, something goes out of stock after I already bought it, like they sold it out from under me to somebody that wanted it sooner. I just have them ship everything separate now to ensure I get what I paid for in a timely manner especially if it's a popular item that was on sale.

Building on your point of damage, in my area only (Twin Cities MN): for some reason our Walmart system here has picked up their packaging efforts greatly. No more razor cuts on steelbooks no more dents and they are wrapping the movies in plastic air bubbles. Also Walmart in my area has begun to use sturdier boxes instead of the bagged air bubbles that never work from Amazon. Just a tip for anyone to give a shot as we are all looking for different ways to simply get what we order in good condition.

Amazon has become a really dodgy website. If it weren't for the fact they've been the top for decades, or was suddenly released today, no one would buy from there. Confusing UI, reviews that don't actually relate to the product you're looking at, tonnes of fake and knock off products by brands you've never heard of, different editions of the same product being listed under the same details so you can't know what the difference is between editions and have to go hunt for the one or two reviews out of hundreds that even mention it. I've even had items delivered to the wrong address on multiple occasions. They refunded it, but that's no use when an item sells out on preorders. I've also had an item shipped with no packaging. The delivery label was simply stuck to the cellophane. Needless to say it arrived damaged. I tried to send it back, and was told I needed to package it up lest it get damaged! The replacement arrived with the same lack of packaging, but thankfully undamaged.

This is by far my favorite video of 2024. I have felt this way ever since Best Buy threw in the towel on selling physical media. I went from buying about 5 to 8 films a week (usually 3 or for on Tuesday Blus-day and then 2 or 3 more on Saturday to watch with the wife) Maybe a film I was on the fence and a movie she wanted to watch. Anyway, my point is that I went from that to buying 3 or 4 movies a month. Some months without buying anything at all. I used to love going into Best Buy, Target and Wal-Mart and getting a gallon of milk and a movie. Or going into Best Buy for an SD card.... and a movie. That joy is now gone. I NEVER got acclimated to the whole notion of online shopping. I hate to wait for ANYTHING more than I should. If a certain item came out on certain day, then I wanted it on that day. And I also loved the thrill of the hunt. Say, Best Buy was sold out, well Target across town has two copies left and it was an hour till closing time, Let's go! That is now gone. And quite frankly, the way things are going, I may just pick up another hobby. Because I'm 43 years old, and do not have the patience nor the time to waste on not being happy. Life is already hard as it is. But it's way harder without a hobby you enjoy, to balance it. PS: You've earned a subscriber.
@80sMadeConsumer28 күн бұрын
I really think that’s what’s missing and most people don’t even consider this a hobby. It clearly is just by definition alone. Going to pic out your movies was ritual and part of the fun, a thrill of the hunt if you will. You bring up an excellent point going to Walmart or any store for some items and grabbing a movie was always a fun treat. It’s the only reason I started grocery shopping at Walmart haha. I’m also an 80s kid and can’t stand to wait for things, probably why I order and preorder so much so there is a constant turn over of packages. 1 major change that has helped me with not getting movies in stores was starting to look for movies at thrift stores and used book stores. I’ve found hundreds of great movies for super cheap things that were never a day one but a great addition. Only thing is check your discs I only take home the perfect ones and the few times I forgot to check no disc inside. Hope you don’t quit but breaks are good sometimes, when I find my self getting board I turn to other things that are still movie related like original movie posters I have a nice stack all found on eBay for cheap some need repairs but super fun to look for. I started getting some of my favorite movie light box Mylar signs from the theaters. Go to eBay type 25x5 movie Mylar and go nuts cheaper than a 4k and you can get a light box for them.

