My old roommate wanted a husky because they looked like wolves, so she got a female husky puppy. I assume that she knew almost nothing about their temperament and she was the worst dog trainer I've ever seen. She tried so many different ways to train this dog, but never stuck to anything so nothing ever stuck. The dog ruined our house because she wasn't potty trained and my roommate would let her run around the house all day because she was destructive if kept in confinement. My roommate would hold back food and water to the dog so she couldn't use the bathroom in the house because she had nothing in her system. She would also use the bathroom in her kennel which pissed off my roommate because it made her room smell. Her solution to this was to get a cage so small that the dog couldn't defecate in it even if she wanted to. At one point my roommate would actually drug the dog (with those calming pills for dogs) just to make her slightly tolerable. The dog was an absolute nightmare all because of my roommate and her ignorance. My roommate would be gone all day and have less than 3 hours a day with this dog. It ruined our friendship and made me realize how incompetent my roommate was. She ended up giving the dog away as a "therapy dog" to some veteran when she wasn't even a year old yet. Also, at some point during us living together in this house, she had a leopard gecko that she never took care of. She had a (what I thought was) proper habitat for it, but would never refill it's food, water, or wet hide. She said she didn't bother feeding it because it didn't want to eat because it was dying. At one point I felt so bad for the poor thing that I took it's cage and completely cleaned and scrubbed it out. While I was doing this, I was feeding it earthworms and mealworms and had it wrapped in a damp, warm towel. It wasn't too long after that (maybe days) that I believed it to be dead in its cage. It was nothing but skin and bones by this point. I never mentioned it to my roommate, and a month later she told me that he died. Yes I realize that I COULD HAVE taken care of this animal because my roommate wasn't, but by this point she was so annoyed with me hounding her about her pets, that I didn't want to make living there any more miserable than what it was. I contacted our landlord multiple times, but nothing ever came out of it. Fast forward 6+ months, and my roommate then got a chocolate lab puppy. She thought she was being a better pet owner because the dog was more receptive to her commands, but it still wasn't good. The dog was okay up until it was a year old and it started acting out more and more, just like the husky. She started to lock this dog up for long periods of time too and his behavior got worse and more destructive. At this point, I wasn't talking to her much and I was only hearing about the dog whenever she brought him up. The dog almost died multiple times due to poisoning because she wouldn't supervise him outside and wouldn't ensure that he couldn't get into dangerous objects. Not too soon after he turned 1, she gave him to her dad who lives on a farm to be an outdoor dog. (Random note: At one point she also "rescued" a pitbull that was super destructive, in which she sent to this same farm. The pitbull would soon die of either poisoning or from a coyote, I can't remember which.) Now this girl has an English mastiff and 3 cats. The dog was strictly an outdoor dog at a horse ranch, but the owner gave her to this girl for some reason. She tells me that this dog is perfectly behaved and not an issue; I don't know if I believe this. She is and was an incredibly irresponsible pet owner and it pains me to have witnessed what all her animals went through. Sorry for the super long paragraphs, but that's just how it be sometimes.

My reaction to this O.o it isn't your responsibility to care for them, so you're not at fault for what happened to them. She needed to care for them and she didn't. If you would to have stepped in and done stuff, she could have taken advantage of that which would have been more stressful on you. But thanks for sharing with us your story. It's so heart breaking to hear that. Especially the shuffling around of animals. I have ex friends for a reason who use to treat their animal as if it wasn't living and breathing & not spend time with them or killed their dogs because they forgot to check on them or fed them chocolate (this was like 10+ years ago). Finally got tired of their attitudes and never talked to them again. Animals can't always fend for themselves. We need to understand that we need to be there for them otherwise their life is short, it's sad and they can suffer.

Huskies are vastly different than wolves lol. They are much smaller for starters. The closest thing she could legally own (depending on where she lives) is a wolfdog, but I recommend her to not own any animals at all lol. Aaaanyway, you shouldn't feel guilt over any of it, because they were not your responsibility. If it was your choice to get them, I am sure you would have taken good care of them. Also, with the gecko, at least you can say you tried.

