Hello Laramy, good theme about Bevel Position, thank you...

Very enlightening video! Thank you Mr. Seegers, your explanations makes it now easier for me to explain to customers/patients about some not-so-great jobs I've seen. I'm always learning something from watching your educational videos, keep them coming, please!

Appreciate the video. This is a job that requires you to continue to improve your skills. We edge here and I have two apprentices. I recommended your videos to them and they have gotten a lot out of them. Again thanks for doing these.

You are welcome. Trying some new things once in awhile makes the job a bit more interesting.

Thanks for the tips, I leave one for you, reducing the size of the chamfer (if the facer has this feature) the white edges disappear from the metal frames.

I've been watching your videos and find them facinating. I would have probably enjoyed learning how to complete lenses production. But im retire now. Recently, jan 18, 2019 I purchased my first progressive lenses at sams club. Im having to take them back because the focus in each lenses are not even. I closed one eye and move my head a little bit until i could focus one eye on a target line/word of text. The left and right are not consistant causing it difficult to focus both eyes. Upclose is way down in the lenses at the bottom. My question is where do i go to get a set of lenses made by your lab for my frames. Thank you

I was going to ask about what bevels you use on the Lexce edger you set up, and If you evert use the frame bevel setting. Then I saw this Video. You had recommended the Santinelli edger some time ago when I ask for your suggestion for a good edger. The lab I work for eventually bought a Nidek Lexce trend 8. Which is a version of the Santinelli, but made in the US, I believe. With my limited use, I found that the auto bevel works well for plastic frames, not so much for metal frames, with lenses that are higher in power. I found that selecting front curve works great for both metal and plastic, for most powers, and is what I usually cut jobs set at. Occasionally if the lens is a very high minus script I will use the ratio setting at 3:7 ratio.

Plan to shoot high curve and step bevel on the LEXCE Trend 8 next week if everything goes according to plan. Watch for that one sometime in June.

What lens materials should be beveled with water and which without water and which are the easiest and hardest to bevel? Thank you!!
@LaramyKOptical2 жыл бұрын
Should be 99.9999% an automated edger function so it should not matter. Hand beveling is an art unto itself and extremely rare. Water for everything I know of except polycarbonate. A safety bevel is something different and you can (pretty much) dry bevel all materials. John

Hi, I know this video is 2 years old, but I am working at an optical lab as an editor and I want to learn as much as I can. I sometimes get jobs asking for Flush Bevels, but I can't find anything about them online. Does a flush bevel make a difference in patient vision or is it just superficial?

All bevel placement is cosmetic. Sounds like you could really use the full OpticianWorks program! It was designed with folks like you in mind. Check us out at OpticianWorks.com.

We were asked to do a french bevel..... I have never heard of a french bevel. Can you elaborate on what this might be ? Please

French letter, French braid (mmmmm), French bread, French Fries but nope no French bevel in my world. Sorry. John

@@LaramyKOptical See that's what I said. I've beenan Optician for 15 years in a lab, and never heard of it. We received an order with special request for a french bevel..... I told my associates to let me get online tonight and see what I find. Thank you for experienced input on this. I really do appreciate it. Many of my associates are very big on your teachings and videos, so I'll be showing them your response, if you don't mind. Lol Again thank you

@@rict.4938 I forgot the useful French curve and of course the French horn. And I don't see any way auto-spell-correction would come up with French. Bench maybe - but I've never heard of that either. ;-)

Very beutifull video but I think the auto edger mode is the best 99% of the time.. my very old edger have not the auto mode. When I have to use manual edger handmade I use center position for small b frames

Often I receive high minus jobs with temples "splayed". How does edge beveling help eliminate this problem?
@LaramyKOptical5 жыл бұрын
A high-end edger can cut a step that removes material from the area directly behind the bevel. That relieves the stress and eliminates the splay. That is quite literally what it is for. John
@JeanlucLafonk5 жыл бұрын
A crucial part is the frame choice and its base relation with the prescription. Most frames are well made and do suit usual 3.5/6 base lens. But with thin lens for myopic rx we can encounter problems with plastic frames. If you don't have a high end edger that can remove the material on the outer sides, forget about the fixed bevel position and use a base approach to try to mimic as best as possible the frame : Bevel position max front up in the 90° axis and at 180 try to get as far back as you can without it being unaesthetic depending on the frame, if you got enough material you can get good results and approach the frame curvature. The best is to use a mix of both options to get it right and to not induce prismatic deviation due to the resulting tilting effect of that bevel positioning.

Hlo sir, Can you please tell me how do I remove the white edges from my eye lenses. Edges shine white and look weird from front view due to cutting of thick lens from edges, to make them look thin??? please tell me sir, is there any method to remove those white edges without polishing them????
@LaramyKOptical4 жыл бұрын
YES! You should be able to order from Hilco online with a credit card. You want a Lens Edge Pen. Your call on "clear" or color. You will need to take the lenses out and you will need to be careful but they work. Depending on how picky you are, heck, a Sharpie would work... Polishing CAN be done by hand after edging and mounting if you find a good optician.
