Great video, as someone who is 1 year in the program, and just about to complete C795 - I am on the normal pace to finish in 4 terms. I have IT experience, but no real security experience, other than being forced to monitor a firewall for a small business. I can say, it honestly makes sense that you were able to finish this so quickly, you already have almost all of the background needed since almost all of the reading is straight from the CISSP book. Feels a bit shitty to think you finished this in 12 days and I am taking 2 years, but hey we all learn at different paces.
@cipher1362 жыл бұрын
Nice to see you back! Man people in Reddit are silly. The whole point of WGU was to provide a place for work professionals who know their stuff get their degrees fast through a competency based program since there are many well seasoned professionals stuck with years of knowledge and competence but just don't have a degree to say "Ok here. Is that enough proof?". And that don't have time to be sitting around for 3-5 years for a degree that they know almost everything on through real life experience and just may need to fill in some gaps here and there. If you know your stuff then you'll pass fast that is what competency based means. If you are new to it then you'll have to study and take longer simple as that like the CS math stuff you took 3 weeks on. An analogy of your situation would be a Mathematician going into CS and runs into that class, he'd probably get through it in a day or 2 like you did the MS Cyber Security classes. You got years of experience and even a CISSP. I would be surprised if you DIDNT take advantage of getting it done as quick as you could. Glad to hear a lot of what is taught reflects real world stuff. I'm halfway done with my Bachelor's in Cyber Security and am gunning on that Masters afterwards. Appreciate your videos man, no way I would have given WGU a chance without your videos. Also sidenote: People get certs in a few days. If there are some people that get those in a few days or within a month of studying without breaking too much of a sweat. Does that make say a OSCP cert or a CISSP cert less valued?
@JoshMadakor2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks so much for the kind words, really appreciate it. I'm glad to hear you're working your way through the BSCS--it's really great to finally check that box. And great plan going straight into the MS. I'm really glad to hear the videos helped out and provided at least some kind of value, haha. _> Also sidenote: People get certs in a few days. If there are some people that get those in a few days or within a month of studying without breaking too much of a sweat. Does that make say a OSCP cert or a CISSP cert less valued?_ It kinda depends I guess. Certs are a little bit different because there is usually a lot of trivia involved or some specific technology where it's more difficult to pass in a short amount of time. I guess it depends on the cert. But if an NSA red teamer (for example) were to pass OSCP without studying, I wouldn't really be that surprised. Same as if a seasoned InfoSec manager managed to pass CISSP without studying. The thing with certs is, there isn't really an obvious indicator when somebody "started" studying for the cert, unlike with degrees, where people will typically list the start and end date. I kinda feel like I said a whole bunch of nothing here lol, but maybe you can see my thinking on the topic a bit! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

Also, do you even personally recommend reading thru their entire reading material they have or just straight up powering through the exams and papers, studying only applicable information? Mind you, I'm aiming for speed to complete in a certain timeframe military has granted me lol.

Thanks for the awesome video! How many tries do you get per exam?
@JoshMadakor2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I believe you get three tries per exam, then you have to start paying. I'm not sure of the cost but, proctoring is done by a 3rd party provider, so WGU has to pay. After 3 times, the student has to start absorbing the cost. (I guess this is the logic behind it!). Thanks for watching, and I hope this helps!

Hi Josh! :D I know this video is a few months old but I was wondering what were your thoughts on me obtaining this Master’s after I obtain the BS in Cloud Computing. I’m not really aiming to work in Cyber, but I am looking to supplement (& certify) my Cloud Security knowledge by going for this degree. Or should I just go for an MS in Cloud Computing instead (thinking of UMGC)? Thank you in advance for reading & responding.
@JoshMadakor2 жыл бұрын
Hey! If you're just looking for a budget Master's to supplement your cloud knowledge with some security, this is probably a good choice for that. If you don't really care about having a masters degree, I might recommend getting CISSP. It may take less time, be cheaper, and probably help your resume more than a master's will, especially in terms of getting interviews and help with HR. Just my 2c. As for the other masters, for _ME_ personally, I wouldn't bother getting a masters degree unless I can do it FAST and for relatively cheap. It's really unclear to me how much they really help careers in IT/Tech. Certain jobs/industries they matter, but not for most jobs in tech, I donno. I rambled a lot here, sorry haha. Good luck ;)
@TheAmazinRaven2 жыл бұрын
@@JoshMadakor You didn't ramble at all! You provided me with some great insight and advice. Thank you so much for responding to me and I'll certainly consider obtaining the CISSP!

"WGU accepts limited college transfer credits at the graduate (master’s) level in only a few programs: M.S. Nursing and Master of Health Leadership. Transfer credit into the M.S. Nursing and Master of Health Leadership programs will only be considered for new students beginning their program on February 1, 2021, and beyond. Transfer credit is not accepted in all other master's programs" That's what the wgu website says. I didn't catch that well how you passed those classes. Were those classes automatically accredited with your credentials transfered or you just had to go thru all the content anyway and clear it on 1 day because you knew it all already and the credentials were mere knowledge tools?
@JoshMadakor2 жыл бұрын
For the MSCSIA, I didn't have anything that transferred in. When I took it, they didn't recognize CISSP (for some dumb reason), so I had to do all the classes. with that said, I already knew a lot of the curriculum already from prior work/study so I was able to get through it pretty quickly

question. If i wanted to eventually work at FAANG, they don't care about the college, just the degree and experience correct? was thinking of doing the Georgia Tech one instead but not sure

Holy cow! 12 days MS in IT? Wonder if I should buckle down.
@JoshMadakor2 жыл бұрын
12 days is really abnormal. i heard someone did it faster. When I did it, they didn't accept CISSP as credit, but now they do. Anyways, the cyber MS is not so hard, but certs are probably more valuable, depending on where you are in your career :p

@@babycutezz5665 if you have CEH and CISSP I think you'll able to skip 3 classes. There are 9 classes for the MSCIA. 5 classes you have to complete 4 you can use certifications or previous credit from other schools to bypass.