This is so much like someone I live with she has had so many animals including hamsters that were kept in terrible cages and housed with other different hamsters because she thought it took up to much space so she put them together. She had rabbits which have gotten Ill a lot And fight. She had a yorkie cross which she got rid of at the age of one because she diddent want to pay the vet bills once it broke it's leg. She then got a male Labrador which would knock over bins run away constantally and bark she never once bothered training the animals and she never spent any time with them and they would be stuck in small areas. A couple months later she got a female Kelpie cross never bothered getting them spayed or neutered and she gave them away after they had puppies. I once had to step in and we got in a massive fight because she got angry and hit her dog. She would get angry at me any time I did anything for them because they weren't mine and I wasent allowed even petting them. I would wake up at 6 to walk them before I had to leave at eight when she was still asleep. She started trying to breed her rabbits so that she could earn money for a drawing tablet but her rabbit died and she still has the male which is kept in a tiny crate outside and doesent get fed veggies or anything extra. I got kicked out of home at 14 and had no choice but to move in with them I am now 18 and am trying to move out but it's not easy she also has the nerve to tell me that my pets are "just animals" and that they don't need what I give them and that I spend to much time and I'm wasting my money on them and tries to tell me what to do as I have a lot of pets that are taken care off the best possible way. This same person is now looking for a kitten, rats (even tho I'm alergic to them she doesent care) and a bird. I am hoping she doesent get them but there is nothing I can do so I understand how it feels living like that.

Just hoping we can educate them on animal care or encourage others to know what they're first getting themselves into. If they don't have all the answers upon buying a pet, then we have failed when they go to rehome them with improper care. If petstore employees who sell the animal won't tell the person buying them or if the customer doesn't listen when they demand for a pet, we've failed our beloved animals here on earth. We must do better for the sake of their lives. :'(

i was in the pet store the other day and a woman and her daughter came in and bought a new hamster cage. The cashier asked if they were looking to buy one and they said "We were in a few days ago and got two hamsters. They have started fighting so we are separating them." and even tho it was frustrating that they got two and housed them together, they did the responsible thing. The guy thought I was clueless and told me the carrier I brought wasn’t a cage (no shit) i told him, “sir, the home for this syrian is over 2,000 square inches so don’t try telling me how to care for him when you didn’t even know his correct breed name.” (I should’ve just quizzed him on wheel sizes and bedding but oh well.)Then a mom and daughter come up and the girl says she wants a hamsters and the mom says well a cage like that is fine cuz its small (talking about our carrier).... the employee said nothing. This "rehoming because I got a new pet" is exactly what I was talking about in your previous video. It's just so sad how some people see and treat animals as if they were mere things that can go from home to home like a second hand sofa. It makes me sad and angry. These people selling the gecko will be selling the ferret in a couple of months if they see say a sugar glider or a guinea pig. These people have no feelings but the animals they are giving away do and they derserve better :(

Well lets hope the ferret is getting the attention it needs. It seemed that way from the way the boyfriend was rehoming the gecko. Ferrets are much like cats or rats, they are needy and social and must be played with on a regular basis with long time interactions daily instead of short sessions. This could be the reason why they had to rehome the gecko. It's sad...and annoying...and i think possibly the GF didn't tell her BF about it...but now they're stuck with a choice to rehome. Possibly an impulse ferret buy and a BF's decision to sacrifice his beloved pet for hers. It just stinks. Other than that the BF seemed to care for his gecko and his enclosure was fine. But it still is saddening. :(

It really kills me when these 'I don't have time' ads are for animals that don't require that much time. Most people with lizards have thermostats and lights on a timer, which means that as long as you clean their enclosure and give them food and water and misting as needed, you're good. There's not that much time being pulled away from the ferret.

