So... what do you think? Was house #1 the right call? Was there anything obvious we should be doing with the layout? We're soo excited for this next chapter in the Japanese countryside and to bring you along with us 😊

Fellow Aussie, campervan and Hilux (slowly becoming an overlander) owner who is a stones throw away from Mt Asama (Tsumagoi). I bought a few cheap houses out this way, living here for the past three years, but in Japan for 18 years. Somewhat similar, came over with a working holiday visa and never left. Happy to stumble across your channel and if you're ever up for a beer and a chat let me know!

It's so nice to hear from a fellow Aussie out this way! It'd be interesting to hear about all your experiences after 18 years here. I think I saw a message come through on Instagram, so I'll reply more there 😊

Congratulations on the new house!! That was my favorite 1 from your house viewing video too 💫 second favorite was the 1st one on Kazuizawa because it was so cute, but I can imagine how cold it would get there, and the humid days would be a drag. ⛩ Amazing choice! Good luck decorating!! I look forward to seeing more videos! I'll be traveling in that area Sep-Nov 😊

Thank you for watching and for your lovely comment! ☺️ Yes some of the Karuizawa ones were very cute but we’re ultimately glad we went with Saku for the more temperate weather and less tourist traffic. Ooh how exciting! What spots do you have picked out so far in the area?

The loft can be a gaming and reading space. Just get bean bags for sitting.

Looks great! I would probably sleep upstairs and use main floor room for office. Hey, you have choices and can do what you want! Yay. You will love the ‘inaka’ and the wonderful fruits and veggies in Nagano. It will be fun to see you settle in!

Congratulations 🥳 guys! Delighted for the two of you moving into such a nice home. The layout of upstairs living is really nice, something you don’t generally see very often. The way we decided with decorating our house was just looking at colours that we both liked, we have similar colour walls to your place and then we were very fortunate that the previous owner laid a hardwood floor in the lounge. The main focus piece is a an L shaped chocolate brown leather sofa so the cream walls really worked well with it. Then we just put in other random things we liked. I can understand that it might feel a little daunting at first as there’s so many different options you can go for but just go with what makes the two of you happy and comfortable 😊 So happy to hear that you’re both very excited to be in this lovely looking area, I’m sure you will be finding your new favourite local places and get to know people very quickly. Growing your own veggies and fruits would be great and also a great way to get to know your neighbours. The loft does look bigger now they have finished the fitting out, maybe have a couple of bean bags for relaxing and reading? It looks like you get a decent amount of natural sunlight through them so maybe use half of the space for storing your snowboarding/hiking/camping kit and the half closest to the windows as a chill out? Once again congratulations on moving into your new home and thank you for sharing it with everyone too. Best wishes to the two of you and have a great weekend 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇦🇺🇯🇵😊

Thank you so much! 😊 Yeah we're already really loving the flipped layout with living upstairs. I think it works well for people who work from home. Wah yes it can be a little daunting haha. We've come to realise that just because a piece of furniture looks nice, it doesn't mean it's necessarily comfortable. So we're trying to balance those two elements. We haven't got a sofa yet but we're very excited to get one when the budget allows 😆 Yes I think that's a perfect idea for the loft - some bean bags could go really well! Thank you so much for your continued support! It's always so wonderful seeing the notification for your comment come through. Hope you enjoy the weekend!

@@RoyandAimee hi guys thank you as always for your lovely reply, it’s great to hear you’re settling in well, it looks like such a great find for a home. I completely agree with you there about furniture looking nice and not being comfortable lol 😂 I think getting the right sofa for you is the same as getting the right bed/mattress as they are the two things you tend to spend quite a bit of ‘down time’ on. I imagine it’s the same as having a good work chair at your desk if you work from home. Likewise it’s always lovely seeing a notification from the two of you. I really hope that more and more people will come to find your content. Really looking forward to seeing more of your new area when time permits, I’m sure you’ll soon get some ‘local inside knowledge’ from your neighbours too. Have a great weekend too 😊

Yes agree with you there about the sofa! We went with the Australian brand Koala for a mattress and it’s been really comfy so far. Hopefully we can also get a good sofa for relaxing haha. Thank you for your encouragement! 🥹 We’ll keep doing our best to show these wonderful parts of Japan (hopefully with some helpful knowledge from the locals 😆).

@@RoyandAimee hi guys that’s great to hear you’ve got a good mattress, we’re just in the process of changing ours as well, we got a really good deal on the last one but we’re going for something different this time around so hopefully it will do us well. I’m happy the comments and likes is encouraging, the content you make is genuinely excellent and for me personally you do cover subjects that I’m interested in such as hiking/walking. Japan is such a big country and while the major cities are rightly interesting and amazing in their own right I’ve always wanted to see more away from the regular ‘tourist’ areas. Hopefully I’ll be able to make the ‘bucket list’ holiday in the future and your experiences in your videos have definitely given me a lot of inspiration for places to visit and I genuinely thank you for that. Always great to hear from the two of you and that things are going well. Have a great remainder to your weekend and good luck with more ideas for decorating your lovely new home 😊

Congratulations on the move! Please do a vid on how to get the utilities set up and what your internet speed is. The last two videos from kyde&eric were based in and around Saku. They just came out on patreon so they will be available later this month.

Thank you so much! Oh wow! We didn’t know they were around the area. Super duper excited to see what kind of stuff they got up to! Oh also utilities were actually kinda chill, the realestate agent had a reference company called “Lifeline” that pretty much set up everything for us (with just a few phone calls here and there). And then we went with Janis Hikari on a 1gigabit plan, nice and speedy for Aimee to upload all that Tokyo Cheapo footage! (Although of course haven’t seen the full 1gb speed yet haha)

New house looks awesome. I remember hearing CDawgVA talk about getting a small piece of furniture picked up as trash and how difficult and elaborate the process was to get it taken away. So could be a good amount of second hand furniture available in the area. I think part of the difficulty was maybe it being an urban area versus the countryside, but Japanese usually take really good care of their stuff.
@RoyandAimee
@RoyandAimee 4 ай бұрын
Haha yes the process is pretty elaborate here too. We've already received a visit from our nieghborhood garbage manager to welcome us and detail all the garbage rules 😅 But yes! The secondhand stores do seem to have some well-taken care of furniture. We've visited a couple times now 😁

'Grats. At 190cm height myself I feel your pain in the kitchen with the low set sink and fan systems to bump into/try to avoid. This place in in Sakudaira, right? Looking forward to future videos about your new hometown and surounding areas. If you guys are into Japanese sake nearby Saku has sake breweries.

Damn, at 190 I don’t think you’re fitting under any fan system😅 Yeah! It’s Sakudaira - although we’re actually not big sake drinkers, but enjoy taking people who come to visit to these places, so good to know the area has some stuff going on 😄

Hello. I'm new to this channel, so I don't know too much about you all. Has anyone commented that your rent seems rather enormous? Are you right in the center of a ski town or some other reason for your rent being about double what would be expected?

Hi there! You certainly can find a lot cheaper if you’re looking for an apartment or older home in this area. Our criteria was a house and something built in the last ~15 years (we wanted a newer build with insulation as it’s pretty cold here in winter 🥶) so this brought the price up a bit.
