Awesome place. I've been going to Whangamata and Onemana for years. I recall several fishing trips with dad on the charter boat Te Ra. Not sure if they still operate. I actually did a couple of land based missions from the rocks at Onemana last year and did well - still plenty of fish around.

Yeah there were a couple out of Tairua back in the day. I remember there were a couple of gill netters as well that did very well at the Aldies and dogger bank

@@tkoffshorefishing yep...I worked on Snoppy , Viking and Vikki 2. I was deckie and relief skipper on Vikki 2. Do you remember any of them?

@@pauanui1 yeah mate, Vicki 2 was the one I was thinking about. I remember the marriage split cost him his quota twice if I remember correctly, poor bugger but he used to do very well. In those days I had a little 26 footer and then upgraded to the 36ft ferro concrete hull "Nautalis" out of Whangamata and then the 56ft Vanguard. Good times

@@tkoffshorefishing haha, yep, he did pay out twice on that, made for some sombre days on the briny. We did do very well, Richard was a good fisherman. I think I remember Vanguard, aft wheelhouse?

@@pauanui1 yeah aft wheelhouse, to big for Whanga so I started fishing out of Tauranga and Auckland
