Just bought a 2001 Volvo V70 t5 was 128k original miles. It runs so strong and it's so quick and the handling is incredible. Best $4,000 I've ever spent on a car in my 30 years on the road.

Hi Ryan...You did well there! I recently plunged in & bought a Xc90 V8..[2009]. What a move! In my youth, I had a Volvo P1800 (1963) which I bought for 250 quid (pounds UK) (It WAS a long time ago.) It had some rust issues due to the salt on UK roads, around the rear wheel arches...But I sincerely wish I had had the means to put that car in storage......because the rest of it was excellent...be worth a small fortune now, to be sure. What is crazy is that it did not make me a dedicated Volvo man.... Since then I have driven all sorts of crap....... and only now, since buying this Xc90 have I realised what I have missed in all those intervening years: Sheer Pleasure! I love this V8.... I love the quality build....But I almost went for a V70, I must admit, good luck with yours. Stay Safe.

I am 18 and l decided to buy a Volvo v40 2000 for my first car. So far loving it. Only 95hp but its very economic. The only thing l had to fix was the suspension (wasn't broken, just had a lot of rust and was causing some vibrations while driving). For only 1000$ l am so proud of that car.

It isn't exactly maintenance free, as you have mentioned, but the smile you get behind the wheel is priceless. The exclusivity is one of my main draws to Volvo S60Rs. Let's be real for a moment. Who doesn't have a BMW? I don't want to be like the guy down the road. This isn't North Korea! Plus the S60R is a sleeper! Blow by cops and just about wave! Lol. Mine is stock of course. I've owned several Volvos over the years and got great value and lots of miles out of them. My 2005 V70 R 6-spd manual is my fav of all time. It has such great acceleration both off the line and between 3rd and 4th and between 5th and 6th. Handles great too with the electronically tuned suspension. I spend about $2k a year in new parts and maintenance, which is way cheaper than a monthly payment on a new Volvo.

I love Volvo’s also, I own three 2006 XC90’s and one 2006 V070. All of them are turbos and extremely quick and very good condition and I got them all for around $4000 each. I also learned to work on mine and save a ton of money and enjoy doing the work.

The big turn radius is due to frontwheeldrive. If you pick up a volvo with rearwheeldrive you can turn on a nickel. It is the axel in the front that coexist with the turnbar that limits the sway. Have a good day volvo lovers :)

The Volvo V70R is the baddest wagon out there if you have the manual shift!! Automatic is great too if this is your daily driver. Because Volvo was ahead of pace with new technology there's always going to be quirks but the P2 chassis are solid vehicles. Our 2004 Volvo XC70 w/factory HID option is in great shape with 256k on the odometer. I'm a professional auto tech, so I obviously do everything myself and follow all the factory recommendations on preventive maintenance/repairs. Great video.

I owned a Volvo V70XC. Same colour as yours. I was sitting stopped at a roadworks stop sign and a pickup ran into the back at estimated 80kms per hour. The pickup was a write off, but the drunk driver survived.My Volvo was dented severley but i was unharmed , my rear light blubs weren't even broken so the cops let me drive off after . Unfortunately the electrics were never any good after and I sold it after a lot of expense with computer items. Volvos are really safe in an accident! I now have a Subaru Forester. A reliable car but nothing like the character of a Volvo. Temped to look for a V70R after watching this.Thank you.

We have been a Volvo family for awhile. We had a beautiful 2006 v70 and traded it in on a 2015 v60 with all R upgrades and seats and the did the polestar upgrade. It was one of the first v60s and it has every option of the time including the cross country chrome and its low and has the awesome wheels. I love it The seats are amazing. I bought a Tesla model S and I love driving the wagon. I think we will be keeping both for a very long time. Oh and we have that color leather. Omg it still smells like a new car. Yes I love my Tesla p85 but the Volvo wagon is more fun to drive

