Exactly right. Hollywood is becoming a warning label to people who like quality entertainment. It was "medium to good" mass production, that turned into "bad to medium", and will turn into "business closed for incompetence". I am re-watching the classics in my movie collection. Plus shows like "Farscape" and "Misfits". South Park and "sunny in Philadelphia" are still brilliant, produced by the creators themselves. Loki Season 1 was surprisingly good.

I think that will be the result of this. Before, independent cinema lacked the funds but more recently, it's been Hollywood that is failing. The thing that kept mainstream actors and directors with the major studios, the cash, is being more widely distributed and more opportunities for small studios will come available. Plus, writers may start going to alternate studios to try to get their product made. I also don't understand how these DEI initiatives are anything other than being racist, sexist, or any other -ists here. These initiatives are basically stating that people of certain demographics cannot compete in a fair playing field and the deck needs to be stacked in favor of those demographics, regardless of talent or capability. I realize that Hollywood has had issues in the past, but there has to be a better way than this. Promoting talented directors and writers, talent and skill development classes and mentoring models, and potentially profit distribution models that reward viewership over production. I have no issues with having a talented diverse writers room, but talent needs to be rewarded rather than just diversity. These initiatives are going to ruin the films, as shows and movies that no one wants won't bring in money and a pattern of bad products will eventually ruin all future products. This woke stuff will likely result in its eventual destruction, as studios that are now tightening their belts won't go on a limb to push anything if they want to stay in business.

@@dennisrounds1996 Right. The Expanse books are very good material. Which was not butchered going to the screen. Like in "Alien" , it is not about a woman who is the big star of the movie. What happened to not discriminating on the basis of race, creed or color? Throw in sex, sexual orientation and sexual preference these days and those are exactly the questions you SHOULDN'T ask someone before hiring them. Or giving them a loan, or allowing them to rent your apartment or buy your house or granting them admission to your school. The only questions you should be ALLOWED to ask are relevant ones: Do you have the income to make the loan or rent payments, what were your grades in your last school, have you written anything I'd have read before? Didn't creative types used to have to provide a portfolio showing their skill? Photographers and artists would carry around samples of their work so people could see what level of ability they were hiring. Writers could show samples of what they've written. Actors would list things they've been in and have clippings of their reviews. Hire based on ABILITY, not on meeting a diversity quota! The problem with "the patriarchy" was that it discriminated against those who weren't straight, white males. Society as a whole now realizes that's bad and shouldn't be done, but you don't fight past bigotry by changing the TARGET of the bigotry, you fight it by NOT BEING BIGOTED. Otherwise you're not saying "It was bad those people in the past were discriminating," you're saying "It was bad they were discriminating against us." Changing the target of discrimination doesn't end discrimination it just changes who stands to gain from it.

This is some serious fascistic mania. Would love to see what an expert in constitutional law has to say about this awful survey. The survey is extremely clear in it's "goals", seeing as all the answers that would be considered "normal" (being hetero, white/European, religious affiliation, etc etc) are singled-out in the top corner of the check-boxes, whereas all the "diverse" options are spread out across the survey, like a cornucopia of DEI madness. I wonder why they singled out all the "non-diverse" options.... its eerily reminiscent to how the nazi party found journalists and others who spoke out against them in the 30s and 40s. Honestly pretty scary stuff. It's not so much a cultural-shift as it is full-on cultural division, from the top down. I used to work for one of the major credit bureaus in the US and once about 2 years ago when the DEI crap really started to kick off, I told my (female) manager that we found the perfect candidate for a job we were hiring for, and her immediate response was "I hope it's not a white male" I would have hope the response to be "is it the best candidate?" But no, checking boxes is more important now than actually being good at the job

@roarbertbearatheon8565 It's not just indie films. A lot of successful stuff comes from outside Hollywood. Godzilla minus one, Squid Game, lots of stuff. Even HBO gets some content made in Europe where the WGA isn't a thing. Like House of the Dragon. Netflix does the same. That's beside the point. You misunderstood the comment. I didn't say for writers to drop major studios, I said that major studios should stop hiring shitty writers, and if the WGA is getting in the way get writers not in the WGA, whether they are independent or outside of the USA. Hollywood keeps releasing bombs or content nobody wants. At some point, it's going to break them. You just have to look at Disney, WB, Paramount, etc. To see that happening.