I understand where these people are coming from personally. It really depends on what's going on in their lives. I mean I work 2 jobs and i really just come home, sleep, get up, work, repeat. And I have 14 pets. I really do have to push myself that extra mile to make sure everything gets done besides food and water. Sometimes I dont even get around to cleaning my mouse cages for up to 2 weeks. Luckily my mice aren't that messy and have designated areas they like to do certain things in. But people that dont have that will power, will find it extremely hard to force themselves to do something for their pet after a busy schedule. That's why I'm glad they do rehome. Because then the pet goes to someone who does have the time and willpower to take care of them rather than suffering

@MunchiesPlace
@MunchiesPlace 6 жыл бұрын
No shame in that, my Bettas i got from my petstore too even tho i prefer to adopt and not shop. Betta's for rehome are rare. I'm more focused on the small animals in Shelters or on CL who need rehomes due to a sudden move or neglect. However there has been a few aggressive dwarfs that have been at my local petco for a long time and no one wants them due to their aggressive behavior. It's hard when you can't do anything about it...knowing you shouldn't be putting money into the pockets of corporations who only care about their cat/dog customers and neglect their live animals such as reptiles, birds and small animals (Of course the fish too). It just sucks in general that most people don't value the lives of pets as much. :*( But both Petco and Petsmart have adoption programs within their store so you can always ask them about adoptable small animals. None of the proceeds go to the store itself. Petco's donation goes towards their charity and petsmart gives the animals away for free. However i like petco much more since they take in surrenders and adopt them out where as petsmart's adoptable animals are their way of "Cleaning out their inventory" of any old, sickly or problematic critters. That's how i got Hannibal my Robo. But i 100% agree, i wish they would stop selling live animals if their focus is not on their care.

Actually the petsmart animals sold today come from a different distributor then all the "horror stories " everyone is all freaked out about. When petsmart found out what was happening to those animals they changed distributors immediately. Every animal who comes in to petsmart is kept for 3 days for observation and at the first sign of possible illness they are taken to a vet either in store or an exotic vet clinic.
@MunchiesPlace
@MunchiesPlace 6 жыл бұрын
Both petco and petsmart stopped using Holmes Farm back in 2016 and are using a different supplier. But they're still getting them from breeding mills with similar processes. Unfortunately with the high demands of animals being bought in store, they need to keep breeding more and if the store in general demands for more, they will send often too young or sickly animals to these stores. The process of shipping them to each state to then be sorted out in a center to only be shipped out again to the individual stores will make most animals sick from the stresses of shipping, especially hamsters who have wet tail upon receiving them. This is a good reason why people shouldn't buy from these stores live animals knowing that some of their current suppliers are on the east coast. I do know that petsmart does have a supplier in CA. Petco's supplier is from NC for their small animals & recently stopped using an old supplier that i think had the name sun in the title. Even if the mill has better standards, you're still supporting the practice of mass production of these animals instead of getting them from an ethical breeder which there tends to be very few because of these big chain pet stores. And then there is also the thought of the store itself and who's working there. Since i too work in a petstore, i can tell you half of our team loves and respects animals and then the other half wouldn't care less if they died and have taken their job that they have for granted and mistreat the animals. HR doesn't seem to care either which is a big problem i'm starting to see pop up in not just my store but many others. So customers may not know this and purchase an animal at a store, not knowing how it was taken care of. It's just an endless cycle with no one knowing what's best for an animal, only what is best for business. :(

What is wrong with people.. have they never been taught that pets are not replaceable objects? I'll just replace my betta every time I see one I like better. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 Edit: I did mess up when I was a junior in high school though. I didn't have enough room for two guinea pigs but I desperately wanted something to cuddle. A lady at the pet store let me hold the girl I got (Fiona) and she was super sweet and loving. She was skittish but still let me hold her and got used to me. I took care of her really well but after a couple months I could tell she was depressed. I found a good website solely dedicated to rehoming guinea pigs. I found a dad who was looking for a female guinea pig to live with the one they had. I charged $20, and gave them the entire cage so they could keep her in there until she bonded with their guinea pig. I also gave them all her toys, hides, the rest of her food, hay, and treats, and the rest of the necessities like her water bottle. I lost over $100 easy on this, but if you're rehoming an animal and actually care about them, you'll have no problem taking a huge loss. If you make a mistake it's so important to then make sure they get to a good place!

