You aren't going to garnish any wages while someone is in jail... and I'm going to guess most people who drive uninsured don't have much spare income and probably shouldn't be allowed to drive since they most likely cannot afford adequate maintenance to keep their vehicle safe for everyone else's sakes either. Suspending their license would be more effective, revoke their license altogether on 3rd offence.

The license plate number is actually 1DADDV which is on a 2021 Honda Ridgeline according to a license plate lookup website. State governments could easily dramatically reduce the number of uninsured drivers since in most if not all states, drivers are required to show proof of insurance when registering vehicles and insurance companies are required to notify DMV when insurance is no longer in force. Of course, states would have to spend a LOT of tax money to make this happen. My take is that governments look at damage done by uninsured drivers as being acceptable social costs. And what could governments do to prevent uninsured vehicles from being driven? Impound them? That could be a lot of vehicles since in some states uninsured vehicles are about 30% of those on roads.

Hell just go for drives just to get familiar with different situations traffic etc. Whats seem to keep me safe so far has been bumping music. Unfortunately, too many police departments use DUIs to generate revenue. In 2005, I was stopped by a police officer. The first words out of his mouth were YOU’RE DUI. Went back to the police station, blew a zero and was cited for DUI. Had to be arraigned the next day. The city gets $2,500 from the state per ARREST. The federal government kicks in $3,500 per ARREST. That’s $6,000 per ARREST. Not conviction, per ARREST. This same city has been doing this for thirty five years. Average of 5 arrests per night, 7 days a week, for 35 years. Most people blow zeroes. Half the city budget comes from DUI arrests. Thanks, MADD.

Except it's been proven time and time again that America's harsh prison sentences don't really do anything to reduce crime rates. In fact, the US has THE highest recidivism (re offender) rates in the WORLD at 70% within 5 years of release. Whereas places like Norway are sitting comfortable at about 20%. Just throwing people in jail cells like animals isn't the answer. Norway uses rehabilitation and restorative justice techniques. It seems to work pretty well. We use private prisons, slave labor, and threats of death if we don't comply. There's a reason the US has become a model for how NOT to govern your people...

I think you may be referring to the power automatic dimming mirrors or "electrochromic mirrors" it reduces the headlight glare from drivers behind you. It especially helps if the driver behind has their highbeams on. It's installed on the driver, passenger side mirror, and interior rear view mirror.

I'll explain something about collision estimates, every insurance company has a percentage of the blue book value of the car they allow up to for a repair. Some only allow 50% and some allow 90%. They also base the value on how you keep the interior. Lets say you have 2 exact models with the exact mileage/kilometers on the clock, if one has a clean interior it will have a higher value than one where the owners treat it like a dumpster. Another reason teslas get totaled quick is if it was a hard enough impact the insurance doesnt take a chance with the battery pack. Dont forget it could ignite 30 days later. It takes 5,000 gallons to extinguish a gas vehicle fire where the entire car is in flames, yet 40,000 for a EV fire. It can also re-ignite at anytime. Aluminum vehicles are 4 times more expensive to repair since you have to be certified and Aluminum frames cannot be repaired, they MUST be replaced. Depending on the year of the vehicle you may not be able to splice the rail and have to install the entire rail which goes all the way under the rear seats. That means the entire interior must be removed. Collision techs are not just bondo slingers.......

@kazzellinempanger8998 I've seen that before, aluminum will never be as strong as steel yet everything is going aluminum for weight savings and better fuel economy. Certified with iCar for aluminum frame repair and replacement, what would take 4 hours on a steel frame takes 12 or more. There's a specific procedure you MUST follow to pull aluminum on a frame machine. They use specialized rivets called self piercing and blind rivets. The self piercing rivet gun costs 25 grand. Then you have the specialized bonding glue required for aluminum and so on. Vehicles are not designed to be repaired anymore, they are designed to save the occupants and that's it. Now you see why a minor accident can cost 30 grand in a tesla?

