you bought a lemon, congrats, contact heritage and they will take care of it. I've owned my rough rider for 15 years and never had one issue. You think ruger hasn't sent out a lemon every now and again lol?
@Tacticalsnowflake

I’m pumped you have a solid one! That’s fantastic. We bought two and they are both pretty bad. I wrote off lemon, but it’s entirely possible. I contacted them, they were solid. There’s a situation where I can’t send it back. Warranty had expired now. How often do you take it out? I absolutely love how accurate this thing is. I’m actually quite depressed about it. I’m considering changing out the cylinder. Thoughts? Do you think that would help? I think since it is having light strikes that it might be just ever so slightly misaligned.
@jameswilliamson3404

@@Tacticalsnowflake a new cylinder could be the issue, maybe tolerance stacking caught you, all the parts are made within a certain range of tolerance, which is why you can just go buy a new cylinder or a .22 wmr cylinder separately, they aren't matched to your specific gun. If you continue to just get light strikes, which just happen with .22 weapons over time. most people would say try a different brand of ammo, as some are harder to ignite the rimfire compound than others. If i were you I would shim the area between the mainspring and the frame. it will increase how hard it is to pull the hammer back, but is your best permanent solution for fixing those light strikes.

I don't disagree but I would like to know what ammo you were using? .22 caliber, especially the cheap bulk pack stuff is notorious for poor quality. I have a Heritage myself and I agree it's not the best but it's not terrible. I only buy CCI Mini Mags or Stingers, Eley, SK and I want to try some Federal Punch. The only thing I don't like about the Ruger is the free spinning cylinder and only when unloading. You have no audible "Clicks" to let you know the chamber is lined up with the ejector rod. I think the Ruger Single Six would be the way to go but of course it costs quite a bit more. Screws coming lose on ANY 1873 clone is the norm, even on my Vaquero so you did the right thing in using lock tight, blue I hope.
@Tacticalsnowflake
@Tacticalsnowflake 19 күн бұрын
My goodness! The free spinning is going to drive me insane. I really liked the “true” single action with the four clicks of the Heritage. Hopefully I can get it fixed down the road. As far as ammo goes, I have burned through all the brands that I could get my hands on in Utah. Grain, brand, style none of them seemed to make much of a difference. Cheap ammo is the worst, but it’s a bummer when the cheap ammo goes through another gun just fine and fails with one, ya know?

@@Tacticalsnowflake I hope you can work it out and get it fixed but do the work yourself. There are mods for the Rough Rider on YT that should fix the issue. I read through the comments and someone mentioned getting a new cylinder. Well, if you don't already have one, get the .22 Magnum cylinder. I highly doubt there is anything wrong with your original .22 LR cylinder. It may be that the hammer is getting hung up on the face of the frame, a few swipes with a file could remedy that. Right now I'm working on a Great Western Arms 1873 SAA (The very first Colt clone) that had all kinds of issues. Broken firing pin, broken hand spring, bent Trigger and bolt pins, the bolt not entering the recesses on the cylinder, the chambers not releasing the empty cases, excessive end shake (cylinder movement for and aft). I have addressed all of those issues myself and now I have a very cool and functional .357 1873 Colt clone. I also had to make a grip out of an 1851 Colt grip, turned out pretty nice. I'm an armature but I've done this since I was able to hold a gun. I know you can do it.

I've had a Ruger New Model Single Six with both .22LR and .22WMR cylinders for years now and it is a great gun... no reason to even consider a Heritage or even the Ruger Wrangler. However, if I was in the market for one at this price range now, I would go with the Ruger all day long. Well worth the $50+/- more... Not surprised to hear of these problem on the Rough Rider... It looks cheap!

I’ve been collecting firearms for a few decades now, starting with military surplus then moving into all manner of firearms. The biggest piece of garbage I’ve ever bought was a Heritage. For everyone that says they have one with 10 billion rounds through it there’s 2 to 3 people saying they have a lemon. For those that say just send it in, well the fact that you have to pay shipping both ways in order for them to repair their shoddy work your looking at $70 to $80.00 for the round trip so on a $120.00 gun it’s just not worth it.