Its really dangerous. Russian dwarf dont accept and syrian dont accept other hamsters aroumd them most of the time. Robos only if they are from the same species and also that can go wrong. It's difficult to keep hammies in groups. I have robo group, but I have to take 1 out of it because she was attacked. Now I have split up the whole group. They say that robos van go together but that is not always the case. Sometimes they can go together for weeks but then it go wrong later on. It gives them a lot of stress to be with an other dominant hamster. Dominant hamsters will attack the other ones if he/she wants the food first for example. The wounds are not always clearly visible. Robos are small and the wounds can be at their tale or small ears or nose. Now I have a robo couple female/male and they are really sweet together, but I am always paying attention, because the robo female group did not really work that well. They had a amazing big cage with all kinds of nice toys and a 2 big wheels. Hidingspots. Russian dwarfs(winter white?) Are sometimes kept together, but I would not recommend that at all. They normally go find female and male to get babies but they dont live in groups. Campbelli hamsters which is also a dwarfhamster could go together. That one looks like a russian dwarf(winter white), but is a different species. Campbelli and winter whites are are being mixed so they get hybrides. Syrian hamsters are NOT allowed to be with 2 or more. In shops the syrian hamsters are still very young and then its possible that they will not attack each other yet, but they will when they grow up. Also for winter whites

I hate the ignorance of some people, I cannot count how many times I’ve seen a child get bored of a pet. Children do not have a attention span. If you adopt an animal with the purpose of entraining your child you better be sure that they will take care of it, or you better take care of it. Or better yet don’t buy a child an animal. Especially something that requires more time and effort then you have. For example, a man brought a hedgehog in and demanded we take it. We don’t have a cage or supply’s for hedgehog so we denied him. Apparently he bought it for his son but the son got bored of the animal quickly. I listed animals shelters that take hedgehogs but he told me that he didn’t want to wast the gas and told me to take the hedgehog there. I said no I cannot do that and he stomped away madly, pushing over a stand on his way out.

When I was 7, I begged my parents to let me get my own kitten, and after agreeing to lots of pet ownership responsibilities, I got my baby from a good shelter. 10 years later and I have the strongest bond possible with that stinker. I don’t agree with not letting children have pets, because it’s a great way for them to learn empathy and understanding of all living creatures, but let them pick out the animal at least.

There could be 1000's of reasons why someone is rehoming their pet, but that's where speculation comes into place since we may never know the true story. I speculate reasons due to past experiences with dealing with rescuing and rehomes. (Side note: IF you're unfamiliar with my channel, i rescue and foster Cats & small animals). Thank your for reading this before leaving a comment. I appreciate it. :) Common Questions Made Against videos such as these: - Why are you talking about this instead of doing something? I'm a Rescue/Foster Home if you're new to my Channel. I rescue hamsters and cats off of CL often. What are you doing about your local CL Ads or Shelters? Can you be doing something to help them? - Why show animal neglect? I'm spreading awareness and encouraging people to adopt, not shop & to encourage people to do their research first. Many ads you may see are people not doing their research or caring enough before rehoming the animal which can appear to be in poor conditions. Just like how Veterinarians show on their FB page why it's important to spay their cats/dogs to avoid a painful uterus disease that can kill their pets, it's the same thing with these videos where i show pictures. It's Awareness. IF YOU ARE NOT AWARE, how is anything going to change the practices of which humans keep making? If we keep making mistakes, how are we going to change this? How will people know? We share BECAUSE WE CARE! And i care a great deal to pass down wisdom and knowledge to my younger generations so they don't make these same mistakes! PS: Oxbow is not good food for hamsters/gerbils in their two formulas. They're a good company for Guinea pigs, rabbits, rats but unfortunately their nutrtional standards in their food for these two species of animals is bad. So me saying this is incorrect and i retract my statement around 6:10.

