It's about psych meds, in particular SSRIs for depression. They increase the amount of serotonin, a neural transmitter. Side effects can include an emotional "numbness" and feelings of detachment. Sertraline, brand name Zoloft, is a popularly prescribed SSRI. Thus Chinchilla's opening line "sertraline and a sip of serotonin, don't cry 'cause there's a pill for everything." "The feeling goes as you draw a chalk outline." Yes, walking around dead on the inside is what he's saying.

He's singing about the effect the drug chinchilla mentioned had on him when he was prescribed it. He lost all feeling and it was just like he was a chalk outline of a person.

It´s about medical drugs and depression, Chinchilla names the drugs, both for depression, Ren was prescribed all kinds of drugs while he was misdiagnosed, And he is describing loosing part of himself, walking around like a kind of living-dead, empty, a chalk outline, relying on the drugs and being afraid to break free from them and experience the mental pain,, although that is what he needs to do to be the real him and fully alive.

Sertraline is an antidepressant; specifically an SSRI. These are known to have side effects for some that make you feel numb, or dead on the inside. This is all about how depression/anxiety and the problems one runs into with treatment. That said, one could apply the same concept to self medicating, so it all applies.

The meaning of the song is blatantly evident in the words, Citrulline and Serotonin. Even without those 2 words, it does not take much comprehension to understand the song is about prescription medication for depression etc.... You may not have realised yet, but in Ren's songs, every single word is there for a reason and has meaning. Sometimes a word will have 2 or 3 meanings. Miss a word, and you often miss the point of the topic. It helps to pay close attention to what is sung, as well as to how it is sung, as well as how well he plays the instrument of choice for the song, as well as the surroundings, as well as how good their voices are, as well as.....!!

Not saying you are wrong but just FYI as the person that did the subs to this, they were fully approved by Ren before he uploaded them (not that I haven't made mistakes before!) I was also taking into account the previous lines about drawing chalk outlines and sometimes there is the odd word or two that is different between the studio and live versions; just went with what I heard¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I got 'aligned' and 'are lying' mixed up, on 'The Tale of Jenny and Screech' so who knows. Did my best 🤣
