What's truly abhorrent to me is that there doesn't appear to be a single federal politician wanting to speak out about this travesty. But is it surprising? No . . . not really. How can something that cost people their own lives, something that was openly declared as being criminal in nature be so emphatically swept under the political rug? I can only surmise that they are all corrupt and don't want to make problems for the members of the former government and bureaucrats who assisted them in committing these crimes against innocent citizens.

My anger at present is with Albanese and his government not seeing this through to its proper conclusion. If the Royal Commission made recommendations for prosecutions to be undertaken that this is what should have happened. Politicians and bureaucrats have managed to weave for themselves a blanket of immunity, preventing justice to be meted out for those who suffered needlessly under this illegal practice. And every day that passes that no criminal proceedings are announced amounts to a growing shame for this government and for its predecessor.

At this point I'd be surprised if they do much at all except be the face of government and corrupt any rules that may make them accountable in anyway and throw some public servants under the bus instead. The big 4 accounting firms seem to do all the work for them while they prance around wasting more money. Since 2004 any new ministers no longer receive pensions for life thanks to Mark Latham of all people even though he himself still gets 70k per year, They get a better superannuation deal instead. We had Costello telling everyone they were going to have to work till you drop back in 2017 saying we couldn't afford the pension anymore while he receives around 180k each year. Not sure exactly how much the age pension is but I don't think its much more than 20k per year.

Despite Labour's initial rhetoric around it remaining open and transparent, they and the LNP came together to ensure everything would happen behind closed doors and gag orders. @@TrentRidley Tasmania copped the same deal from Labor and Liberal. About 20 years ago the then Labor Government created the "Tasmanian Integrity Commission". It was meant to educate all levels of public service from dog catchers to court justices that taking 'gifts' from sleazy spivs was in fact, wrong. The Commission has virtually no powers of investigation, has never convicted a politician, and last time I looked they had only had one prosecution of a public servant in the previous five years. The Commission's 'leaders' have occasionally complained that they have little authority to actually do anything beyond occupying office space, yet successive Liberal and Labor governments have done ZERO to make any improvements. It's a complete SCAM, and everyone knows it. The corruption of Tasmanian politicians, past and present is legend, and they all know that if there were any Crime Commission with real 'teeth', then pretty much every state Premier back to Doug Lowe (in 1981) would be investigated for bribes from the forestry, salmon fisheries, and tourism sectors (read Federal Hotels for this one). The DLP never died in Tasmania. The 'Establishment' is well and truly running this joint. Shame really; so much lost potential. Have fun!! 😃
