Attended basic at Fort Sill, as a 13 Fox in 1983. AIT was less physical but more mental. If you failed certain portions, you could retest but only once, after that you would be recycled into a different MOS. A good 13 Fox must be highly functional under pressure. Knowledgeable of his duties and responsibilities. Map reading and navigation skills are essential, however to advance and succeed in this profession you must learn how to call in Close Air and Naval Gun Fire missions. Being knowledgeable about ciphering and deciphering codes and the operation of various communication devices, laser equipment and other devices. Being physically fit is equally important because you will be humping up and through difficult terrain. Some units are more demanding than others and you may also be required to attend additional schools; like Airborne, Air Assault, and Ranger. Among others.

Learn what enemy armor looks like, don't call arty on your allies. Cool! I was a 13F, but didn't go to Sill for it. I was an E-5 11C (mortar crewman), and in 1978 they were asking for volunteers to cross over to 13F, so I did. Because of having been an infantry FO as a mortarman at Ft. Lewis, WA (9th Inf Div), I knew the basic job already. When I finally got transferred over to an artillery battalion, I was a FIST team leader (we didn't have enough lieutenants yet). One of my guys, who last name, oddly enough was Fox, had been one of the first graduates of the FIST school at Ft. Sill. He had achieved the distinction of being called a "master blaster." I have no idea what that was. Anyway, that was my favorite job in the Army.

So much 'I don't know'... and whatevers. If you are going to take the time to create a video and use it to inform others AND possibly make some money for yourselves, at least try to provide good information and keep the viewer interested. Really, this is intended to be constructive, not trying to be a jerk. I am a real viewer just looking for some good info. I'll look at some of your other vids and give it a chance. Thanks. Late November now, and I have a hard time believing the young man on the left made it through AIT. My son just went through and his experience was different than described. Joe Kaz As a non-IET you are going to have a lot of free time. You will stay in the same barracks but be limited on where you can go inside to prevent mingling with IET students. You will show up for pt at 6, then eat and go to class. If you aren’t very good at land nav/are not acquainted with call for fire, study, study, study. I would recommend waiting to use any video gaming consoles until after your third week. You are going to have a lot more freedom than IET students, but don’t let that gimp you. It’s a hard MOS and you really need to take it serious so that you don’t kill the people around you.

I'm sure there are others but most of the tactical decisions will be made by officers of Military Intelligence which is the 35 series. But for 13F as you can see takes some planning with land nav, basic math, and some level of intelligence

Everyone thinks the infantry are just stupid bullet catchers! Well let me tell you from personal experience, some of the smartest and greatest leaders and men served with me in the infantry. It takes much more that sheer brawn. It takes fearless willingness to sacrifice, intelligence and sense. That's the thing about the infantry, if your GT score is high enough and you have a high enough PT score, you can do anything from Ranger, SF, sniper all of it. Believe it or not there is a science and art to clearing a room and squad tactics. Hell even Land nav takes skill to be good at it. Go 11bravo, you won't regret it. Last thing, all those high-speed schools are going to the SF, Ranger and infantry guys before anyone else. So if you don't have it in your contract and you're not 11B, good luck doing anything fun. Good luck! Enjoy your stay, lol P.s. If you do go to Sand Hill, look under the countertops in your bay. There's motivation and wisdom there that will help you. The best part of 11b is that you get two coveted items that no one else in the military gets. The cross rifles and the Blue cord. You will remember Honor hill for the rest of your life. That Blue cord will stay with you for ever!

Yeah decided to go 13F. After looking more into it and learning more of what it entails I actually think I'll really enjoy it. Nothing against infantry, and it was actually one of the choices I gave my recruiter. I've just always loved artillery and don't wanna do brute work like crew. (Plus FOs get to go in with infantry, which is pretty cool.) I go to MEPs next week and am hoping to get Airborne school as well.