Gotta love those left turns through traffic... The other day that happened behind me (alas, I don't have a rear view recording). The car behind me left a gap and another vehicle poked out to make the left. Just as they were getting ready to make their move the car behind me honked. I watched in my mirror as the driver stuck their hand out of their window and made a stopping motion to the car - you guessed it, driving down the 'no travel' portion of the center lane - coming up fast. That car immediately did a hard braking and managed to stop as the left turning car, their bumper just staring to peek, stopped as well. Thanks to the 'nice guy' leaving a gap and actually paying attention no collision occurred. The left turning vehicle crept out in front of the now stopped median runner - probably on purpose - and prevented them from making the light before it cycled red. That individual was honking all the while as the car that had been behind me got around the left turner and we made it through the light just as it cycled yellow.

Similar thing happened to me the other day. I was the passenger on a motorbike. Heavy traffic at a 4-way stop. Van in front left a gap for vehicles coming from the right to turn left. Model Y starts through the gap. I can see a heave duty Ford truck coming and I start yelling "don't go, don't go." Tesla continues through and the truck had to swerve and slam on his brakes. All I was thinking was if the truck hit the Tesla, it would crash into us and the motorbike was toast.

I don't understand how uninsured vehicles are prevalent especially for a gigantic expensive truck like that. If you don't have insurance Jen your registration will become suspended. In every state I know if you are driving with no insurance and a suspended registration you will be arrested and bonded. You don't just a ticket and be sent on your way.

Tom was definitely responsible. Just because someone in one lane waves at you does not mean it’s safe to cross further lanes. If you can’t see around a vehicle to visually see the left lane you don’t go. Plus he was crossing a double-yellow line, which means no left turn out of that parking lot. I learned that after being involved in an accident where a woman, coming out of a parking lot, crossed a double-yellow line making a left turn right into me. Only when the yellow line is broken are you legally allowed to cross it. Technically, you’re not allowed to cross a double-yellow line when turning into a parking lot either.

Double yellow lines does not equal “No left turns”. From the Illinois “Rules of The Road (2024): “Solid double yellow lines are used where traffic is moving in opposite directions. Two solid lines mark the center of the roadway and may be crossed to make a left turn to or from an alley, private road, driveway or street”

Tom is certainly responsible but at least here that crossing double yellow only involves passing, if it was parking lots too you would never be able to exit or enter a parking lot if it was not on/towards the traffic bound side of the road In Texas, the double solid yellow line indicates that it is a no-passing zone and drivers should not cross or pass the line under any circumstances. This is a legal left turn in Illinois; the minivan is at fault because they were passing traffic in the median. The Tesla was at a stop sign in a parking lot where left turns were legal.

It's not just Teslas, all newer cars have larger crumple zones than older cars, which means they're more likely to suffer more damages in order to enhance the safety of it's occupants. Edit: Besides, many of the cars that get "written off" will be sold abroad and fixed there, as labour is potentially cheaper there and rules and regulations are less strict.

We definitely do not need more electric semi trucks on the road. Electric semi trucks are not a plausible solution as they don't have the range needed. A semi truck can run 1,200 miles fully loaded with no problem or needing a charge. Those trucks wouldn't allow those people to make a real living. Trucks already have collision mitigation, adaptive cruise, lane departure, and loud audible alerts.

Fun fact about German traffic law, 12:31 it's very common for instances where the van would have had right of way, it's often referred to as the "right before left" rule, and then Ralph's car would actually have to stop; but in this case you see the white-bordered yellow diamond sign on the right, that indicated Ralp is on a "priority road" [announcer called it a "main road" but I think there might be a slight difference between main vs priority] and then you can barely see just behind the van is a triangular sign pointing down - that's a yield sign, but again if that signage were not there, then the van would actually have the right of way...which can often occur, especially at 3 or 4 way intersections.

5:00 the Passat didn't forget to accelerate. If the vehicle has more than 400.000 km and the 1.9 TDI engine, there is an issue with factory turbos where they first start to send a little less boost, and completely fail to send any after 2700 rpm in the 3rd, and BOOM no more boost in any speed. Source: Neighbour is a mechanic. He sees a lot of those 1.9 with a faulty ORIGINAL TURBO that either cracks ( or a vacuum line fails ) after 450.000 km. And my dad owns a 2003 1.9 tdi golf. I'll never forget the feeling of the boost disappearing while merging into the highway.
