As some of you may have saw on other channels, our friend Diogo, who is so passionate about beekeeping, sadly lost two apiaries during the fire. We are so sorry for all that local people have lost during the fire 😢 You can find out more and support Diogo here: gofund.me/37cd76c3

I’m glad that you are both safe and hopefully the worst is now over. It’s really upsetting for those affected by the fires and I wish them nothing but good times ahead. Your harvest was absolutely fantastic as was the sauce and sun dried tomatoes. Well done to you both, and take very good care of yourselves amid this dangerous fire situation. Pauline

Great community spirit and you all working together. Singing and festive even with the added threat around you all. I watch The Scotters on here too and thought I saw Badger and his wife. There video was from that same vineyard with that smoke around them. Their property came within 800 meters of being caught in the fires but all the community worked tirelessly together for a few days to prevent it spreading. Worrying times but the Portuguese sing through it. Stay safe and wonderful harvest.

It's wonderful to see that the Portuguese welcome you so openly into their traditions. And that you two are open to this experience as well and make time for it. A thought because of the fire: From the newbys we've heard that many bee keepers in your area lost their hive or the pasture for their bees to forage and survive the winter. You have a quite large area. If one of those bee keepers lives nearby, you could offer your place for hives?

Here in Crete we've had no rain since April so the risk of fires has been high all summer. Apart from some relatively small fires the island has escaped serious damage. Everyone was forced to clear all their land of brush before and i think it's made a big difference. Like someone else mentioned get rid of the mimosa in the winter and make some sort of fire break. Loving the videos !
@BaileysHomestead2 ай бұрын
That's great Crete has managed to remain without any big fires. Yes, more work to do this winter around the land

Glad you stay safe. I guess it makes sense to work on the forrestal part of your property to clean it up in winter and by doing so reduce the risk. And if you have a lot of Mimosas, try to get rid of them, as they burn really fast. Have a beautiful Sunday over there. 😊😊
@BaileysHomestead2 ай бұрын
Definitely, this is the plan 😊 thankfully, mimosas are one problem we don't have on our land

scary times with the fires all around, seems to happen too often. Might be worth looking into making a solar dehydrator as you have such a great sunny spot on the property, They are basically a cupboard with mesh shelves and air is drawn in from the base at the front and exits at the top through the back, Very simple to construct, especially as one of you is a handy joiner

Hopefully the winds will continue to blow the fire away from your home. In Oregon usa where we live we have had a record fire season with up to 1000 fires burning around our state thats covered in old douglas fir trees 150 feet tall and 5 foot through. We are known for our high mountains covered in lush forests. Some of these fires have been burning for 3 months and are still burning out of control. 3 of the fires have grown to over 150,000 acres a piece and the only thing thats going to stop them is when the winter rains come in november. We had a very hot dry summer and the last rain we had was in may and the temperatures have been in the 80s an 90s for months and a couple weeks we got up to 105 degrees which is unheard of in Oregon. I never believed in global warming until this year and its obvious something is very wrong with our weather.
