When parking in direct sunlight,make sure to use a windshield shade. Otherwise there's a good chance that the color will bubble up and peel off. Then you're dashboard will look like crap. I'm from WA. and it rains about 9 months out of the year here. We don't get blazing hot summers usually. I guess it's hot enough to make it peel though. It's like GM used plasti-dip on the dash.

My Top 5 issues with this model: 1) The Chevy Shake: This is a frame design flaw. GM recommends keeping 250lbs in bed. 2) Accessory belt slip and squeal: Simply use Armour All or tire shine on the backside of belt. 3) DOD 5.3 L engine consumes a ton of oil: Reprogram engine to not go into 4 cylinder mode. 4) Brakes can be very week and hard to push pedal. (Rear drum models): Master cylinder booster swap. 5) Water entry in rear doors: Pull plug from bottom of doors and let it always drain out. Bonus complaint: Rear fender wells in bed rot out if not sprayed inside via tail light removal.

What are symptoms of a bad oil pressure sensor? I have an 09 Silverado 5.3...makes a small knocking sound when I first start it for about a minute then goes away, and sometimes when I want to accelerate it will kind of hesitate. Oil pressure gauge reads over 40 psi on startup, then fluctuates in the 30s while I drive. I thought that seemed kind of high. Thank you.

He is right about the steering position sensor. I hit a nasty hole in the road and took my truck (2010 Silverado LS) to an independent shop to get it aligned. After driving for about 10 mins back home, I got the annoying orange triangle for the Stabilitrak system. Took it back and after several attempts, they could not figure it out and credit me back the alignment and diagnostic cost. I went to the dealer and they said it was the steering position sensor. OK but one big problem. GM does not make the 6 pin sensor for the 2nd gen anymore; they only make the 8 pin for the 3rd gen and up. I mentioned that the steering wheel was not at the 12 o'clock position when driving straight. They aligned it and got the steering wheel back. No more annoying orange triangle. If anyone has this problem make sure your steering wheel is at the 12 o'clock position when driving straight and you have a good alignment done before checking for any other causes that make the Service Stabilitrak light come on.

Disable the cylinder deactivation and you'll probably never have problems with the lifters,or oil consumption issues. For everyone, the high oil consumption is actually by design. It’s the Automatic Fuel Management AFM. When the AFM shuts off the 4 cylinders, it squirts a little extra oil into those valves to keep them lubricated. When they start back up, that oil is burnt. I had that problem along with carbon buildup on those four spark plugs from the extra oil. I got an AFM disabler, with keeps it in V8 and it fixed those problems. I lost a mile or two in gas mileage, but the truck runs so much smoother and the power is instantaneous on acceleration.

excellent video! I've a Cheyenne 2013, the problems that i had; 1) it eats a lot of engine oil, like half a quart every month. 2) I've replace the oil pressure switch. 3) It has a P0121 (without power reduction) related to throttle body & every time i clean it (taking care of not opening obturator) the CEL goes away but the idle stays high during days even weeks while relearn procedure. a couple of moths later, P0121 always comes back. 4) Some days ago started to hear whine noise while desaccelerating, i check the diff & pinion seal was leaking, while replacing it, the 32mm pinion nut came out by hand, so i couldn't torque back to 14 in/pound the preload, my torque wrench don't measure until 10 ft/pound & a couple of hours driving the whine sound came back, so i think the bearing preload is wrong. • Instead of those problems, truck has been running good. excellent Video as always, Cheers from Cancún!

I have an 08 Silverado LT. I bought a year ago and it had 140K on it. The previous owner took very good care of this truck and so far, the maintenance that’s been done is normal wear and tear given the age of the truck. The only thing I’ve done outside of normal maintenance is that I purchased an AFM disabler to stop the engine from shifting back and forth from 4 cyl to 8 cyl. That $200 purchase made all the difference in the world. This truck drives like a dream. I’ve only put 6K miles on this truck because I van pool to work plus I have another car. So at this rate I expect it will last me for a long time.

@chevyon37s3 жыл бұрын
Truth, but instead of the silly range device get an actual tune on the truck and get the AFM disabled that way as well as firm up and change shift points, and throttle sensitivity. I hated the way my truck drove before that. Now I love it, it performs and drives much better after the black bear tune even though I did give up some mpg. 122k miles so far on my 2012 1500 and it’s needed nothing. Bought it with 74k miles and changed every fluid, leveled it and better shocks, tires, and LED lights and it’s everything I need. Well everything except it’s got the stupid 3.08 gears in it, but those are getting swapped out.

@@chevyon37s that’s exactly what I did. I bought the AFM disabler and that was a game changer for my 08 Silverado which had 140K on it when I bought it a year ago. Since I have another vehicle and I van pool to work, I’m only averaging about 6000 miles a year so at this rate, I expect this truck to last me a long time as long as I continue to keep it serviced at the proper intervals.