The P2 was done just as Ford took over so its a pure Volvo. I too love the company and ethics of the Volvo. Yes they cost to maintain but then most cars do. I love to be different to everyone else so Volvo tops the list for me. I love them all - older models are my fave. The P2 feel so much more solid than the V50 I had before. The comfort is amazing. I need to front spacers on my 2006 V70 as I fitted a set of beautiful refurbished Nebulas on it so they rub badly on full lock 😂👍🏼 I would much rather drive one of these than anything new, over computerised and badly made. New cars are going to be absolute money pits in a few years where older Volvos like this will still be plugging away 👌🏼😎 The Volvo community is unmatched for friendliness and comraderie. Gotta love a 5 cylinder howl 😍

have three. 2006XC90 daily driver. 2008V70 for cruising on long trips. C70 for when I have to park in tight spaces and it is cool enough to have the top down. None of the cars look dated. Paint is excellent, still shiny and no peeling. Don't flush the transmission just drain and fill . Change all "lifetime" fluids at 100,000 miles.

Good video ! I'm from North Jersey also. Iv'e owned a 2001 Volvo v70 24t for 4 years now ! I love the car. Lots of power,comfortable,great sound system. Very solid,well built car. It does suck in the snow though ,lol ! We will see how it is this winter. I just put on new tires.. I did the struts and shocks,radiator, pads and rotors, 2 coil packs,transmission fluid drain and refill. It will need new emergency brake shoes and i found a torn axle boot when doing the tires.(springtime job) Did the work myself. See if i can squeeze another year out of the car.. Has 145,000 miles on it now !

You were a bit unlucky get in on the most finicky model -the R, After 240, 960, 855, V70R, very much yes to self labor, (get a Volvo, become a mechanic) especially for a car designed for execs to compete with Mercs and Lexus (luxury performance), guided toward dealership service, and problematic for mods. '06 VR stock driver here, survivor with dents. Maybe one of 60 in year and color in the US. Not so sure about pricing forecasts. Hope so. The community IS great -has been for decades.

I live in Wisconsin I picked up my 98volvo s70 for 100 dollars and I absolutely love it 320,000 miles still makes 10psi and shifts life a dream great suspension yes the dash makes some noise but that's it.. The whole car works perfectly better than any vehicle I've ever owned by far

In the two years I've owned my S60R these are all the things I've fixed, thankfully I do my own work or I'd be broke and living on the street! 25/9/17 @148000kms *Found Low boost pressure (5psi), *Replaced Turbo Control Valve (TCV), Ops check normal 15psi. *TCM reset. *Removed bonnet insulation. *R&R/Cleaned cabin pollen filter. *Found engine front crankshaft seal oil leak (suspect due lack of use). *Oil level topped up (1 liter 5W-30). *Headlight washer nozzles reconnected. 5/2/18 @150720kms *Dashboard DTC 'Anti-Skid service required' message. Found No communications between REM to DEM modules. AOC low oil level. *AOC Haldex unit serviced, Oil flush & fill, DEM module/pressure sensor/ solenoid replaced. Ops check ok. *TCM reset. *Front L/h floor found wet after rain. Sunroof L/h front drain found kinked. *All drains repaired/cleared nil leaks. Tracks cleaned/lubed. L/h front carpet removed & dried. *R/h mirror delaminated. Mirror glass cleaned & rebonded. *Engine front crankshaft seal reseated, nil oil leaks found. 18/2/18 @152361kms *Front Brakes Discs found 4mm undersized

Paid $2200 ... 2004 turbo v70. 175k miles 5 yrs ago. .you have to turn your own wrenches and get the factory software on a laptop . great car. Parts are cheap. Blew the turbo. Got a new turbo cartridge $185 eBay. Fitted it myself. I'm a baker not mechanic. 250k miles on it now. I live in northern maine. It always starts.

I was in the nyc area and northern nj for 20 years. Yeah great and scenic roads. BUT THE PROBLEM..... Its congested. You can never really drive those roads the way they should be driven. You try and do a touge run even at 3am near bear mountain and you run the risk of hitting a car, person or biker. So kind of a waste. Now that I'm in Texas hill country man i can bomb back roads all I want.