Hamster Hideout forums is a good website to look at along with YT videos talking about hamsters and their care are a great start. I don’t see why it’s so hard to take care of an animal JUST because you got another one. I could understand a little bit if you got a new high-maintenance pet AND have work/school, but even then it’s just such a selfish thing to do. Some of these people don’t deserve pets. P.S: as a side note, it’s cool finding KZbinrs from my state. That is all

Libby Gee exactly! I had my two dogs forever, then had a hamster and a gerbil when I had my son. Guess what it wasn’t hard to give all my pets and son the attention they all needed and deserved. Then I took in a cat that was gonna be taken to the shelter for the simple fact that she was a senior cat and the original owners just didn’t want her any more because of her age. People just use it as excuses.

As a snake lover and owner if you want snakes that can be housed together get garter snakes. They do well in small groups and love to bask with year lamps! Making a naturalistic set up can be fun and look nice. Just know they give " live birth" so if you don't want babies it's best to avoid keeping males and females together.
@CloudsAndDays

darkdragoneclipse Also do not keep males and females together if you have different types of garters as hybrids tend to be infertile or may cause the mother some issues during birth. It’s alright if they’re the same sex however, they should still get along fine and may even become friendlier as they grow used to being touched by other things!

I seriously don’t understand how people could so easily rehome their little family members. I struggled so hard in having to rehome my fish and hamsters as a child because they were my buddies that I had for over a year. We were moving and driving all the way across the country so I know that the fish and hamsters wouldn’t have done well in those conditions. We did take our cat and being with her in a car and hotels for nearly a month (my dad likes to take scenic routes and make a lot of stops) was quite the experience but I’m glad my parents didn’t once consider rehoming her too.

What you said about kill shelters is so right!! I remember in high school I had a friend who let his cat get pregnant (this was the second time) and tried to give me one of the kittens. My mom was gonna let me keep one but when I went to go look the kitten was like two weeks old when he was marketing it as two months old! I said no and told him the kitten needs to stay with it’s mom and siblings but then when he couldn’t find a home for it in a week he dropped them all off at the shelter. I was so pissed with him especially when I asked why would he keep letting his cat have babies and not spay her and he said cause the kittens are cute smh. Not to mention all the kittens had fleas. Needless to say we are not friends anymore.

My corn snake I got from a girl that was keeping him under her dorm bed. In college.On a cold, tile floor in a bin. It's so painful to see how much people mistreat their animals. I know sometimes people have genuine reasons to give up their pets but most of the time these reasons are ridiculous. I don't understand how people can so frivolously give up their pets. Once I get an animal it's with me for the rest of its life no matter what, and of course, if something drastic came up and I wasn't able to care for them anymore I'd want to do what's best for them and give them up, but that sort of situation for me is SO unlikely to come up as I always do my research and therefore know how much attention and care these animals need. My two guineapigs Tilly and Penelope passed away fairly recently, they were both around 5-6 years old and I miss them so much. All animal cruelty is so awful to see but there's something about people mistreating their guineapigs in particular that gets me furious, probably because of how attached I was to mine and how much research I put into caring for them. The sight of those giant 'guineapig' balls made me feel genuinely sick. Poor babies.

the way you spoke about re homing at shelters vs CL made so much sense to me with the way you have explained it, in from a country where they dont have CL and after looking on it and watching this video you can see a lot of cases people do just want to get rid for not very good reasons, i also find it crazy how in the US they have kill shelters? as where im from they keep the animal untill re homed and i find it so sad people would just kill these animals just because theyre up for adoption
@MunchiesPlace
@MunchiesPlace 6 жыл бұрын
High Kill shelters kill them because they have. It's overpopulation where people refuse to spay/neuter their dog or cat & they have unexpected litters. The shelter is given a limited amount of funding and staff and due to too many dogs/cats on the streets or have been given up by owners, that they cannot house them all in shelters. That's why there are time limits. It's a sad reality we live in but if you need to get mad at someone, get mad at your one neighbor who lets her unspayed cat wander outside...unspayed and waiting for a male to come along and mess her up. Educating people on why it's important helps. If they don't like seeing kill shelters but still support the idea of their cat not getting spayed, that's just ironic. I hope one day we can end the kill shelters, control the overpopulation of cats and dogs and reverse the damage done.

