The oddest thing about Foles is that inadvertently destroyed Wentz's career by just doing his job well. Wentz was in the MVP conversation the year they won the Superbowl but because he got hurt he gets completely ignored for his contributions that year. Usually when the starting QB goes down in December the team gets destroyed in the first round and we're all mad that they're eating up a spot (think the Raiders the year Carr got injured) but that didn't happen here. Nothing hurts your rep more than if you go down and the guy who replaces you shines in the playoffs. And then Wentz got hurt the next year and Foles replaced him in the playoffs again. He needed that comeback season but didn't get it. Yet Foles did nothing wrong. He simply stepped up when he was asked to and had this strange ability to be amazing when filling in but mediocre when he was expected to be the starter.
@JustSomeGuy0095 ай бұрын
As someone that watched all those games back then, Wentz was a mirage. He scrambled a bunch and would make those big plays. However, he would CONSTANTLY miss wide open receivers all through the game. And always missed high, which is not a good way to miss. As time went on they tried to correct this and then he would start spiking balls 3 yards short of receivers. He was not very good at reading defenses or progressions either. The injury reduced his mobility and athleticism and what he had left was a bunch of below average QB skill sets. In many ways he reminds me a bit of RG3.
@El_hombre_malo5 ай бұрын
Without Carson we're not getting home field advantage.
@johnmazzarella435 ай бұрын
What ruined Wentz career is that he was a total head case. He was used to being the big fish in the small NDSU pond, couldn’t handle not being the center of attention when he got injured, let alone the threat of competition later when the Birds drafted Jalen Hurts. He sulked and demanded a trade when Hurts was selected. During the Birds’ Super Bowl playoff run, Wentz reportedly whined (behind the scenes, in the locker room) about the team’s success without him (and nearly got punched out by Darren Sproles because of that). Not a team player.
@kevinheisey43505 ай бұрын
2018 when they put Wentz on the shelf, the Eagles were 6-7 with the 11-2 Rams, the 9-4 Texans, and the 6-7 Redskins remaining on the schedule. All but mathematically eliminated. Against Houston, Foles passed for 471 yards and 4TDs in a walk-off, comeback, 32-30 win, to keep an improbable march to the playoffs alive.

I read this somewhere a while back, so correct me if I'm wrong. Foles was the #2 ranked HS QB in Texas in 2007 and signed with Michigan State. Ryan Mallett was the #1 ranked HS QB in Texas that year and signed with Michigan. Both only lasted one year in Michigan and transferred out to Arizona and Arkansas respectively. There's some other weird ephemeral coincidences there like Mallett transferring because Rich Rodriguez was hired at Michigan and then Rodriguez coming to Arizona the year after Foles graduated. And Mallett being drafted by and spending his first few years with the Patriots, the team that Foles eventually beat in the SB.