@@KarateWerewolf Nobkdy saw godzilla. Most people don’t watch foreign movies. If your counter point to nobody watching films ourside of big studios are foreign films nobody watches, then I don’t know what to tell you. The WGA is film and television for 95% of people, what they do affects the majority of film goers. Godzilla isn’t even a drop in the bucket conpared to that
@KarateWerewolf10 ай бұрын
@roarbertbearatheon8565 you missed the part of my reply about content being developed elsewhere and put on major streamers. House of the Dragon and One Piece live action are 2 random examples. My point is that it can be worked around easily if they wanted to. And now they have more of a reason to do so. Alternatively, they could also just have a single writer. It's permissible under WGA guidelines. They aren't forced to have a writers room.

Was thinking the same. Right or wrong, not everyone wants to be a mentor. Some of these older writers may have scratched and clawed their way up and may not wish to (overtly) mentor anyone. 🙂

The real problem with DEI is that when mediocre performers are promoted to positions of power on the basis of identity politics, they feel threatened by qualified employees and push those employees out while promoting other mediocre employees who do not threaten their position. As a result, the entire organization becomes less capable, and those who are talented and capable are leaned upon and overworked and rarely acknowledged.
@evanflynn468010 ай бұрын
Entertainment is becoming woke televangelism. Considering how bottom line obsessed all the corporate types are, I'm astonished that things could get this bad. Also considering the streaming money requiring constant new content, I'm also surprised that all the new projects would have opened the floor to writers who hadn't been in the industry as long to get their chances. Just don't put the inexperienced person in charge of hundred million dollar projects. Do heaps of thirty to fifty million dollar budget movies, if one of the newer writers on the team have a cool idea, let them be credited with lead writer for the episode, so they can put it on their resume. Experience teaches everything important, so why are they sidelining all the most experienced people? Yes, encourage mentoring of new talent. Don't put the new talent in charge and act surprised when it sucks.

Have you noticed that outside of a few major metropolitan areas most people aren't woke, yet most big companies are pushing these messages and practices the hardest. What's happening isn't some grassroots shift in culture like the 60's, all this stuff is a top down movement where the people in charge want this. What's the end goal I don't know but it definitely doesn't seem to be real equality, profitability or prosperity. Edit: the issues I pointed out are most visible in the entertainment industry, but these problems have spread to education and industry across the board in the western world.

There is a reason this is only happening in the West and in white countries. It is an anti-white movement as simple as that. Most white people are blissfully racially unaware. Trouble is, they are being targetted by people who are solely motivated by race and who are utterly dedicated to their goals which, despite what they say about being about fairness and tolerance and representation etc, is actually quite the opposite - it is about punishing and ending white people. They WANT to bring them down and if that means ending Millennia of civilisation that gave these people freedom, liberty and the free speech to do what they are now doing, they don't care. People need to wake up, and quickly.

Great analysis. Regarding Echo, cannot help but think of the tv show The Boys, season 2 episode 1 “The Big Ride” where the super called Blindspot was auditioning to fill a vacant slot within The Seven. Homelander appeared interested for a brief moment but then smashed Blindspot’s ears thus rendering him completely pointless. Homelander turned to Ashley and derisively said, “without his hearing, he is just another useless fucking blind guy". Put Echo in a dark warehouse, break her hands, throw a smoke screen, poke out her eyes etc., and she just becomes a doorstop.

Is there another city where independent filmmakers can come together and start a new, non-woke Hollywood?

They could be setting up concentration camps for white people and probably half of them would be saying it was all a "far right conspiracy theory" because they didn't want to be called "racist." With so many morons and cowards around, such a thing cannot be set up. However, even these cattle know what they don't like and don't want to watch, so we may still see the end of those comapnies that have been infected by Woke..... eventually.

Pretty much. Outside of cities, a lot of this behavior is still abnormal and would get you fired or isolated. The only reason it festers in cities is because it's become part of the culture, and it's forced from the top. Look at names like Martine Rothblatt. It's just socially awkward, vaguely autistic rich people who think they're so logical that they need to educate the everyman and save the world.