Munchie's Place I agree, the first thing I have always done with my animals is get the spayed, I find it crazy that people wouldn’t ? I understand it’s an expensive thing to have done (where I’m from anyway) but If people get a pet it should be one a the first things people think about when buying an animal/ adopting one, I think it’s something I will never personally understand as to why people don’t as it’s something I believe should almost always be done, and it blows my mind also how people put a male and female together and not expect them to mate, like what do they expect to happen it’s animal nature

And they of course fought so she asked my mother if I would be willing to take it because she didn’t want to take it back to the pet store. I was so angry to hear about this so I took the hamster in and informed the owners about proper care. I’m not sure if they listened but the hamster they gave me now lives in a 40 gallon breeder tank and is the sweetest hamster I’ve every had.

So happy to hear there was at least a happy ending. Glad you took the little one in and gave it a good home. People have it in their minds that returning it to a petstore is wrong, but in reality most of the time the petstore will gladly take it back since they have the resources to care for it. Trying to rehome a small animal is quite hard on both the person rehoming and the pet. But hopefully they listened to you about the proper care. It was worth a shot! The last rescue i did i also informed the women who was rehoming the hamster. The owner felt so bad that she didn't give the hamster a better life. She listened to me about the proper care and i could see she really loved the hamster she got for her son, but that her son just grew out of it. The women had a big heart, just sadly wasn't informed about its care.

I do understand some people do have personal issues they dont want to disclose and they need to rehome them but I foster alot of animals, I've adopted alot of disabled, injured, and extremely sick babies to the point where I myself have 13 animals and am fostering a pregnant cat right now on top of my extremely large family which myself and 1 of my children has her own disabilities and so when I see these ads they irk me. It hits home when I take in sick and injured babies and I take care of their thousands of dollars of medical fees because alot of people here in texas think that if they dont SELL their animal for an exaggerated price within the first 3 days they just let them loose and we are called out to catch and foster them :/ thank you for spreading awareness

There’s a craigslist ad for a ball python in Seguin, Texas for $100. The lister admits she knows nothing about the care for a ball python, it’s shown being kept in a plastic tub (at least it seems like a good size) with NO BEDDING, a hide that looks too small, no heat mat or heat lamp visible, and it doesn’t even look like there are air holes drilled into the tub at all. I wish I could take him in but I can’t, if there is somebody in the area who can take him I would feel so relieved. It is easy to see his spine comes to a point, he is clearly underweight and it just twists my heart. I don’t know how else to get the word out about this boy/girl, but I figured this was at least one place I could spread the word from. :(

You know when getting animals if u are a normal & half way decent human being/parent that the animal will be your responsibility when taking care of it, NOT the childs! My daughter begged me for a hamster, she already had him named and was making cardboard toys for him. I got him knowing he would be MY Responsibility, and I did research so WE could provide him proper care! That is why stores do not sell or adopt animals to minors. Some people should not have pets and based on these ads it scares me that they have kids...BTW thanks again for teaching us about proper hamster care, so much has changed in the 17 years since I was young and owned a hamster :)

I have a hedgehog who came with a huge wire wheel. The holes in the wheel are too small to hurt her paws, and she won't go on any other wheel. I offered her the biggest silent spinner I could give her and she wouldn't even look at it. Is it okay for me to keep her on the wheel?

Since i don't own a rabbit nor does my pet shop i work in sell them, i would have to do my own research first on improper husbandry. However i've seen bad listings before so i'll keep my eye out.

