The writers of the show hated how much the fans insisted on identifying with Walter, the ambiguously bad man, that they had to keep editing the scripts to make sure it was clear that Walt was an irredeemably bad guy (even if he was, yes, and appropriately so, a complex, not entirely evil character). But by this point, everyone should have realized Walt was going to be guilty of this.

I never watched the show, but I pretty much know all the main plot points. Wasn't Walt originally written as an ordinary good guy who was pretty much forced to make/sell drugs to survive? It seems to me that the writers originally wrote Walt as a character viewers could identify with as in "how far would I go if I had no choice." So it seems odd that they'd be mad that the fans supported the character for so long, though I agree the examples given shouldn't have come with excuses from fans.

He was definitely a $hit person. I also think it comes down to the lead character almost always being sympathized with in most every series/movie. Very rarely do we see a plot follow an objectively evil lead character around.
