Sky News contributor Steve Price says Melbourne is a “shambles” compared to Sydney.
Mr Price’s remarks come as the Victorian capital came in third place on the EIU’s global liveability index this year, just beating out Sydney, which was ranked fourth.
Mr Price said Lord Mayor of Melbourne Sally Capp rushed to get on camera on Seven’s Sunrise show on Thursday to discuss the ranking.
“What an embarrassment she is and what a joke these lists are,” he said.
“For Sally Capp to idiotically claim ‘we are back baby’ is an absolute embarrassment.”

I am a Sydneysider, and I have an anecdote about a time I spent in Melbourne. In Sydney in the late 1980's, everybody just got on with living their lives. Life was good. Then I went to Melbourne for a week, and I was blown way. Every newspaper and every TV broadcast was saturated with comparisons between Sydney and Melbourne, and all of them were about how Melbourne was better than Sydney. Every day. Melbourne does this or that better than Sydney. I was astounded. How could the entire media of a city become so enamoured with trying to show how they were better than Sydney? Madness, desperation, delusion or real, I couldn't tell. And I see it here, again in the comments, only now the comparisons go both ways. Forget the comparison, just get on with your lives.

I think you've really exaggerated that. Those sort of articles come up in the media occasionally, there was never a 'saturation' of it. Nor is there now.

Melbourne is a book - a novel - you need to actually invest time to read it. It has been this way for over 150 years. It can also be a closed book too - if you do not make a huge effort to get into Melbourne, you won't get a social life in Melbourne. In Syndey it is easy to have so many friends. Sydney is in contrast to Melbourne, the movie of the book; better looking, more special FX, everyone is your friend, everyone is sexy and superficial.

Sydney is pretty bad. Just yesterday "one" person called in sick and the entire Rail network was called to a halt. Seriously, pathetic, millions of people were late for hours and lining up for replacement buses because "One" safety officer called in sick for the station. How is it possible a muiltbillion dollar rail network screw up because " one " person called in sick. There was no contingency for such cases.
