Here's a special Independence Day treat - a Bozo's Circus salute to the 4th of July as aired on that day in 1978 on WGN Channel 9. Introduced by Frazier Thomas, with performers from The Diana School of Dance, (and featuring a patriotic Cooky and Bozo cameo appearance at the end!)
An amazing time-capsule! Just when you think it's over, it continues. ;-) Watch the baton-twirler boy as he misses his mark a few times, but recovers nicely.
For the keen eyed, there is also a point where a lady at the end of the first row in the audience drops a program or piece of paper or something and then can be seen using her foot to non-nonchalantly drag it back over to her. :-)
This aired on local Chicago TV on Tuesday, July 4th 1978 during the 12:00 Noon to 1pm timeframe.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,600+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

I went to the show with my dad and brother exactly 10 years earlier. The day we went, July 4, 1968, the show was not live. It was taped for future broadcast because the Cubs were playing a doubleheader that day. Oh well, that's showbiz.

This show was first aired on WPIX-TV (channel 11) in New York City in the 1960's before they moved to Chicago in the late 60's on WGN-TV (channel 9). This clip from "Bozo's Circus" was from WGN-TV, but it was never aired in New York City on WPIX-TV back in 1978, because there was no room to put this show on NYC TV, so the got "The Magic Garden" on there.

This was on WGN starting in 1961, broadcast from the North Side of Chicago. Never from New York. Sorry. It was a franchise in each market.

None of this is true. The show did not begin in NY and then move to Chicago. This post should be removed for being completely erroneous.

It's like the dance team of a school for the blind. But still, it's Bozo's Circus, so it's classic.

Imagine how much of a payoff it would been if, after about 5 minutes of this tedium, the music had abruptly switched up to Flight of the Bumblebee, and all three of the clowns and Dr. Lester Fisher had exploded from the side curtains and proceeded to lay into those star spangled dullards with hundreds of cream pies.

Whenever the band played long enough , they'd suddenly sound like punk rock rhythm . Perhaps due to some kind of music math. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYqol62epZ15o80

today, now you have Dina Bair and the 12 o'clock news, no way would a children's program fly today on WGN, besides, Dina Bair will roar like a bear! pun intended. Bozo hasn't aired on weekdays for 29 years and altogether for 22 years after it had lasted seven years on Sundays.
