Hello Captain, from Colorado again, my first time at sea back in 1965, was on a training/R&R cruise down the Mexican Baja coast to La Paz. About 3/4 of the way down we stopped in Magdalena Bay which for a couple decades now has been a popular tourist destination for whale watching/interaction from small boats. At the time it was a remote desert bay with only a very tiny fishing village where we anchored. We had a little ships party on the desert shore outside of the village, everyone got 2 beers, I took several B&W snapshots and then back to the ship... Around 40 years later when I got my first Apple I-Mac and started looking up all those obscure places I've visited, I discovered the village, Puerto Magdalena, was called "Man 'O War Cove" until recently... In 1908 when President Roosevelt sent the "Great White Fleet" around the world, it stopped there for a month to conduct gunnery practice and that's where they anchored. It was a thrill to compare my old photos with images on the internet and pin point that location, and then learn the history so many years later... Incredible sea life along that coast...Cheers and best wishes.

Greetings from Ukraine:) Very nice story, thank you! I'm missing my early years at sea, my first training vessel was three mast sailing vessel "Tovarishch" ("Comrad" in english) in 1989. We climbed the rope ladders along the mast like a monkeys, rigged the sails and suffered from sea sickness:). Anyway it was very funny and romantical. This ship was built in 1933 in Germany and captured by USSR after the victory over nazi at 1945, and since than was used as the training vessel for cadets. All the best to you!

@@S.Kostan_1970Thank you for your reply, Wow, beautiful ship, now in Stralsund, Germany as a museum ship and you sailed out of Kherson on her (Wikipedia)... I just stumbled on a video of her that I had watched a couple weeks ago titled by her new name "SSS Gorch Fock" on a small channel called Don Haraldo, I can't believe I watched that, commented on it, and that you had sailed on it... The video I believe you will really enjoy is "Around Cape Horn (1929)" filmed by Capt. Irving Johnson... best wishes Sir.

Looks like they were in a good mood that day. Have you always sailed on tankers?
