im currently 17 and from India. i wish to be a psychologist and help people live a little easier too, but im also sorta introverted so those first assessments sometimes sound a bit daunting to me, having to make someone feel comfortable with you when you know nothing about them. but this video cleared up a lot of my doubts and i feel much better about doing this in the future. its inspiring and informative. you were so articulate and empathetic, i really feel at ease now and cant wait to learn more and be able to help people one day. thank you so much.

It’s rlly helpful to get a sense of how in general a first psychology session looks like not only for those who wanna be a psychologist in the future but also for those who’re probably struggling w their lives but still pondering whether to reach out to a therapist as this might reduce their nervousness.

I am binge-watching your videos, really interesting and helpful!!! I'm an undergraduate psychology student myself and thinking to take this path as well. However, I have a question: what topics you would suggest to focus on, and what did you find unnecessary? Sometimes I feel that some material is not so useful and question myself whether it is worth to spend hours studying. Thank you a lot in advance!!
@thepsychdiaries3 жыл бұрын
Totally! To be honest the ones they make you do as the core subjects are probably the important ones, but in terms of clinical skills you learn all of that in masters. In undergrad I would strongly recommend choosing electives (e.g. cognitive psych, social psych, personality psych) based on what interests you!

I reckon that more and more people see psychologists nowadays because real friendships and relationships are becoming ever more rare! There is an increasing trend of 'friends' who just want to hear good stuff and have fun and for you to listen to their problems not the other way around (utilitarian materialistic relationships- capitalist mindset?). Once you start sharing your thoughts and feelings something always comes up, an excuse, that cuts the conversation short! The most silly thing is that they think this is not noticeable. Why not tell your friend how you feel and what you think on certain issues? Cliché but sharing is indeed caring!

How do you diagnose anxiety?
@thepsychdiaries3 жыл бұрын
Hi! It's hard to do so without a proper clinical interview- however we go off something called "DSM-5" which is the diagnostic manual :)
@maayan09903 жыл бұрын
@@thepsychdiaries thanks for the answer! If somebody is showing at least five of the symptoms including the first two for at least two weeks, is that enough for a diagnosis? Or are there more tests to do?
@thepsychdiaries3 жыл бұрын
@@maayan0990 typically we cant just go off the criteria since we need to rule out any other cause and determine the impact on functioning- hence why no psychologist can diagnose without a clinical interview :)