Stay away from 08 and 14, best were 11,12 in that clump of time, they all had afm though. Ways to disengage that nowadays though, leave your truck in fifth gear or plug-in a afm disabler

Mines at 160,000 still running perfect other than basic maintenance and of course the oil consumption get a range device to disable afm

Are these trucks good? Is the active fuel management not good on these or cylinder fuel deactivation or whatever the call it a issue? I'm looking to buy a 2010 silverado ltz 4x4 with 97000 miles soon.
@rustyshackelford76513 жыл бұрын
Yea they're good. You can disable the AFM easily. Not many other issues. Might have an oil leak that will be a little pricey to fix and often the exhaust manifold bolts break so it leaks at the head. Can be pricey but you can bandaid it with clamp brackets. Spending 2k in repairs after 150k isn't that unreasonable. Probably will need a few things tho once you hit 150k and beyond
@countryboy95664 ай бұрын
You forgot to mention the oil pressure sensor sometimes it can be a dirty screen or some times if the motor gets high miles everything loosens up and makes it so the pick up has less oil pressure but it’s an easy fix either clean or replace the screen or do high flow oil filter

2012 damn stability track / traction control light lol I just lived with it for the pass 5 years. The door handles outside cheap replaced 2 times 1 is broken right now 🤦♂️ and a broken side door panel from jumping in and out of the truck because I lifted it and refuse to pay for running boards 😅 well with that being said I'm been blessed this truck has never gave me engine problems just recently 2022 the oil light looks like it's going to be just a censor problem 🤞 . So besides the noise 🙄 now for being old its been a trooper.

My 2009 is going strong. I do need to replace the brake light switch. Occasionally the cruse will not work. I don’t drive the truck on the interstate enough to fix it.
@toml86412 жыл бұрын
A little late on my comment but i just had this other issue with the brake light switch. My switch had all the other symptoms you mentioned, Cruise, brake lights staying on. What happened in my case was when i was pulling my camper, because the brake light switch would not fully disengage , it made my trailer brakes (electric)not completely disengage because it was still sending power to the brake controller. Dang near had a fire on the trailer brakes.. Hope this helps someone else. Something to keep in mind..

My truck is a 2008 1500 Silverado 4.3 the biggest thing that has happened to mine is most of the time you don't hear the audible sound of the blinker and two of speakers don't work most of the time but it only has 56,000 miles on it.

New subscriber here. Excellent content. I’ve had the thumping noise that you described for a while and have noticed my steering has become a little stiffer. I will get that checked out. My question is this, suddenly my 2009 Chevy Silverado, Z 71 radio comes on and off intermittently. Also, the air condition comes on and off, but not as frequent as the radio. I also noticed that the voltage meter seems to move up from 12, but it never dropped below 12. Can you tell me where the problem is on my truck. Thank you!

With out even watching I have some.... the cold start lifter knock, the cheap plastic dash boards that so many are broken all in the same places it should be looked at as a manufacture defect on everyone of these models. Also should have never taken away the stepping cut outs in the back bumper, only to bring them back on later models. This model of Chevy/GMC is their worst.

One thing missing that I've heard about these models is the audio system is a little cheap so the speakers or radio will short out after about a year. Personally my front door speakers come on and off time to time. Rn only my driver door isnt working

Top problems from a insider.all manufacturers put design flaws into new vehicles to insure they don't last too long and you come back for a new car every 5 years.dirty pool for sure.and most don't last that long.my 2010 mustangs waterpump went out at 33000 miles.and I'm not the only one.and that's not the only flaw.cabin air filter is strategically placed where drain holes easily stop up causing water to come in car and flood Floorplan as well as damage blower fan and electronics.so now I drive a 72 chevy truck and a 66 caprice.restored and no issues of the modern crap their selling.and they get as good mileage as newer vehicles ive had.avoid the new car racket that involves the dealership. The insurance companies with all their stupid commercials that we skip past.the body repair shops and mechanic shops.and parts suppliers are all in bed together against us.all of them.especially in macon ga.criminal fraud on a gigantic level.dont be their victim.

I have a 2009 Silverado 4.3 v6 and it’s rotting away. I’ve replaced two brake sensor switches, throttle position switch, all o2 sensors, cleaned out throttle body, replaced a rotted rim, and now my check engine light is on again and meter said it’s a emissions issue so Inwas told the gas cap may need to be replaced but I did and a year later it’s still on! The glove box handle broke, the ignition is messed up and I can drive it while the key gets pulled out and I need to pull key out a n eighth of an inch to start it. Now I’m hearing a thud from driver front end when I take off quickly. It just never ends. I swear as soon as I fix one thing another issue pops up. After I run it into the ground I will never buy another Chevy truck. Engine is good thank god. Oh also the hood won’t stay closed.😖😖

Cheaper cylinder deactivation fix… keep it in 3rd gear in areas under 80kmph or 2200 rpm as it stays in v8 mode. Hold traction control button until stabilitrak turns off along with traction control for max drifting control
