I think that one of the main things that limits the effectiveness of the Sea Shepherds would be a lack of professionalism- as demonstrated by a few things in this episode, especially the boat drivers refusal to answer the radio. There wasn't anything wrong with aborting the cutting of the radio, but there certainly is something with not answering the radio
@harrymcandrew14472 жыл бұрын
garrettt swearingen can you blame the small boat driver for not answering the radio though when he saild he wasnt consulted witch pissed him off
@alberich3099 Жыл бұрын
@@harrymcandrew1447 yes you can, that is what Garrett said - lack of professionalism. Even if you are pissed, and hate a person at the moment, in a professional setting you still follow the previous set protocols. Now haveing said that - beeing a member of an HRT myself, working now as an civil EOD tech and voluntarily as an EMT, there are a few things wrong with how it was handeled. a) even with the captain beeing the ultimate head of a vessel, there are some guidelins with HRT (which ships fall under) which prohibits the situation to be handled how it was. A captain generally has an XO who can veto certain decisions which don't directly regard the ship. imput from officers is always to factor in (even if not followed they must be asked) b) haveing the driver be the radio man during a rather dangerous manouver is stupid, get a man more on board, there is a reason that if I'm treating a patient I don't answer the radio c) if the officer felt left out, within HRT he can make his voice heard, by speaking up it is not only allowed but encouraged. So while Garrett is right that there was some unprofessional behavior during a high risk operation going on, my gripe is not with the guy not answering the radio (although in this setting beeing upset is NOT an excuse), but how the operation seemingly is set up

Japan makes an effort for preservation, the protection of the endangered species, and such a viewpoint of Japan is equal to the purpose of the international whaling control treaty (ICRW ※ 1). The decision of the International Whaling Commission (IWC) should be made based on scientific grounds, international law, consideration to cultural variety. The viewpoint of the anti-whaling based on feelings disturbs the solution to difficult international negotiations. Not only that, The meeting administration that confrontation posture is clear. And bipolarization. These will bring about the malfunction state problem that IWC faces now . As for the Japanese whaling policy, the situation and the whaling survey by IWC, criticism is posed, but the most are based on misunderstanding and wrong information.

Sea Shepherd should buy a couple of used diesel-electric submarines, or some fast semi-submersibles, instead of these fancy trimarans. Then they could fire inert hull-punching homing torpedoes on the whaling vessels. Not to sink them, or injure any of the crew, but just enough to punch a hole or two in their hulls. That may well cause them to abandon the hunt (massacre) and return to port for repairs. A few holes won't sink those whaling vessels. They have watertight compartments, and will have plenty of buoyancy left to get back to home port. Alternatively, some small to medium sized fouling torpedoes could be fired at them, to foul up their propellers with steel mesh, or glass fiber rope. Somewhat extreme measures to be sure; but that's all that these knuckle head whalers will understand. Folks, please feel free to share and copy these suggestions onto any or all other anti-whaling KZbin channels. (Note: Strictly speaking, a submarine is not required in order to launch any type of torpedo. Any vessel the size of a WWII type PT-boat, British Motor Torpedo Boat or thereabouts will suffice.)

I did 2 seasons on the Xander Corvus but unfortunately had to leave as the required 15 hours of hacky sack training got in the way of whale protection and basic maritime safety procedure. Also the Japanese whaling fleet do a starting salary of $50k.

These people make their profession look bad, I’m talking about the sea shepherds
@petej85564 жыл бұрын
They don't have a profession! They're certainly not seafarers! They're an absolute danger to themselves & everyone else on the water!
@justingill80576 жыл бұрын
The Gemini crew replaced courage with whinging spearheaded by the pilot. That boat is quite capable of handling those conditions. They didn’t want to go from the start (kinda undermines their role) and they let everyone down. Then they refused to communicate which created a far more serious situation than cutting a cable above the water level.
@TheCoolhead27 Жыл бұрын
Wrong. What they were attempting is highly dangerous. There is massive tension on that line it could break bones, it could damage the boat.

YES ! Thank you. When they acted like that i was wondering if they actually remembered what they signed up for. You knew it wasnt gonna be easy, you knew it HAD to be done, for the Mission, and you quit after a few times, because you're afraid of a blue spot? The radio silence was toping their childish behaviour. Stay home kids, let adults handle the mission next time. (YES, i saw it was rough, it was no news - try as hard as you can, or stay off the ship from the start)

This rant is not about wales. This about the moronic tactics taken by so called professional seamen. Firing pyrotechnics at ships is, to say the least, very irresponsible. I would love to see the qualifications of "Captains" Barker / Irwin. Barked wears the rank of Master Mariner and besides being a disgrace to the profession, shows a complete lack of experience. The radar picture shows a very high clutter setting which would obliterate small targets at close range. The Solas Collisions Regulations state that in close quarter situation both vessels will take all necessary action to avoid collision. Intentionally putting your own vessel in a dangerous position and thereby putting life at risk is a criminal offence. Activists are not above the law.
@priosminimus69699 жыл бұрын
+John Millar So what do you recommend besides citing laws that the other party is kicking ass at? What besides "waving hello" and broadcasting the obvious? These guys out there are not on a vacation trip, they have a destination. They are doing a job that our famous governments aren't doing because they listen to money. If you regulate any protest down to shouting and cardboard-signs (including arresting even those)...then everything else is sort of terrorism, right. That's the typical dictator's way. But it's a terrorism for the right thing, the thing that is regulated by law, so it's official it's the right thing, ok? What do you do on the street if a girl was raped in front of you? YOU will stand there and cowardly recite laws? Or will you kick the balls out of that asshole to save her live? If you recite you're not better than the raper because you accept what he's doing, you're not acting against him enforcing the law. If you're kicking, you're doing the job of the policemen who are not at hand.
@kmh46748 жыл бұрын
+Dirk Müller-Paul Whether the governments are doing the job doesn't matter, just because because the governments don't do their job does not not mean is falls on the shoulders of some joe-blow organization and it especially does not give said organization the right to endanger potentially hundreds of human lives in the process. And just to put the cherry on top of the cake it also does not give said joe-blow organization the right to violate an international law of their own. you want a recommendation as to what they should do, they should get captains and crews who aren't going to disregard international oceanic laws or human life for that matter simply because they have the blind obsession with "whale justice" and if that's to much to ask then they should just go home. If they really feel that strong a need to be the result of Jack Sparrow and PETA having a child together then maybe the might want to think about joining an animal rescue centre or something as opposed to playing coast guard with the Japanese.
@colinsbane5 жыл бұрын
You probably won't see this, but for the record anyway. You are very selective in your criticisms. The "so-called professional" Japanese sailors are towing fouling lines and are in breach of the rule requiring an overtaking vessel to keep out of the way of the vessel being overtaken. If you have really been 50 years at sea you would know this, so why did you not include the reckless behaviour of the Japanese in your criticisms? Would if you would have been so sanctimonious if instead of tackling illegal whaling the Sea Shepherd boats had been tackling pirates? And finally, just what is your hangup about people risking their lives in trying to protect the fragile environment of this planet from callous hard-nosed commercial interests? Anyone might think you had shares in the whaling fleet.
