Yeah the previous generations from Ford, Dodge (Ram) and Chevy looks better than the newer ones. More robust and rugged like you say.

My guess is the lifters went out and with that mileage might as well replace the engine since a lifter job is about 3k in parts and labor unless you do it yourself
