I work in the dental industry and activated charcoal does whiten teeth.. But by scraping irreplaceable layers off your teeth. It's VERY bad for your teeth, do NOT ever do it!
@RebeccaEd
@RebeccaEd 6 жыл бұрын
I got some of that as a gift and was really sceptical so I haven't used it more than once. Gonna throw it out. It's sad that these products exist, I also used to use a whitening tooth paste, and when I got a new dentist he asked what I used and told me to stop using it because it was destroying the layers as you said. These products should not exist.

So I'm not going to brush my teeth anymore, gonna just use mouthwash since every tooth paste is abrasive that removes layer of a teeth which is not good
@sky1arks995
@sky1arks995 6 жыл бұрын
Early7 Strikeland ? pretty sure toothpaste is used to add layers; the toothbrush removes the sugar, bacteria and acid eating your layers of teeth (de-mineralisation) and the fluoride in the toothpaste binds to your teeth, helping maintain and rebuild any minerals lost (re-mineralisation). Fluoride is only useful to the teeth, ingesting it has no or negative side effects to the body. But hey, if you want mouthwash go ahead; just don't use any that have alcohol (ethanol) in them. That will actually eat at your teeth as well. Listerine has been sued in the past for adding that ingredient.

They only whiten your teeth as they are so abrasive that they scratch off a layer off your enamel... but that would make the surface of your teeth uneven, which traps food and bacteria that leads to tooth decay and makes your teeth more yellow over time as you can’t clean the uneven surface well
@ekinteko
@ekinteko 4 жыл бұрын
The funny part is, as long as you don't ingest it, cleaning your teeth with it can make them brighter. It's basically an abrasive that picks up bacteria, food particles, and by-products. Although the way for it to be effective is to rinse your mouth first with water, perform a quick brush and floss, rinse mouth with alcohol/ mouthcleaner, then brush with charcoal. However, I've noticed they've thrown it into regular toothpaste now, and it is not effective in that manner. They simply use the black colouring and the naming as marketing ploys to sell higher or more product for revenue or profits.

I have to admit, I jumped on the bandwagon for a split second and bought toothpaste with this stuff. Turns out, it doesn't wrok, can't work and will never work, because guess what: if you put hyper-absorbing matter in other matter, it already absorbed the other matter to its full capacity and has no space left for whatever is stuck in your teeth... I could've thought of this myself, but no, I needed to spend money, get angry and google shit -.-
@BetterDeadThanRed99

Monkeys will naturally eat and even steal charcoal from humans to help with upset stomach. Which is why it has been used for that purpose medicinally for a very long time. It DOES help with bloating - millions of people use it for that very reason with immediate relief from gas and upset stomach. It's not just for "poisoning". And science insider's argument that it robs the body of nutrition and is 'indigestible' is rather moot and pretentious claim. On the contrary - it actually provides room for bacteria that can aid in nutritional uptake that would otherwise be unavailable from food. It aids in "eubiosis". It's not going to make you piss out bone mass like the acidifiers in your fountain drinks... which your fears would be better directed to. It's pretty inert and what little nutrition it absorbs is compensated for by improved GI function as a result of colonization via gram-negative bacteria. Bacteria actually provide you with most of your nutrition by breaking down food into bio-available nutrients for you. Some of them produce toxins as well. People that have poor digestion efficiency will benefit greatly from charcoal supplementation. Since before the 1900's people were supplementing charcoal into livestock feeds, particularly poultry and cows with noticeable improvements in body weight, laying rate, longevity, etc. BETTER nutrition absorption is required for those things to take place. This is the REAL SCIENCE behind charcoal - not some pseudo-scientific speculation but real hard evidence derived from experimentation. That's why the majority of commercial charcoal produced in Europe is used in farming livestock. And like monkeys - chickens and cows will naturally eat the charcoal on their own as well. They know it's good for them in moderation. You could actually learn a thing or two from a chicken a monkey or a cow. So don't patronize. Stop the fearmongering conjectures - charcoal is perfectly safe to consume and has empirically demonstrated effectiveness. And no - I'm not a charcoal "shill" trying to sell you something. Make it yourself - pyrolysing wood has been free for thousands of years people.