I adopted my first set of guinea pigs from a Craigslist add lol but I get so sad looking for another guinea through them but the ads I see make me so angry when I see some conditions the animals are in. But we are going to be going to the humane society in Tacoma and see if they have any to adopt 💜 my guineas would love having another member of our family 💜

These make me so angry I’m a 14 year old that goes to school 6 hours a day, I do a part time job at a coffee place, a lot of after school activities and I have 2 autistic siblings (3 siblings total) while also being autistic myself and I have the time to look after a cat, dog, fish and a chinchilla in a 4ft cage and makes sure he’s healthy, he has enough food, water, hay etc so how do people not have time for like 2 animals and do nothing in the day time 😤. Not to mention I have to pay for everything my chinchilla has for example; Treats, Food, hay, bedding, vet bills, dust, toys, chew items, I also get him professionally cleaned and groomed every now and then as a treat for him :)

When I was younger me and my dad tried to take my cat to a no kill shelter. They turned us away because they didn’t have room for him. The car ride to that shelter was so traumatic for my cat that and my dad didn’t have the heart to do that to him again. He up living with is until he got sick and wasn’t able to be saved. He passed away at 5 years old.

i have an experience! i’m someone who needed an animal for emotional support, my dog had just passed so i was severely struggling. i beard rabbits were great for support and on kijiji i found an ad for a miniature holland lop litter and adopted a boy. when picking up said bunny, the lady brought him upstairs from her basement in a rubbermaid container filled with saw dust which can give them trouble breathing and even kill as it happened to my friend. did i do research before adopting? yes. did i know his bad that was then? no! but now i do! as i had fixed my bunny, i wanted another to bond with him so i went back to kijiji and the same lady had 10 ads for bunnies. next time i came back! she was selling cages, she had a dozen cages which are too small for a rabbit and sells them with her bunnies! next time i went, i was given a much older rabbit who she posted baby photos of. this rabbit had been bred an insane amount of times and she hadn’t even given me the breed i asked for! meaning, i’ve had this rabbit since a couple christmases ago and she is incredibly skittish and shy, meaning she only wants to stay by herself. it was a truly terrible experience and i can’t do anything about her because she’s disappeared from kijiji! her house was filled with barking dogs and upstairs she had multiple bird cages with mother buns in them, i’ll never forget that situation they were in.

I recently found a rabbit rescue that requires you to surrender all your supplies too. Hay fine but the bedding and toys can be given to another animal. Why would I give supplies away that I can still use?

I have a question: I have adopted a guinea pig (one) off an old friend, she used to have a cage mate (her sister) but she died a long time ago, I adopted her 4 years after her sister died and she’s been alone since so I don’t know if I should adopt another guinea pig to go with her or to leave her alone since she’s been alone for sooooo long, someone people answer because I don’t know what to do ( I didn’t really have time to think about it before adopting her since her old owner could not look after her anymore) ( I already had a cage set up and had done my research because I was already looking to adopt a piggy)

I know its been 4 months but i thought i would reply anyways to tell you that some rescues do meet and greets, so if you wanted to see if your guinea pig would get along well with a second one that is a really good way to do it. I know for most rabbits having a buddy can be really great enrichment and they do seem to enjoy each other’s company once they are bonded and i think guinea pigs are the same but it depends of the temperament of yours.

Hi! Looking for anyone with info on pet mice, we have 2 small girls in one of the 360 cages, with a water bottle changed daily, food bowl, and 5in wheel, they have exercise time in a small ball and hand time daily. Is this cage ok for them?

I was living in Northern Sweden when I noticed a long haired cat roaming around, getting skinnier. I eventually interacted with it and found big lumps in the fur. Nobody was taking care of it. So I gave it food and took care of the fur. I had a comb that I had bought for my own cat. I was a little worried that it seemed to be living outside and the temperature would drop to -35°C sometimes during winter but it made it through. My boyfriend wouldn't let me get the cat inside, otherwise I totally would have. Then in the spring our neighbour that had been renting his place out came back. And the cat didn't come to us any more. A few weeks later we were at his place and there was the cat. He proudly told us it took care of itself while he was abroad. 😡