The reason i like the slipcovers......i had approx 4000 discs that was beginning to take up to much space in my home. I reduced most of the discs (except steelbooks and favorite boxsets) to plastic sleeves with jewel art and stored alphabetically in media sized boxes that hold between 250 to 300 maybe discs. And i use the slipcovers, pressed flat with the title on top, filed in the boxes that act as index cards for my collection. And everything has been digitized to a Home Media Server (so the discs are mainly backups now). As far as steelbooks and boxsets, i put them in one media tower (that can hold 1000 discs). And thats it. My collecting has pretty much slowed down (now with streaming) unless its an absolute favorite movie (and ive pretty much got those).
@80sMadeConsumer22 күн бұрын
300 is a respectable manageable number, if i reduced my collection to my core favorites movies I couldn't live with out, I bet it would be about that. I still have films on VHS and DVD that i just don't feel the need to upgrade and more than likely I have them because they were cheaper than renting digitally. The slip cover file system is smart I like that, but for now I really do enjoy having a library to go to and pick something off the shelf. Very reminiscent of going to the video store. I have nothing against digital we tried it. Found that it's great for the tv shows and more of the kid/holiday movies, other than that it was starting to feel like netflix, and we were spending more time watching old favorites just to hurry up and pick something. I don't think I'll ever ditch the ritual of scanning the shelves to find something in that moment. I can appreciate slowing down I have close to 3000 movies and running out of room (unless I get rid of my VHS) now it's more about upgrading to the best format and premium boutique editions. I still add many titles but as I do, twice a year I go through what I didn't watch within a year and watch it. If its not worth keeping I trade them in to the used book store.

As frustrating as Amazon and big box store deliveries are today, this is sadly nothing new. Coming from a LE/SE video game scene from years past, it was about a 50/50 chance your $100-200 LE game would come in a box without any padding and corners mashed, or worse yet, no box and just the shipping label taped to the actual game itself, now smashed in and items crushed on the inside. Without physical retail stores carry these items it's only going to get worse moving foward.

Yeah, Amazon is pretty ass for buying physical media as they often come damaged. I only order if I don't care about the condition or the price is too good to pass on. I remember the first purchase I ever made was a book since I had mandatory reading time in my English class. I bought the hardcover and it came all damaged. I would have complained and tried to get a partial refund or return, but I needed to have something to read so I kept it. I honestly should have just gone to the library and grabbed anything to read, and returned the book to get my money back. Thankfully I enjoyed the book, but it would be nice to have the book I enjoyed in good condition. Also preordered The First Slam Dunk on Amazon and the corners of the slipcover were damaged. Thankfully it wasn't a lot but it was annoying. A few weeks later I saw it for the same price at Target and the copies they had were minty fresh.

I had a similar issue a few years back I was trying to get all the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle hardcover collected editions of the original comic books. I have 3 out of the 6 books now all sold out and the very expensive on eBay. The copies I do have came damaged so many times it was incredibly frustrating. That is the biggest problem looks like eventually everything will be online, but in the meantime fomo gets you and there are plenty of undamaged copies in stores. Don’t preorder and for me always sold out. Still need to get Conan the Destroyer 4k all the premium editions are on eBay now.

This makes me think of my own experiences with ordering a movie through Amazon. I have had to cancel orders because of huge delays before being shipped, ordered 4K's expecting to get everything promised to find out the digital code had been removed, or just getting damaged or even loose disks inside the case. At least when I go to a local spot here in the town I live in, they at least know, and they have the economic sense to handle their merchandise, better than this conglomerate does.
@80sMadeConsumerАй бұрын
The idea of connivence is more trouble than it’s worth. I would give anything to have a dedicated mom and pop movie store like the record stores. Man that’s a new one never had the code swiped. I hardly use them maybe vacation time, but that’s not the point! That sucks!
@anthonymerchant2597Ай бұрын
@80sMadeConsumer Yep I specifically ordered The Thing on 4K just to find they removed the code. I didn't have a 4K player at that time but I have a 4K Roku that I still watched 4K films on.
@anthonymerchant2597Ай бұрын
@80sMadeConsumer Also having digital codes comes in handy so someone like my partner can always access those films too. I have about 61 titles that are digital, mostly from coming with the physical copies. I still prefer my physical ones but it's nice to have them accessible at anytime.

