I've never done WGI or DCI, but I've done marching band at a college level and I can say that if we messed up, we deserved the criticism. I don't care how much work you put into something; if you mess up, you deserve what's coming to you. Now, people don't have to be dicks about it, but they have every right to criticize.

I hate when people call out dirt as much as the next guy, but the difficulty of the music shouldn't be a factor at all in the cleanliness in a world-class line. These are some of the best percussionists in the world, and they shouldn't dirt THAT hard, no matter how difficult the music. Maybe it was a bad rep, but either way, music difficulty shouldn't matter.

That would be assuming that getting better is a constant linear growth. They have lives to live, many factors play into that. There's enough outside factors to say that not every single rep is going to be better than the last. But, the one thing I can't hold much sympathy for is when a lick -never- even sees a clean rep. I've only heard them playing in the lot at championships so I don't know if it got much cleaner by the end of the season. I'd have to listen to the lot video again.

I don't like calling out dirt in comments, but sometimes it's just like you hear it and you flinch or something Like am I the only one who sometimes just flinches during a drumline performance when dirty rolls happen? I don't even do it intentionally :x

what the hell happened to pulse?
@drumboy131311 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I do that too. But it's so unnecessary to call it out, whether it be in KZbin comments, or actually there at the performance. Like, we all heard it, the performers heard it and are probably upset about it, there's no need to just be like, "LOL DIRT DID YOU GUYS HEAR THAT DIRT MAN"

his point is invalid because he inherently did exactly what shouldn't be said here, aka devalue the very clear talent of these players. You can comment on their playing with a knowing of what's happening, but take it with a grain of salt. This is extremely advanced, took months of work and it's basically impossible to avoid making mistakes eventually anyways. This run is one of -hundreds-.The goal is perfection and we don't need to ostracize them as though they don't know that.
@thisistides9711 жыл бұрын
Yeah this is specifically why people call out dirt and to add to your point at this point they've played it until their brains are screaming herta split I don't like calling dirt but it's not entirely unjustified when you get down to it either

@thisistides9711 жыл бұрын
Hm. I don't disagree with you, though. I'm just saying that if criticism is necessary, one should be fully aware of the context. And for that matter respectful, because that shit isn't easy. It is likely that they know they need to clean some shit up, and it's not as though it's wrong to point it out, but saying it as though these players are unaware is problematic.
@thisistides9711 жыл бұрын

As someone who knows the members of Pulse, the Solo was horrendous, the members and even the staff knew that. It was after this point that changes were made and that solo became clean. Call it out as it was in that period of time, but I recommend watching later vids of their show to properly judge their performance during the course of this season.

@thisistides9711 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that shit's just rude, although I'm not going to say I'm innocent. Sometimes it's just easy to even get a little flared up about it! But the concept itself is a lot more judgmental than is necessary and the things they do out on the floor is still something that isn't really common in the world. Dirt does detract from enjoyment but I doubt it's worth just bashing a group of talented musicians for.

This group has amazing players in it :) The only problem was that "renegade" was beaten over my head for 5min straight, and after 1 minute of it I got the idea. So for the rest of the 4 minutes I was bored. Basically there was no plot, no story. They failed to make me care about their show. Better luck next year pulse. - sincerely, WGI fan
