WFUM-TV 28 (Flint, MI) Sign-Off and Sign-On from Summer 1989

A twelve-o'clock midnight sign-off of the former TV station of the University of Michigan-Flint, WFUM, which was recently acquired by Central Michigan University in early 2010. It now operates as WCMZ as part of the CMU Public Television network.
The video commences with the final moments of the PBS series Mystery, followed by the PBS ID logo. Immediately after comes the WFUM sign-off announcement, accompanied by somber music and a still photo of a TV transmitting tower. The sign-on portion starts off with two-and-a-half minutes of color bars and tone. Then comes the WFUM sign-on, which features video of downtown Flint as well as business, industrial and recreational goings-on within the city. Following this is the opening minute of the WFUM's What's Up, a community calendar and news program.
Both the sign-off and sign-on makes reference to a line from the Northwest Ordinance of 1787, which reads, "Religion, morality, and knowledge, being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged."

Ah yeah majestic. I love this sign off especially the very beginning. The sky , the music , the narrator and the blinking light with the trees swaying in the evening breeze. Lovely

Thank you SignOffsGuy ! This was one of my favorite tv sign off/sign on videos. I would stay up late at night to watch this and still be awake to watch the sign on. Good times during those lonely nights.

Excellent sign on. WFUM's producers did a great job with this one. The inspiring music brings happiness and signals a good beginning to the day. Nice views of Flint and the narrator also compliments this brilliant sign on. Ending with the awesome TV28 logo.

Kinda sad Flint lost the station at all. I recall one night when I could pick up WFUM and saw a sign-off like this!

I’m rather surprised to see that Flint used to be in the 313 area code. I know the 810 area code came into existence in 1993, but I would have thought that Flint would have been in the 517 before that. I guess Flint was one of the northernmost places in the 313 at the time.

We used to be 616 in SW MI

Clio Michigan was the furthest north 313 area code. At the Saginaw County line [Birch Run] began the 517 area code. I still remember my home numbers in the 70s and early 80s being 313

Wikipedia now says that WCMZ-TV will shut down April 14 of this year, though this has been vaguely attributed to "WCMU staff."
