The thing I've always found interesting about the Cardassian/Dominion alliance is that Gul Dukat put it together, but the Cardassians didn't really understand what the endgame would be: The Dominion has no allies, just different kinds of slaves. The Cardassians would either be forced into servitude or they'd be destroyed. Dumar discovering that this transition was already well underway right under everyone's noses is what led to his betrayal of the Founders and ultimately the creation of the Cardassian rebellion.

It honestly came *that close* to being successful until the Prophets intervened on Sisko's behalf and disappeared the Jem Hadar fleet. Gul Dukat was *thisclose* to looking like a genius. Hence, why he had a personal vendetta against the Emissary. But yeah, it wouldn't have ended well for Cardassia in the long run either way.

It's a pity they killer Damar off, as it would have been interesting to see him lead a new free Cardassia - especially as he would have pushed hard for Federation membership and Bajoran reproachmeant. But then if they had continued the story afterwards in another season or different show, then it kind of removes Cardassia as a problem. Damar apologizes to the Bajorans for the occupation on behalf of all Cardassia, and aligns to the Federation as fast as possible. Meanwhile Martok is pushing for closer integration of the Klingon Empire and the Federation, as he genuinely likes _and understands_ Humans (the rest of the Federation is apparently irrelevant) and seems to get Dax's assessment of the Klingon Empires issues. So by the time JJ Abrams decides to destroy the Romulans, the Federation includes a rebuilt Cardassia (at peace with Bajor) and is best buddies with the Klingons. Star Trek always needs to have the Klingons being troublesome Allies/Adversaries in a fiery relationship. And Cardassians just make Starfleet too pragmatic. Could you imagine how much easier a time Voyager would have had of it if Garak and Nog (or even Quark) were in the crew?

They wouldn't have lost if they'd still had access to the Gamma Quadrant forces. Then the Cardies would've actually been wiped out.
@_Muzolf3 жыл бұрын
The main reason was that they were just blatantly malicious and ruthless. They antagonized everyone. Had their Gama Quadrant forces arrived and had the war go differently, more then likely they would still been backstabbed by the Romulans (Who likely did not fully buy into Garaks and Siskos little ploy, but even if they did, nobody commits to a full on war due to a single incident, if they were not planning to already.) Realistically if they had pushed deep into federation territory, they would have faced an increasingly hostile alpha quadrant. The Breen might have reevaluated on who's side they enter the war if the Dominion is too threatening and keeps acting as arrogant as they did. The Tholians would have absolutely not tolerated the Dominions habit of violating the space of whoever they want, and there were a myriad of smaller powers who might not have entered the war openly, but would be rather paranoid about a new superpower lead by shapeshifters, and would have likely done everything to at least covertly undermine the Dominion gaining a larger foothold.

@@_Muzolf yea, there's many other races and empires in the alpha quadrant. All of the cardassians have learned from their mistakes of allying with the dominion and the breen, if it wasn't for Damar, his speeches, his revolutionary actions.. they would likely be one of the most hated alpha quadrant species (if not still already, being equivalent references to world history, and the holocaust; enslaving entire species for labor and resources since what we know of TNG and Bajor on DS9..), Damar and his actions has changed Cardassians forever, but I agree.. if Damar had still lived, he would change how things work /immediately/ and change the face of Cardassia.. after deep space nine, I am really unsure -- but everyone has learned from this puppeteer-ing dominion war.

@@skynetprime82 Especially after tain died, the obsidian order's wrath with it.. I believe that is certain, everyone learned from this dominion war, directly and indirectly.. In garak's case that is indirectly (the most), because his father and leader of obsidian order was lead into an elaborate trap to destroy the founder homeworld, and costed his life -- unlike Damar, directly.. who the dominion had his parents killed when they weren't a part of the war. I believe that they changed as a race, especially with new leadership and proper understanding of the events that had occurred in the Dominion War.

Something I'm curious about: when they made the new Weyoun, do they have the ability to implant the memories of the previous one, or does he need to be debriefed once he comes out of the cloning vat (or however they do it)?
@jankotouc91243 жыл бұрын
It was never officially established AFAIK, but since Weyouns talk about their predecessors as about a different person, they aren't the same person in a new body (so not like the Cylons). Also in one episode the Founders orders some Vorta scientists executed and "activate their clones to bring in a new perspective", which would make no sense if it was the same person in a different body. So maybe they have some fast debriefing methods, some fast-learning device etc.
@HayBea3 жыл бұрын
@@jankotouc9124 Thanks - was mostly wondering because although each seem to have at least slightly different attitudes from their predecessors, they also seem to know at least part of the "back story" of their previous incarnations. Had forgotten about the Vorta scientists...

@@HayBea the eu states that the clones have memories downloaded to be put into a new clone. obviously this doesn't cover all of the memories just the ones that were put into storage. the clones are never going to be perfect duplicates since the cloning process always has some very slight derivation. people don't realize that for instance a clone of a human being wouldn't have the same fingerprints and some other aspects since those are formed in the womb by the chemical processes that occur there. since those wouldn't be able to be replicated a clone wouldn't have the same fingerprints. identical twins don't have identical fingerprints or retinal patterns. very close mind you hence depending upon how much of a print is left there could either be a noticeable way to tell the twins apart or it wouldn't be possible.