@p4srandom oh no, you're definitely not the only one, almost everyone I met who has bought one has had the damn thing fall apart too. I tried the whole calling the Customer Service thing which was very unproductive and obviously a joke. Warranty is useless. You will inevitably spend $400-$500 taking the time and effort just to have a functional .22 revolver after spending a ridiculous amount of time and money "fixing" it. In the end, I've deduced that spending a little extra for the Ruger will end up saving your ass a good headache, a few hundred bucks and about 6-8 months of your life including shipping and handling. I've been on a mission warning people about Heritage Rough Riders for years now because of it. I've heard time and again "yOu GoT a LeMoN" well, these bastards are in the Lemon tree business it seems. -🇺🇲

I am a dyslexic from a southern school 40 years ago. So spelling dont mean much. On the colts and ruger no. Would not take the chance on and they didn't get shot much. The ruger with steel and aluminum components no just check them that gun has a bit of serious use hog trap gun. The heartage and the Italian ones no lock tight superglue. Mid 90's to early 00s. I got it from a old gunsmith tight it . Then use the glue on the head not the threads. That way you can heat it up to remove it. I am not suggest anyone to use that. It worked for me. But if you mess up its superglue so could cause problems. Also have a few rifles and the scope mount screws were done the same and on my ruger they stayed put since 97

I'm even considering grabbing the Heritage Rancher so I can shoot .22 WMR through it after I make a custom forend for it. A .22 WMR revolver rifle just seems cool to me. I've had my heritage for over 5 years now.

Ever hear of a thing called warranty? 1 year on the rough rider. Unless you bought it from someone's trunk.

I have heard of a warranty. Contacted Heritage. Solid company. It was purchased above board. There was still an impediment with being able to submit the claim. Long story. Here we are. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Ive had 3 different models of heritage revolvers, never had an issue. Ive know several others that have way more and shoot them alot more then me, also no issues. You got a lemon. Personally id never own a ruger, do to how it operates, if you ever mess with a real single action it could mess with you if you dont know standard loading/unloading of one. If you want a single action get a pietta... yes i believe theyre better built and function over uberti, youre not going to change my opinion.

First off, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. Time is limited and I appreciate yours. For sure make no mistake, I am very happy that you and your associates have Heritage Rough Riders that have worked flawlessly. I loved/love this gun. I just am not pumped with the lack of consistency. I guess I don’t understand what you mean by real single action, sorry. I guess we will see if this Ruger is much better. I think I only have one other one. I do believe that I want to try a new cylinder in the Heritage. It’s an incredibly fun revolver and accurate.

@p4srandom i appreciate your response and respect for my opinion brotha. What i mean by real single action is, one actually made to spec of the originals as far as functionality goes. The heritage is closer to a colt then the rugers, even the big bore, but not quality and I understand that. The real single actions have to be put into half cock, two clicks, to free up the cylinder and are 4 clicks. Its minor but if you practice on those, which i grew up on them and go to a ruger it could potentially lead to saftey issues. I have many single actions and if they're not 4 click guns and have to be put into half cock to load i dont wanna mess with em. Just personal preference to have the same manual of arms across the board no matter the brand, god bless brotha from ole Carolina.

This was the first video I've seen of yours, but the fact you take the time to fully engage with a viewer and respectfully i might add, will take you far. Respect is always earned, not givin and it's a breath of fresh air, to see someone not get completely bent out of shape over a comment from a person that has no control over their life, they don't even know lol. Really pumped to have you here bru. For real. The platform gives me a way to actually get better in all aspects because I incorporate what people actually say and suggestions they give. I look at it as just micro improvements through your feedback. Isn’t any sense in having the platform otherwise. Hopefully I can get this channel to be a little more successful and start bringing more and more content. It’s hard when it is all self funded.

The Heritage would be fine if you sent it back, but you keep saying (in the comments) that there is an "impediment" to doing so.. either you can't pass a background check, aren't a US citizen or are living somewhere that doesn't allow guns?? Not the manufactures fault, and I'd bet you can still order replacement parts... plenty of examples of people having similar issues and most were simple fixes (new cylinder, hammer spring etc).. of course the Ruger is better, for 3x the price! I have both, no issues with either ( I just got the Heritage this summer, so only 100 rounds or so?)

Whoa whoa whoa, DO NOT throw around accusations about why I can’t send it back. Especially about me not being a US Citizen or can’t pass a background check. That is a pretty serious conclusion to jump to and I don’t appreciate the false dichotomy. I bought it legally with cash from an FFL. The only receipt I had from the purchase w/ the serial number didn’t have my name on the receipt also. Simple as. I did state that I am going to order a new cylinder. I am just quite highly annoyed that it failed in the first place. I do appreciate you watching and reading through the comments. I’m glad that you bought a Heritage though. It seems that so many have loved them. I put a couple hundred rounds through the first day, probably 1K the first weekend. Just bummed it failed. I’ll order that new cylinder and post a follow up. I LOVE the Rough Rider for the accuracy. Can’t state that enough. I was devastated that it started failing so soon.

In order for Heritage to perform their warranty work they require the owner to pay for shipping both ways. That runs between $60 and $80.00 these days making it not worth doing on a $100-$120.00 gun.
