My dad sold his DeTamaso and bought a 308GTB in the late 70's. I always missed that beautiful raspy tone coming from a very unique exhaust system. He eventually put a 70 Camaro muffler within the gutted out Ferrari muffler to gain a great sound and a lot more power.

The best sounding car ever. Possibly the most badass. I personally would take a Pantera over a Countach. A Countach is a gorgeous car, no doubt, a dream car of my youth, and Vette's will always rule, but the Pantera just has something that every other car doesn't. It's just raw. I wish they would bring it back, because that body style and design is still totally viable. Not dated at all and could sit along side any modern super care design. :)

Indeed...It looks like a blade. I can not say a point of this car should be another way. A design so simple and minimalist could not look better than this. In early 80s, when I saw a Pantera for the first time in my country (sadly has been the last time, though), I fell in love at first glance. It was a retired race car in dark yellow and matt black with a UK plate. I can not forget the times we chased that beauty with our poor 125 cc bikes, as it was lurking slowly. As a design excellency, I would secondly put the Miura close to it. These are the kind of cars that would feel ashamed of being parked side by side today's supercars that are so robotic and ugly that they pretend to build the Voltran when a cuople of the meets. All Huracan, Avendator etc. are dime- a-dozen junks built in the taste of Arabic elites who are also junk...

99% of V8's in existence are rumbling around , sounding almost the same. Safe to say n/a V12 is king , 180's are more in that direction, when done properly. THe first car with the tips on opposite ends make it sound like a VW bug. 2nd car was decent

**Ok, I guess it's up to me to point out the crazy inconsistent weather on that mountain course from one corner to the next! It's obviously been raining pretty hard and very recently in one area, but it's 100% dry just a short distance away. Then its sopping wet once again around the next corner! I could understand if the race began where it was raining in the valley, on one side of a very tall mountain range, but the course then takes you at least a few miles through the mountains, to another mountain that's 'shaded' from the storm system by the effects of the higher mountains at the edges of the range(i know how confusing that sounds, but the proper terminology escapes me now).** But this weather system seems to be VERY spotty! It's different from one area to another area, seemingly on the same mountain(certainly not far apart anyway). Strange....

The Pantera's 1993 successor, the de Tomaso Guara, was initially armed with a M60 Beemer V8 for the first five years of production, after which it was replaced with another Ford unit. I think the Pantera was offered in company literature until about '96, so that may be where the confusion arised from.

The one we could see toward the end (2:45) was a Ford 351C. Just judging from the intakes on the others, I expect they are Ford as well. The 180° headers make them sound different than most front engine Americans cars with exhaust split by cylinder bank. 180° exhaust eliminates the overlapping pulses that give the "American V8" sound.
