Beautiful place. And yes, unless one has parents who live on the upper west side to "gift" it to you it's not going to happen for ya. Well done, she's beyond lucky. And she has every right to enjoy every minute of her inherited environment. Now, what $1300 is really gonna get ya anywhere in the boroughs without inheritance is a bedroom with 2 or 3 roommates deep into Brooklyn or Queens.

Back in the day, apartment life was all we knew in NYC. If your parents or grandparents were lucky enough to have a rent stabilized/controlled unit, you hung onto it for dear life..lol. This is a beautiful apartment in an excellent location. I love it!! A friend of mine had his apartment passed down from his parents and it's huge!!! 3 bed/2 bath, Living Room, Dining Room, Sitting Room, enormous closets, and wait for it....a swimming pool!!! Gotta love it!! His apt. is rent controlled and he pays the bargain basement price of $625 a month!!

new yorker here: unless you have a family member in the city with a rent stabilized price like this, you're not gonna find a two bedroom for that low in the upper west side. A studio? It's doable. Definitely recommend looking for more affordable neighborhoods, or looking into living with a roommate or two (also wanna note that it's important to do some gentrification research before living in the city and make sure you're aware of the history/cultures of places you move to)

Absolutely love her home as my design inspiration is also Parisian apartments with an eclectic mix of old and modern, and I love her mix of light and dark spaces where she’s chosen her paint colors intentionally. My boyfriend and I are renovating a 1950’s house in the south and it’s pretty bland architecturally, so I’ve been anticipating when we’ll get to add molding and details to bring some interest into the house. My goal is that even without furniture it will still feel cozy. Also everybody talking about her privilege should at least still acknowledge she’s made the place her own and she’s not ignorant of her upbringing. Everything has a story or familial context. In my opinion she’s very grounded and actually pretty humble, and I am very prone to disliking select homeowners of home tour videos bc some of them come off pretty ignorant or are just pure flexing without any personal investment or interest in their space.

It’s one video out of the entire series where she shows an apartment that is rent-stabilized and was first rented years and years ago. She just wanted to show the perspective of someone who grew up in New York and still lives there now. No reason to call the series unoriginal now just because one video isn’t exactly the same as the others. My parents and most family is from NY, but moved to California before I was born and I love seeing NY apartments. They are always cozy despite being in the middle of chaos. I love this apartment and the way she decorated it. It has a ton of personality.

Beautiful apartment! It inspired me to spruce up my apartment. That said, this is not what $1300 gets you in any NYC borough- ESPECIALLY Manhattan lol. I know this was past down to her and it’s rent stabilized, so it works for her, so no shade whatsoever. I pay $1200 for my studio in an Upper middle class enclave in the Northeast Bronx (I mention upper middle class because a lot of people think the Bronx is one big slum but there are so many different spots in the Bronx that people don’t know about). It’s not the largest apartment but I have a sizable yard, which is cool lol.

I love seeing these glorious aspirational apartments but I think I preferred the earlier episodes of the series where it was real people hustling to create a life in a small apartment with several roommates...it's definitely more true to life and more fun to learn from.

Blair Waldorf vibes. I live in a 400 sq ft studio for $1800 in San Diego. Very cool place though. I am curious, does your family own this place and you pay mortgage for $1300? Or this is just a lease?

It is a rental. NYC has a legal system on some housing called "rent stabilization" that is a somewhat complicated rent control system. This woman inherited her apartment from her parents, she was allowed to take over her parents lease. What she has is extremely rare.
