The new “Super Ball” is nothing like the original. The original SB was one of the greatest toys ever sold. When it was brought back, it was a Japan knock-off, that was dead and that’s a shame. They tout is as the Amazing Original SB, but it’s far from it. I guess they figured kids today could care less about a “ball”, so make em cheap.

I can tell you by the sound the Superball makes when it hits that it is defective. My Fathers creation. A engineer from Firestone Tires brought it into Wham-O in a shapeless blob of Butadiene (C4h6). If you try to slide a supper ball or this other one on a piece a glass, you will discover that it has a super high coefficient of friction. This is what is added to your car tire that stops you faster than just regular rubber. There was also Supper Golf Ball, Supper Soft Ball, mediums and mini supper ball and there were also 8 SUPER BOLWING BALLS. Together these 8 balls did well over 1 million dollars in damages. The butadiene is unique because it expands when it cools, so the molds had to be able to take 1500 lbs of pressure. To make those 8 Super Bowling Balls my father broke 3 expensive bowling ball molds. Check and see if the Superball goes to Australia story is still up...

The original Super Balls in 1965 were larger than that, and sold for 98 cents. They claimed they bounced up to 92% the height of where they were dropped from. That was probably from an average height of an adult onto a hard cement floor. I doubt a ball dropped from a 100 story building onto the sidewalk would make it back up to the 92nd floor. If you can get your hands on the original Super Balls, that would be a cool test.

Where I was, Superballs appeared in the school yard for the first time in 1972. Few kids had them because they were expensive (I was given them by a friend who got them wholesale). Nothing at the time could compare. A good hard throw onto cement and the ball would easily fly over the school building. Often I could not locate them afterwards. Make a misjudged throw onto concrete, and in rebounding it would almost cause a fracture line in asbestos eaves. Chuck one down a road and it would be beyond sight within 3 seconds. Superballs did not have a particularly high bounce when dropped from hand height. It was when you threw them hard onto a hard surface that they skyrocketed. For whatever reason, they seemed noticeable less potent a couple of years later.

It's not the real super ball. It's a Chinese knockoff with the "Wham-o name" placed on it. They didn't even try to use the same material as Wham-o did, which, btw, has an expired patent.

The superball amplifies applied force. Dropping it only applies the weight of the ball dropping as applied force. If you threw both balls with applied force, the more the force, the higher the bounce. Try shooting the two out of a potato gun, and you'll see the applied force magnified and see there is no comparison between the two

its bouncing less because its more dense than a cheap ball and heavier and also its bouncing on a hollow wooden floor. i have a couple and ive done this same test. they bounce slower but higher when on hard wood or concrete. well worth 3 bucks but i cant find them cheaper than 10 bucks nowadays which is way too much

Back in 1965 I had a super bowl. Didn't look like the one you show on their. Mine was bigger almost as big as a baseball and it was flat black. I took it outside to play with it threw it on the ground as hard as I could and it started bouncing down a hill down the street and never saw it again. But with each bounce it was going higher and higher

Sounds like a wooden floor too. Super Ball are meant for concrete or asphalt. Also get a 1960s Ball those were bad ass. The bounce back was 80% or more from the height it is dropped.

I've wanted the 1965 for 20 years and still never been able to buy one for a sane price. However 2 years ago I was lucky enough to find one while working in a school in the bucket of superballs in the science lab. I guess it's been there ever since the 1960s. I got to use it and it was AMAZING. I really wanted to put it in my pocket but I didn't.. as far as I know it's still there :). It was great to have used one at least.

I think that because of its density it needs more force to really see the magic of its bounce. In grade 6 I handed one over to my friend Riley who was a baseball king and he whipped it as hard as he can across the gym and I kid you not it came back within 3 seconds. We were playing with it outside and my friend Derek hit it on the ground towards me but it ended up being intercepted by a kids face. Poor kid. His glasses exploded. Eye was fine though.

The rubber ball is bouncer with small throws but the super ball is meant to be throwed really hard on the ground and It doesnt go well with small bounces because it's really thick and heavy for its size trust me i throwed it really hard i couldn't even see it in the air Because it went so high

Hi, Maybo Tan, thanks for the comment! Neither ball was thrown - they were dropped, and they were dropped from essentially the same height. The wall is at an angle, which might give the illusion of difference. Yes, we did eyeball it, but even if there was a slight difference in the height that they were dropped, there was a dramatic difference in the bounce height.

Hi, Gateway photography - thanks for the comment! I have my doubts about whether that would make a difference - but it's a good idea for a follow-up video. The only challenge(s) would be 1) bouncing with equal force each time, and 2) measuring how high each ball bounced.
