First clip in montage is my uncle Larry “Butch” Biittner hitting an opening day walk off homer. Pretty damn cool. RIP uncle Butch!

Larry Biittner was great. And, very friendly. Saw him at the Cubs Convention before.

For a home run hitter, Dave Kingman did a good job bunting.

1978 would be the last year that the classic "Mr. Cub" decal since the 60s would grace the Cubs' uniforms. 1979 would introduce a meaner Mr. Cub decal to the Cubs' uniforms.

And that “Mr. Cub.” patch came out in 1962-Now it’s a walking bear cub patch engulfed in a red letter “C”

2 things: Loved Brickhouse's "WON THIS GAME", when Brickhouse got excited we all felt it. And where was the welcoming committee at home plate? No love for Bittner?

Back then they just shook hands with whoever was around them making their way to the clubhouse.

There was no DH in the national league in 1984. Was he going to play left field? Gary Matthew's was there. First base? Leon Durham was there.

I never thought I would ever see Bobby Murcer's grand slam off Steve Carlton. It was the difference. Cubs won 4-3.

One of the few times they beat Carlton. From 78 to 86, I rarely saw Cubs Beat Steve.

@@davanmani556 Nope! You're wrong! Kingman hit 3 home runs at L.A. on May 14th, 1978. His 2nd home run that day was a two-run shot with 2 outs in the top of the 9th inning tying the game as the Cubs were down to their last out and trailing 7-5. The game stayed tied at 7 until the top of the 15th inning when with 2 outs and 2 men on Kingman connected for his 3rd round tripper of the game. This one came off of the Dodgers Rick Rhoden. The Cubs won the game 10-7 in 15 innings. Kingman was 4 for 7, 3 HR & 8 RBI for the game.

Maybe it was shown later in the video package on this WGN show? It seems the video got cut off here.

These were the days before they retired any numbers, so Ron Santo's #10 was Dave Kingman and Billy Williams's #26 was Larry Biitner...

Baseball is now dead - it's antiseptic. There are no more arguments. Everything is quiet and calm, like a library.

Did Doug Harvey always have white hair? Was he born wit white hair? Why didnt they show the Kingman 3 homer game?

Kingman (28 HR's) would be the only Cub to reach double figures in long balls that year. They had a particularly tough time hitting them after the All Star break when Kingman went down for about a month with a hamstring injury. Kingman got hurt vs Giants in mid July playingon a soggy field that also featured the Giants dugout getting flooded out during a particularly intense downpour.

Ken Cummings - I thought his hamstring was the next year as well because he missed two weeks, which cost him a chance to hit 50 homers.

I hated the look of the artificial turf in the CF bleachers. Artificial turf never looked good on the field, let alone in the stands.