I've pretty much dropped ordering from Amazon due to their poor packaging. Orbit is my go to now. End up paying a bit more, but they actually take care of your stuff. I might take a chance on the Capra set from Amazon because its about $70 cheaper, and I can't ignore that. But I half expect to end up returning it due to damage and end up going with Orbit anyway. I bought the Flintstones complete series blu ray from Amazon in 2 different sales, and never was able to actually get a copy in hand that didn't have the case all banged up from shipping, since they pretty much ship in a plastic bag. And that's not a rare occurrence from them.
@80sMadeConsumerАй бұрын
It is the dilemma for sure! I would love to go else where but sometimes the savings is worth it. The savings alone has added more titles each year. The funny thing is I think that Capra set could easily get damaged, but I think that’ll be the one thing that doesn’t all year 😂

I'd be a little pissed off if the slip cover was marred up, I'm not much of a slip cover guy either unless it's a special edition with fancy/different art. For example I have a The Dark Knight Rised on BluRay+DVD that has a 3d holographic art on the front (so I kept the slipcover). However I usually just throw away slipcovers if they are just duplicate artwork of what's on the case, because slipcovers get damaged far easier than the case. However if the slipcover is damaged when I receive it, it means the shipper didn't take care of my disk, and that pisses me off even if I'm just gonna throw the slipcover away.

They did this to me twice. Fking Amazon. In my case both times the description stated NEW. When I ordered Boy kills world on 4k, the item I received was clearly used. So I took pictures and posted a review, Amazon decided they didn't like my review so they didn't approved, worst part i paid full price for what I thought it was a new 4k movie it was roughly $38 so I just returned it and got a refund. The second time it's was Cloverfield paradox, some thing, but that time I decide to keep it since I only paid $6 for it. I used to get my movies from Best Buy. I wish they would still sell movies

Look big box stores no longer sell movies because the demand isn’t there anymore because digital media and streaming like Netflix, max, peacock and Disney+ and so on has taken over so why would the average person buy a movie when it will most likely end up in streaming
@gabrielspiropol9418Ай бұрын
Even the avg person can see the difference between a streamed 4K movie and watching the same movie on a disc with a good player. The data streams and bandwidth cannot compete with the amount of data stored on physical media. Maybe when the technology improves in time, there might be some competition to look at. I’ve seen the pixelization, stair stepping, blacks not being rendered properly…. But owning a disc, that can’t be taken from you. Streaming libraries can be altered or deleted at any time, if you bought a movie and saved online, there’s no guarantee it will always be there, but owning the disc, Yeah baby, anytime any where and always perfect ! 😁👍
@80sMadeConsumerАй бұрын
I understand that’s what is being said, but they brought back vinyl and made room on store shelf’s. If you crunch the numbers dvd out sells vinyl by a lot, maybe not like they did at the peak. I think it’s more to do with financial interests in streaming more than people just aren’t buying them. So many movies are being put out is becoming hard to keep up.
@BLEED.THEBLUEАй бұрын
The thing is there isn’t enough people supporting physical media anymore because if there was big box office stores wouldn’t have removed them from its stores and those are facts. Stores aren’t going to remove product that sells and since the demand for physical media has dropped significantly in the last few years and continues to drop well we all remember what happened to blockbuster video right and how a small company like Netflix took them out 😂😂😂😂 digital media is taking over
@80sMadeConsumerАй бұрын
@ believe what you will man, less people buy vinyl records than DVDs there is zero reason to have them in stores. Either way this wasn’t my point the video was my frustration on Amazon and late preorders and damaged goods.
@frommatorav1Ай бұрын
@@BLEED.THEBLUE It's kind of a self fulfilling prophecy. If you stock less physical media, or no physical media, less units will be sold. As for vinyl, they're charging the shit out of that stuff, so it probably has higher margins. It's also too big to steal easily, which is another concern with retail stores.
