Went to a dealer to get some diag stuff done to my vehicle, figured that while I was there I would get my TPMS sensor replaced for one of the tires. Quoted about $200CAD, which is higher than normal, but I went with it anyways just to get it done. Dropped the vehicle off, with an appointment, and stayed there each time. I'll make a long story short. 3 visits, 3 appointments. About 12 hours total waiting. 15% discount for the wait. The first time, they lost my keys and found out the driver had them on him as he was picking up and dropping off customers. Final result: TPMS sensor does not work. All other sensors work and read correctly. Out of 8 tires, the 1 single one they worked on, does not work. I was told to find a TPMS antenna and replace it myself, they cannot get parts. I'm not a mechanic, but if the antenna is faulty, why does it work when I switch from winter to summer tires? I would say it was a complete waste of time but it was a good lesson. Places like this burn customers constantly and don't care. Their reviews are the highest in the area. My 1 star review got removed. This is partly the technicians in the industry (both mechanical and body), who hack stuff apart and expect the customer to save them with their wallet. I say this as a technician in the body side of things. The other part is the managers who can't manage a thing. I saw a total of 1 technician in that entire building. 3 or 4 managers. 4-6 people in the waiting room, average. I've left my vehicles at shops before, and it seems like people have completely given up on the "no update update". Since when is it acceptable to go complete radio silence on a paid job? The last part of this is the customer. These businesses are obviously thriving, and they are everywhere. I've been told by people around me that it's a good idea to start a shop in my area, where you have the dreaded "auto plaza". A block of 3x transmission, 2x muffler, 2x quicklube, 4x mechanic shop, all bunched up. The customer has the opportunity to window shop and pick what style of hack they want touching their car. And the businesses live on. I'd like to imagine a world where the perfect shop exists, one that you and I envision. 10/10 in every regard, from customer relations, communication, transparency, to the sales, service and actual work output on an efficient and timely manner. Customer is quoted, scheduled, vehicle dropped off, customer is updated, work orders resubmitted and approved, and the customer gets exactly what they wanted, at the price they were promised, at the day that was agreed on. But in my area at least, I don't know if a shop like this would survive. There's a reason people get into the trade and turn into hacks. I'd love to run my own shop, but I refuse to compete with auto plazas in a race to the bottom. I hope the trade turns around one day.

I hope so too buddy. I've always said if you put customer satisfaction 1st the money will follow in larger amounts and be way more loyal. No customer loyalty anymore. Because the industry hasn't been loyal to them! They go wherever place will take them in knowing all the places are the same and will get screwed the same. I do hate the industry as it is today. The status quo makes me sick to my belly!
