I really would like to live in a world where if your story gets axed by the publishing company, then you can take that work of yours and find someone else to publish it.

That would be great! I'm sure a lot of these titles could thrive in a smaller publisher.

@RobinMcCall_ really hated the current system because it feels like they hostaging the story. They don't even reuse it, the jus lock in their intellectual property cell. The ownership should sway heavily to the creator as any intellectual property is in other countries. The partnership 3nded in the axe, the hold of the publisher should also end there.

man, fantastic video! thanks for giving all these series a chance, i always feel sad whenever I see a shounen jump manga get cancelled cause even if its understandable, it always a story getting killed in its infacy before it might have matured. I'm looking forward to your future videos!

Thank you! That's very nice of you. It's always a bummer to see this stuff get cut short. Especially considering the joke that manga fans will be like wait 60 chapters it gets good. Like my brother in Christ this shit is ONLY 22 chapters.

Fantastic video with great editing and good commentary, wasnt unnecessarily negative which is rarer in this modern internet age you're gonna go far

Awesome video! I'm also someone who checks out basically every new WSJ series just to see what's up. I'll even hit up the vault sometimes and read the older cancelled series they have on there. The unfortunate reality for me is that no matter how much I enjoyed some of these axed series, their length and the (usually) rushed endings tend to leave me forgetting about them shortly after they end. I assume that's the case for most people, because you never see much content around them. So I think it's really cool that you put together such a big video reflecting on these titles that will no doubt fade into obscurity as time goes on. That said, I still think Tenmaku Cinema is great and so so worth the read! I just pretend it's a mini-series and the pain of its cancellation is a bit easier to deal with haha :'))

great vid man! since i learned a bit about how jump decides which series stays or which one goes, ive been curious about the content of those axed titles like ayashimon and etc, and your commentary is really easy to listen to while im drawing LOL excited for your future vids!!

I hadn't heard about Tenmaku Cinema until now, I know it's been axed but, I'm going to try and read it however I can. Mangas and animes about people fullfilling their passions always inspire me to continue with my dream of posting my own manga one day.

PPPPPP sounds way more up my alley than I thought, I'm honestly shocked I've never heard of Tenmaku Cinema and High School Family cause those are suuuuuuper up my alley. Love the Toriyama tribute at the end too, I remember as a kid I used to play as many DB games as I could and I'd share that love of DB with every other kid that was also into it. Like it's so rad how prevalent Toriyama's work was really within so many people's lives and how formative it was for so many people even if some disconnected from it over time more than others.

Good thing about all these canned manga is they're a breeze to get through! Tenmaku is only 21 chapters, PPPPPP and High School Family are the longest at 70 and 122 respectively. HSF is quick though the chapters are like 11 pages. I honestly think you'd dig Ginka and Gulna too. I didn't give myself enough time to talk about it but Gulna being a woman and the acting like a Gon or Luffy makes her feel way more unique than other run of the mill Shonen Bros.

I literally jumped out of my seat upon seeing WaqWaq mentioned lol... To me it's a solid romp that doesn't do anything New, but at 4 volumes it's enough for when I want a slice off battle shonen cake instead of reading something technically better, but much longer. That said, I didn't happen to stumble into it casually, but rather read it specifically because I'm a big fan of Ryu Fujisaki's work, who has an... Interesting catalogue. Im not really into his newer stuff, and I have a lot of problems with his writing, but within the parameters of battle shonen I find him an underrated author in the western sphere. The anime adaptation of Shiki has some prestige in the sense it'll always be a part of "top 10 horror anime to watch this halloween season", but both Houshin Engi anime adaptations had the misfortune of being terrible in directly opposite ways, which might contribute to his general body of work not being well known outside of Japan. Which is a shame, because I do love the manga. Warts and all, I find Fujisaki a very interesting author so seeing any of his non Shiki works mentioned was surprising.
