Yes.. thank you Shannon! May you RIP. Sad that she died however if it were not for her this may have gone on longer with so many more victims... also her 911 call needs further examination if other suspects involved. It was a very long call with a lot of information that at that time wasn't taken seriously enough. My thoughts are with her family at this time - Shannon was as extremely brave girl who is owed so much credit for making that call in a line of work where that often doesn't happen.

RIP to all lost Gilbert family- first Shannon drowning naked in the brush - as was deduced by scpd medical coroner/examiner- Peter C. Hackett- look it up- she is not considered a victim/ she is considered a drowned heroin addict who got lost in the beach grass naked and slowly drowned in shallow water

Also her mother was decapitated by her daughter w special needs - Shannon’s sister whom spent a long time w scpd and also was a mentally ill person who had spent so many hours with police that soon thereafter her mother’s murder seemed suspicious

@@Beefer-e4j Yes, it can be hard to accept or understand such evil deeds and your question is a valid one. I'm just a Christian layperson, not a theologian. But simply, people were given free will and can choose to do good or evil deeds in this earthly life. Apparently God did not want puppets. God does not always restrain free will (I believe at times He likely does), but I believe He helps and strengthens us in dealing with the evil deeds of others. Someday everything will be made right but not necessarily on this earth. Our earthly lives are not even an eye-blink compared with eternity. Therefore keep the faith. These are my beliefs and basically the beliefs of millions or billions of others. And you did ask. My heart goes out to these victims' loved ones and I too pray that earthly justice will now be served and that they will find strength, comfort, and peace. I can't even imagine what they've faced so far.

@pattymcnamara3090 I think there was alot of negative news that the law enforcement wasn't doing enough on this case. They can't have news conferences early in an investigation. Just because they can't talk about the case, it doesn't mean no one is working on it. Hence this lengthy news conference to let the public know all that has happened over the years. So many different members of law enforcement came together and worked long and hard to bring justice for the victims and their families. I commend them all for their dedication, long hours they put in and relentless efforts. New Yorkers should be proud of them all.
@phillipstroll7385

No. It's the opposite actually. When a prosecutor is confident of the evidence they keep their mouth shut. Only when they are pushing nonsense do they attempt to influence a potential jury pool and the public with the press. For example: his dna being found on a victim is irrelevant. They are ladies of the night. Several people's dna was found on the bodies. He is an admitted user of ladies of the night. This isn't evidence. Not is using burner phones evidence. Most men using this type of service do go to great means to hide it from their wives. They zeroed in on Rex because someone he's related to submitted dna to 123 & me. There is NOT a group of serial killers using the same dumping ground. The same means of death. The same dumping system of camo colored burlap. Etc, and we know for a fact the killer had to be a doctor with attachments to law enforcement. Why? Negate Jane doe #3 and baby Jane doe are mother and daughter. There is only one person who could deliver the child, remove all placenta and get the mother to continue her work without her going to the police. There is no way in hell I would keep my mouth shut while you kept my child and forced me to work that life. No way in hell. Unless you had all the power. Especially after you've killed my child. The killer has to be a doctor or a police officer with medical knowledge and access to heroine that no one would notice missing.

Yikes, Walt might want to think about what he says before he speaks next time. Aside from the fact that the statement that sex workers “aren’t missed” only serves to perpetuate the mindset that people of certain job or income level are less worthy, you need to consider the fact that the family members of these women and one person who’s gender is still unknown are going to watch media like this and will hear the things you say, and surely “missed” their loved ones. Nor does one’s childhood or circumstance in upbringing determine addiction issues or job choice. And yes, sex work is a job, and it’s a far older one than “investigative journalism” or KZbinr. JB at least has the tact and humility to be careful about how he speaks about victims. They are someone’s children just like y’all are.

I agree with you! Walt needs to be reprimanded for contributing to stigma and dehumanizing victims. On a positive note, I was impressed by how far the DA and police had progressed in terms of being nonjudgmental and putting the family members of victims literally up front. It sends the right message that these women were humans and have loved ones like anyone else. It was also heart-warming to see the police chief hug each family before speaking. I grew up in the UK and was a teenager when the Yorkshire Ripper was bludgeoning women to death. The police made multiple screw ups in that case and didn't really care for a while because most victims were sex-workers. The cops made horrid, insensitive statements. One victim was a young teenage girl and the police discounted her case for a while because she wasn't a sex worker! Women couldn't win either way! Today is progress.

It's also older than a biochemist and a brain surgeon. I agree with most of what you said (strongly disagree that upbringing can't contribute to higher chance of drug abuse which increases chance of addiction) but agree that they are victims and people and deserve our compassion just as much as anyone but I always thought the "older profession" argument meant very little to push that point across to people who think they are disposable and undeserving of our compassion. I also think fewer get into the profession purely out of "choice" than otherwise. Many are roped in on drugs and pressured or forced to do it and can't get out of the cycle, or trafficked in as kids which is only ramping up the last couple years for obvious reasons. Most people have that negative "disposable" mindset due to the illegal nature of the work, not because they don't think it can ever be considered a "job". If they made it legal but in regulated businesses it would probably cut way down on the other crime associated around prostitution, but I always like to err on the side of freedom so maybe I am biased.

