Too many Younger and Older Generations are too quick to react. Gen X prefer to Chill...

I am a proud Gen Xer. I was allowed to ride my bicycle in the street on my own, and open the house door on my own, and make my own cheese sandwich. I never got onto a computer, because I didn't have one. Instead, I turned my own TV on and would watch The Wonder Years which starred Fred Savage (who in my mind, is the King of Generation X). After the wonder years, my mother and my father would come home from work and they would make me dinner, and send me to bed at 8pm. I believe as Gen Xer, it is my duty to help the young Milennial generation and the slightly younger Zoomer generation, with the difficulties that life has to offer them, and teach them how to dodge little surprises that life has to offer and how to do things on their own like I did when I was a little boy. I really do feel sorry for the younger generation for not being albe to play outside like I did when I was a boy, and watch TV all on my own like I used to do when I was a little boy. We really are a stronger generation than the younger generations. I am very proud to be a Gen Xer. Gen Xers unite!

We are a feral generation that raised ourselves. We developed creativity, responsibility and coping skills. We were literally locked out of the house all day lol. I taught my kids that their problems were theirs, they needed to handle them. When and if their problem became mine I would take care of it. They may not like the end result but my problem would be taken care of. My kids all have responsibility, respect, have good coping skills asks are kind and helpful people.

Millennial here. Love my gen X older sisters who let me sneak downstairs and watch Nightmare on Elm Street with them. I was jealous of the independence my older sisters got growing up versus how overprotective my parents were of me (because suddenly everything was “dangerous” and needed “chaperoning”) I also thing Gen Xers are better managers than boomers. Gen X managers are more no nonsense, just get me the results, chill about it. Boomers are all traditional and about the formalities and power trips.

I'm a Gen X and surrounded by Millennials. I noticed that even many older Millennials that I know have no idea about 9/11, SARS etc since they were still teenagers or children when those things happened, let alone AIDS epidemic which is why COVID 19 feels new to them.
@jonquilcat79454 жыл бұрын
I was 14 when 911 happened. I still remember it vividly, and I'm Australian. I remember SARS and swine flu too (which was really scary as many people at my work got really sick.) Then there was the ebola scare. Millenials have seen a lot. We are probably the least upset by this pandemic as we don't want to go out anyway because the future never held any hope for us 😉 A lot of the gen x who didn't boomerang into corporate nightmares after their youth are happily gaming with us during lockdown haha

What are you talking about? I’m a millennial and I was a senior in high school when 9/11 happened! How dare you tell us we don’t remember seeing smoke across Long Island sound or the panic when we couldn’t reach loved ones in nyc because all the satellites crashed. Our generation were taught one thing only to grow up and realize everything we learned was horseshit. When we graduated college into a an awful job market, needed credit cards just to eat and then got blamed for the recession. We slowly pulled ourselves up and then Covid hit and for the second time, our generation lost everything! All we want is to survive and maybe a little empathy from the other generations. You’re ignorance is truly astounding. Unreal!
@carlweeks92563 жыл бұрын
@@esl4058 Hi, if you were a senior when that happened (I was a senior when 9/11 happened as well!) Then you aren't a "True Millennial" look up "Xennials" which are mostly people born between 77 and 85 (But I personally would like to extend that to 75-87). Also, I do not consider myself a "Millennial" Beause of a good amount of "older characteristics" people my age have, VS those people born in the 90s. For example, there was no internet when we started school, No airbags or other modern features that became common in the 90s in cars in our early childhood years, Landline phones were the norm until we were at least teenagers, and quite a bit more interesting facts! Right??
@esl40583 жыл бұрын
@@carlweeks9256 I am well aware of what a xennial is. Do more research. Xennials are a sub category of older millennials. You and I are, shock, both millennials AND xennialls due to the gen x hangover we have. We can also be called generation Y if you wanna go old school. Regardless of the year, our generation was trained analog and had to adapt to digital. That's what separates us from X and Z. The widespread availability of the internet, as you noted, is the control point.

my parents are Gen X, this all seems true to me. I never knew them to be helicopter-y, but their parenting styles would sometimes "polarize" between acting very cool to coming on red-hot. I think it is an improvement on the micromanaging styles of boomers, but I'd like to see more of the middle ground between these two poles being explored 💜