Just starting on WGU. Would you recommend getting as much transfer credit as possible or just going through WGU? Doing BSIT Mgmt.
@JoshMadakor2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for watching. I would definitely recommend doing this for a number of reasons. I'm releasing a video that specifically talks about this pretty soon, but in the mean time, you can kinda look at this spreadsheet. It lists all the WGU degrees with links to Study[.]com courses that transfer into each degree at WGU. There is also a discount code! docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JR1dubSxj5KU1tOriMbYFmN9GsIBpgyd4RJPfSq82Qw/edit#gid=0 Of course you don't have to do this, but it potentially saves a lot of money and stress as you adjust into the WGU learning model. Be sure to work with your enrollment counselor at WGU! Thanks for watching :)

How many pages do the essays have to be on average? I already have A+, Net+, and bachelor's in Computer Information System. Currently working on Security+ so a Master's in CyberSec seems like the logical path to take in the coming months - then back to learning CCNA and eventually CISSP so I can pursue a career in Network Security Engineering.
@JoshMadakor2 жыл бұрын
If you get CISSP first, it will make the masters degree a lot easier. It will also satisfy a couple of the classes I heard as well. In the Masters, the essays were probably around 6-10 pages. My final was around 25-30 pages :)
@kylemcgowan12 жыл бұрын
I presume that Cissp and Ceh certs can equate and transfer in and clep you out of some classes. So if you have Cissp and ceh before you start the Masters, do you only need to take around 5 credits to get the degree?
@JoshMadakor2 жыл бұрын
Hey Kyle! CISSP and CEH will definitely knock off some classes. I think CISSP might knock off 2 classes (not sure anymore), and CEH definitely knocks off 1. So yeah, you'll have less classes after you transfer those in. Originally there is 9 courses, so you'll be taking 6-7 at that point. Hope this helps :)

How did you tell your program mentor that you want to finish the program in 11 day? I just enrolled in WGU and I already have my first Master's degree in Network Security and have been on the field for quite a while and I'd like to finish this ASAP for a review only. Thanks
@JoshMadakor Жыл бұрын
Haha, you don’t gotta tell them anything, you just do classes very fast. You can tell them ahead of time that you want to finish fast, and you don’t want to have “down time”. For example, when you turn on your last assignment for your last class you have opened up to you, you wanna make sure they are immediately ready to open the next class so you aren’t sitting around doing nothing. Other than this, you just gotta work fast ^^ 💨

I'm in wgu now and just can't seem to get Network+
@JoshMadakor2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Sorry to hear it. I would recommend the following: 1) Do this google search, [ _how I passed Network+ site:__reddit.com_ ] and look at some of the threads to see how other people are passing. 2) My personal favorite: Do a sh*tton of practice questions, wherever you can get them. professormesser, CBTNuggets, Quizlet, random internet ones, reddit suggestions, etc. The more you do, the more likely you are to pass--just make sure you understand why the right answers are right, and why the wrong answers are wrong. It might take some time, but you'll get it eventually.

I’m asking this question before I’m enrolled - but when exactly are you taking the external exams? I plan to go for MS CSIA, but I actually don’t have any carts. When are you exactly taking the carts, when you finish all the classes?
@JoshMadakor Жыл бұрын
When you take them depends on you. Unless they changed it, this degree needs 1 cert which is CEH, so whenever you take the class that requires CEH is when you take it haha. You can request to take it immediately after your first batch of assigned classes is done if you want^^

I recently read a security+ book once and passed the exam the next week. So I would say I have a foot in the material already. How realistic do you think it is for me to sign up right now and complete the classes in the next two months or less?
@JoshMadakor2 жыл бұрын
Hey Raymond! Thanks so much for commenting and watching. 2 months is really fast, but since you finished Sec+ and have a basic understanding, it might be possible if you committed yourself full time. Some of the classes are a pain in the ass (CEH and the forensics class). You just have to approach studying with the intent of not memorizing everything, but learning enough to identify the correct/incorrect answers on the exams. The capstone is easy and pretty much most of the other non-exam classes. Feel free to DM me on IG or email me directly (email is on my channel) for the non-exam classes if you need any times. Short answer, 2 months is possible. Long answer, 2 months is really fast, but is possible lol.

@@JoshMadakor Quick update for your, I started on December 1st. 1st class is secure network design. I submitted the paper earlier today. 2nd class is information security and assurance. I passed the preassessment with I would say around 80% guessing from the bar graph. Wondering if I should just take the assessment now. Was the actual assessment much harder than the preassessment? Cause I felt like it was pretty easy and I finished 70 questions in 30 minutes.

Quick Question, I’m currently earning a bachelors in cybersecurity from a local college. Will WGU accept any STEM degree in order for me to take the M.S cybersecurity courses? Also what certifications will waive the class requirements in the masters? For example if I have Sec+ will it waive any of the Master degree classes to finish faster? Reason why I ask is as I’m finishing my bachelors I get earn a certification and that certification can waive master degree classes to finish faster.