As a victim of violent crime via the homicide of my brother in 1996...though time helps you to accept and to adapt, there is no such thing as "closure". That void never heals, that hole never closes. It's never filled, no matter how many grandkids you have or how many decades pass. You just learn to live on "through" it. It is a part of you now. 10+yrs is not necessarily a long time to solve a case like this. It depends on the tech available, the degradation of evidence, the willingness of witnesses to speak up...a multitude of issues. Even coping with different jurisdiction poses huge problems. I doubt they could have captured any suspect had they not all worked together. My brother's homicide had witnesses...both in the perpetrators vehicle, as well as from a nearby store. No one spoke up. It was only once the brother of a witness in the vehicle, the perpetrator's friend, contacted my mom 4 yrs later, that we had a path to follow. And, it still took another 4yrs, 8yrs total, & a lot of relentless investigative work by my mom & myself, including pressure on the detectives, that the guy was caught & prosecuted. I hope justice is served for these families, and the victims yet to be identified. They, & their families, may never get justice.💔

Serial killers can be pillars of the community and charming. That was true of John Wayne Gacy. BTK was the pastor of his church. If they all looked like Hollywood stereotypes we could catch them in a minute. Hiding in plain sight is the speciality of serial killers. What's making it harder for them to continue this is the evolution of forensic technology as well as DNA methodologies. Regarding your comments "a decent man" and "what a shame," you have based them on mistaken ASSUMPTIONS. When you jump to conclusions without evidence, you will likely reach the wrong answer. It reminds me of people calling Donald Trump "a good businessman." They assume because of his bluster that he must have a huge fortune and many successful businesses. He had neither but he's a good con artist. Serial killers are often master manipulators as well. As they say "don't judge a book by its cover."

These things should never be a congratulatory marathon for law enforcement for “putting aside their egos and working together” HELLO THAT IS THE BARE MINIMUM, your literal jobs, not you doing us all a solid. Now I thank them for their work, but this press conference should solely be a voice for the victims and the victims families. This should NOT be about police doing their jobs, that’s what we pay them for folks. To the families, my heart breaks over and over for you, may this be the beginning of some answers for you all.

I think the Chevrolet Avalanche is a very important part of this story. I am a big guy over 6'2 and i am very uncomfortable driving small cars. The Fact that he matches a description by eye witnesses that would tie him to one of the victims, and he drove the same full size pickup at the times of the murder are pretty concrete in terms of evidence. Of course you can not only use this, but its not like the suspect drove a Toyota Yaris and then this guy is a big 6'4 dude who somewhat fits the description.

It blows my mind to see comments of people who hadn't even heard of LISK before they caught him. If you would have asked me last week, what cases I hoped they would solve, this would have been number one, followed by the Springfield Three, that bowling alley massacre, that yogurt shop massacre, Maura Murray, Brianna Maitland, and Brandon Lawson cases, just off the top of my head. I've known about LISK since I first saw the episode of "Disappeared" about Shannan Gilbert when it first aired, and I watched "The Killing Season" a few times. It would be cool if they could catch the Chillicothe serial killer too; that's much closer to a hometown case for me. I think there has been some recent disappearances in Middletown, too. I wonder if the Chillicothe one moved to Middletown. I wonder if there really was only one killer in this case, because I remember in "The Killing Season" that they theorized there might be multiple. It looks like they've charged him with the ones where burlap was used; I wonder if they will charge him for the other ones too.

The fact that they wanted to continue in silence, but they made up their mind after all the evidence they had already collected that he was such an imminent threat to the public they had to take him off the streets. That's a terrifying though. Not that naive to think a serial killer suddenly quit, unless the person is dead. But it still sent shivers down my spine. And that he looked up relatives, locations, etc. It's sickening. What a solid task force. An important lesson to learn - drop the ego and work as a team. Wink wink to other cold case investigators. Peace to all the victims. On another note. His family is victims too. Save the pitchforks. Listening to interviews with BTK's daughter is heartbreaking.

I have never been anything other than a housewife and grocery store worker. But, I do not like the way that they bring up the profession of the girls. They say they are not passing judgement. But, there are other situations where people put themselves in danger. Every time you enter a Lyft, every time you show a house and are alone with someone you don't know, going on public transportation after midnight because you work the late shift, entering an unfamiliar household you have been hired to clean, ect. People in these situations get murdered too, but their situation is brought up in passing, when they are murdered. I understand that people do not have any respect for people that do sex work, but I just think that as much time should be devoted to their profession, as to others that were also murdered that were not sex workers. Because, I don't care what you do for a living, if you were not victimizing other people, then you did not deserve to be murdered.