I heard the p2 and a few others were strictly built by volvo even under ford and that ford just used them for their saftey and tech... Recently got a 06 V70 with over 240k runs great and looks like it did in 06 was always maintained only thing is the wheel bearings on the way out. Love it so far!!! Just finished a rebuild on a 2002 XC70. Newer engine and transmission, CV axles. AWD system in great shape and ZERO rust on the car. Been offered huge dollars for it, but not interested. #volvoforlife.

I've owned a 01 V70XC for 6 years. Very comfortable easy to drive car but you are either a Volvo person or become one when you own one. You have to get to know the car and do some of the work yourself. Just taking this car into a shop and saying "fix it" will get you laid away. Some other tips: 1) Change oil often with synthetic oil...dirty oil will clog the pcv system, a huge chore to replace. 2) Use only Volvo spark plugs that are like $10 each. These cars just don't run as good with NGKs, AC Delcos, etc.

The Auto version of the car is Torque Limited, 350 Nm, compared with the Manual gearbox at 400Nm. Peak HP on the auto is at 6000 rpm, and on the manual it's at 5500 rpm.

i own a 2002 v70 ocean race 2.4t with 200hp as my daily and a Ford focus rs Mk2 as a weekend car, you guys in america didnt get that generation but let me tell you its the most fun volvo 5pot experience you could possibly have, ford solved the cracking cylinder wall problems and as this moment its running 350hp just by a stage1, im going to upgrade the intercooler and pump tho and get a mountune 375. The v70 is an awesome car and its the most sold car here in sweden but the focus rs mk2 is seriously a beast

I would add a disclaimer about the reliability comments. If you leave it stock, it's gonna treat you great. If you want to tune it and upgrade... you may have some random gremlins. Fortunately, most of the Volvo community has documented those problems and have shown quick and cheap fixes for most. But yeah, as far as "tuning" or upgrading your volvo, it's highly possible you will have some hiccups. But stick to the scheduled maintenance and you'll be golden if you're staying stock.

One caveat to that, not necessarily. Stock, OEM tunes have been known to crack blocks. There are reports out there of that happening on SwedeSpeed. Overall, yes, but that's pretty unheard of from an OEM perspective.

My parents have a diesel one from 2001, and bought it when i was 2 or 3, great car except for the turning radius and the electronic issues of course, they put 500k kilometres to the counter.

My neighbour had the S80. He bought it new. After 3 years, many electronics started to show their ugly sides and he was left with almost non stop issues for the next 6 months... driving to the VOLVO specialist numerous times. So yes, the 'fine tuning' term you used is accurate...and modern Volvo cars are well known culprits. I have a friend who has a 940 Turbo. Though it is so much older than the S80, it didnt give him the stress and frustrations that happened to the s80 owner. I think the 940 is the last Volvo model that is a reliable workhorse.

Nah V70 from 2000-2007 are probaly the greatest cars Volvo ever made period (Manual no turbo 2.4L 170HP), the Diesel, turbo and Automatic versions have some problems that can get expensive especially the V70R is probaly the most expensive to maintain alongside the 2.5T versions, I own a 2007 2.4L Petrol 170HP with 300 000 KM or 186400 Miles on nothing but oil, spark plug and one camstrap change

This is a beautiful looking V70R. I have an 02 S80 T6 and I'm in New Jersey, also (Essex county). I don't think of it as an old car, though some might. It's middle-aged IMO. This is not a "brick." To me, the bricks are maybe 100 series, 240s, 700/900s. The 850s were sleeker looking, less brick like. The P2s were Volvos departure from brick shapes. This is a wagon with an upright back but the s60 version of it is a very rounded shape.

agree with you about FCP Euro, but what you pay for at the Volvo dealership is lifetime warranty on the parts and the labor. so if you have an issue again just go back and the whole thing is free. I have a 2012 XC70 and love it.

