Vagabond Awakes has a great channel... anyone looking to become an "Expat" would be well advised to spend some time on his channel. Da Nang sounds like a great "Beach Community" style of living if that is what you are looking for. There is so much I could comment on here... but I will pick just the access to healthcare. The best approach I have found, now living in Thailand for 10+ years, is to get a catastrophic policy and otherwise self insure yourself... it is that affordable and that easy. The prices quoted in this video (including dental) are also found in Thailand. With one caveat, it really depends on where you seek your health needs. Thailand is probably the top health tourist destination in the world with hospitals that are comparable to most American hospitals and you will pay a bit more for these. For a health insurance policy, I use Pacific Cross and at 57 years old I pay roughly $1300.00 per year for an annual policy. That gets me everything you would expect from an insurance policy, excluding out patient care, again... I self insure this part. My deductible is $1200.00... again this a catastrophic policy and your individual needs will of course be different. Policies are very flexible dialing up or down coverage as you need it. One final comment on this... if you have significant health needs, commonly known as "pre-existing conditions," those WILL be excluded on your initial sign up period. This can be a real bummer if you have chronic conditions and will need services on a regular basis. This can be a very exclusionary issue when considering retiring overseas... especially to South East Asian countries. You will have to cover those conditions out of pocket. Laos and Cambodia it is even more challenging due to generally having a lower standard of healthcare services in those countries. If you're an American and will be relying upon Medicare as a source of insurance to cover your health needs, unless you were in the military, that will not be able to be used outside of America. I will leave my comment there... starting to write a book here... lol.
