Listening to Weyes blood feels like reading a classic novel. Most other music feels like a cheap paperback. I meant what I said
@Acoustic-Rabbit-Hole Жыл бұрын
I had to mention something on the subject of fiction. I got my degree in English Literature, and we did read "Wise Blood" from Southern writer, Flannery O'Connor. I can't help but think that Weyes Blood was thinking about this writer's short-stories during the making of this film. Flannery kept the irony, but stripped away any sentiment. No matter how soft or smooth, it was always raw. Maybe there is a parallel between Flannery O'connor's writing and Weyes Blood's music.

Let's be true for a change Do you need someone? Do you need my love? Need my love [Verse 2] Tired of feeling so bad Giving away everything Gonna learn to take the pain I know that your love stings Passion is the only thing Passion must mean everything I felt your body scream to be set free From the pain of what's gone I'll move you along [Chorus] Do you need me the way I need you? Let's be true for a change Do you need someone? Do you need my love? Need my love [Outro] Everyone who knows me Knows I'm crazy for loving you, baby Do you need me like I need you? Closer to Ringo if you ask me. This has a minimalist drum pattern with a lot of fills. That's a very 60s and 70s style of drumming and so you're onto something with Michael Giles. But Giles was a more sophisticated drummer. The drum tone especially is very 60s. I've heard a lot of Beatles influence, especially George Harrison, in Weyes Blood's work so it doesn't surprise me that this drummer sounds a lot like Ringo. Check out Strawberry Fields Forever for an idea of what I'm getting at.
I watched this video a while ago and thought 'Okay, but kinda weird.' Didn't think much more about it until it popped up on my feed again today. After re-watching this video, I spent the rest of the morning listening to her music. Not as keen on her earlier work, but her 'more mature work' is breathtaking. Just one question: why doesn't the bear get a credit? 😒

NECESITAS MI AMOR?