If you haven't rebooted your CVs yet, I recently learned that most grease has a use-by date of 10 years with another 10 years of usability in a sealed environment, which means that if your CV grease came out of the factory spigot at whoever GKN's supplier is and right into your CV boot you still only have five years left until they dry out. Also, those clamped ring clips are best attacked with a reinforced cutting wheel and a Dremel on the flange that keeps the clamp together. Wear your least favorite shirt. I'd set aside at least eight hours if you do wind up committing to the job, and use Molykote G-4700 instead of those GKN grease packs because the grease packs don't have dates on them and they're getting churned through the inventory system without getting pulled by a specific date in my experience. This goes for all booted CVs, but I fear that we're getting into another "lifetime transmission fluid, trust us! Love, Volvo" situation with CV grease given how frequently weird shakes at weird speeds people are reporting on forums after they've swapped out almost all the rotating mass between the transmission and the ground.

I brought a 2005 XC70 back in 2017 with 201k. It's 2019 and I'm at 211k and she is looking and running just as good as any 2019 vehicle on the road, in fact better. Taking my boo, to get her tune up ($295) Sat. Montclair NJ in da house.

My first Volvo was a 1984 245 Turbo wagon. I called it"the Box". Drove it for 20 years, put 289k on it. Changed timing belt once. Living here in CT, where winters really suck and the DOT loves to use salt on the roads, the rear floors and quarter panels started to rot out. By the way, ( Paul Newman went to Sweden to Volvo and ordered a 850 wagon with left hand drive with turbo and manual transmission. Paul Newman may be gone but, his Volvo still lives on from a owner in Portland, CT) This 245 turbo started my love affair with Volvo's. General maintenance and care Volvo's last For ever!, and has allowed me to own 4 more which includes my just bought auction favorite an '04 XC70 with 225k miles that was preowned twice and was maintained religiously by both owners. BTW, the original timing belt and water pump was changed at 190k!, and with the five Volvo's that I owned, not one had any leaks, electrical or mechanical gremlins. I'm Volvo for life!!!

Found one on Facebook for $4,500, but the description says "*SALVAGE TITLE* Front right collision deemed it a total loss but has been fully repaired. The Bad: -The front bumper, hood, and right fender are off of a 2004 model due to the accident -The headlights were also replaced with non-xenon headlights (less of a headache in my opinion) -The 2/3 shift gets a little clunky if the transmission gets super hot. It doesn't happen often enough to bother me. "

My first car was a V70 and I loved it so much. I dont have it around anymore tho :( I do, however, get to drive volvos all day at work. XC70 and V90 especially. V70 will always be my favorite tho.

I had a 2001 Volvo V70 T5 for a few years that nickeled and dimed me to death. Great looking car and comfortable to drive but when the time came to move it along (needed a turbo), I looked for something to replace it with that still could accommodate my dogs. That V70 was my 6th Volvo and 4th wagon. Took a test drive in a V70 R that was for sale locally and really like the appearance and color combination, but the maintenance reputation of the model stopped me from buying. Eventually I found a great deal on a P3 platform V70 R-Design. Found it on the internet. The V70 R-Design was a one year only (2010) import and they only imported 334 US models so were pretty hard to find so a lot rarer than the earlier V70 R is that's your bag. Of course, it's got the usual 3.2 6 cylinder but it's a rock solid engine. It handles better than the two BMWs I had so I sold them. I'm at the age now where any more HP than it has would just make me act like a kid again (one reason I sold the M5). My R-Design had 185k miles on it when I bought it but had a full history of dealer only maintenance and was a one owner. I replaced the wheels and tires, with different Volvo wheels, did new brakes, and had to replace the ignition switch and that's about it. Since I'm retired now it's primarily a dog hauler and used mostly around town but has killer AC which makes everyone happy here in Alabama. Always been a fan of the Volvo wagons.

i had a Volvo 850 turbo 1995. i kept it for 22 years. i loved that car but it had problems. the A/C kept failing, other things kept failing, etc.. and it was always at least $1,000 to fix anything. i finally gave it to my brother in law when it would no longer start due to the wires to the starter rotting off. He sold it for $400 along with a typed list of the dozens of things wrong with it.