It DOES prevent bloating, by doing exactly what you described: it absorbs some of the bacteria in your gut that produces gas. You shouldn't take it all the time because you _need_ that bacteria, but it certainly works - because I occasionally use it for that exact purpose. As for teeth whitening, it has been done for a lot longer than the trendy health hacks on the internet. My 74 yr old mother has always said it was often used in the old days to whiten your teeth.

Fun (relatively) fact - in soviet union and Russia "activated charcoal" was and is one of the most popular "first aid" drugs. It's made into tablets and is used for stomach pain and diarrhoea. It's probably the cheapest "drug" available and is pretty much ubiquitous. I even saw people taking it BEFORE drinking alcohol which supposedly removes hangover. The best part though is that the price for activated charcoal is actually 1/10 here of what some supplements cost in the west. There's also more expensive "white coal" alternative which is made from silica and cellulose and is even more potent as it absorbs more and requires less amounts to ingest.

@AlreadyTaken999

If she genuinely has celiac disease and was severely suffering/near death because of the celiac, activated charcoal wouldn't treat her symptoms, much less "save her life"". Celiac disease is an autoimmune reaction against gluten. Activated charcoal would neither selectively remove the gluten nor affect the autoimmune reaction & thus do nothing to help. If anything, it could potentially worsen the malnutrition seen in severely ill celiac patients & would generally not be recommended. Source: Medical school
@theleon8111
@theleon8111 6 жыл бұрын
@@AlreadyTaken999 well if your in medical school you should ask about books that reference celiac cases and you can find her as a reference because she was a major first case of it in the 70/80 and she was basically used as a guinea pig in the hospital system. She had severe digestive poisoning because back then they didn't know anything about it and would serve bread and other glutenous foods in the hospital. By this point she was basically crippled and catatonic/paralyzed from the autoimmune response to attacking her own body. This lead to severe endometriosis and other abdominal area orgin issues and failures/abnormality. She might be referenced as SKT or ST as a case name. She uses charcoal imediately to reduce the risk factors if she eats something that might have had gluten on it from a restaurant. She's gotten pretty good at telling if there is a hint of gluten in food before it's too late. But she's been hospitalized after not being able to get some fast enough before. The result of all the times she's taken it on time don't even compare to the sistuation in the slightest. Alcohol don't get adsorbed by carbon. Vodka is passed through activated carbon for filtration. The number of passes determines whether the vodka is expensive or for a typical Russian. Activated carbon can arrest nasty chemical reactions in your gut when it is out of balance. So taking activated carbon in the morning after a drinking spree may help as your stomach is pure nastiness.
@Shendue
@Shendue 5 жыл бұрын
Well, activated charcoal is actually useful when used for things you need it for, under a medical prescription, for example when you have gas in your bowel. Due to high stress levels, I developed IBS and pretty much destroyed my bacterial flora years ago. It took a while for me to get better (and I mean a looong time), and charcoal pills (taken when prescribed by an actual doctor) helped quite a bit in the worst moments of it, when I had lot of pain due to my malfunctioning bowel, because it developed lots of gas that hurts terribly when it moves around, straightening your bowel's natural folds. Charcoal isn't the devil, it's stupid to demonize it. Like many substances it has its uses, you just shouldn't misuse it. I thought it went per se to know that it absorbs also nutrients of medications. Is people just gulping it down without knowing? You just have to read the booklets the pills come with, that explicitly say that. The problem relies in the fact that many people nowadays think that everything that's "natural" and not synthetized chemically has no side effects by default, because, well, it's "natural". Just try to gobble up a pint of unrefined cocaine or eat a good pan of fried venomous mushrooms. It's natural, how can it hurt you?

charcoal is still commonly used in villages in India for oral hygiene. for the detox yes timing is important. the day you want to take this detox, you should start from the previous day. here is what i do. If I want to detox on a Sunday, Saturday evening I eat light and finish all eating before 5 pm. rest of the evening its just warm water. next day morning 1 take a small teaspoon of activated charcoal in warm water and drink. I take care to not take absolutely any medications that day and I try to stay home or in bed by sipping mostly on warm water. only after about 7 pm I eat something light like a bowl of fruits and another glass or 2 of warm water. what this does is the charcoal gets to attack only the toxins in the digestive track as there is no food or medications. This helps in 2 ways. Firstly the charcoal gets to do its job, secondly the fasting from 5 pm to the next day 5 pm (i do this once a month) actually helps the digestive system to relax . charcoal does help but only if used in the right way. after a few months of this routine you will definitely notice a difference in better skin and hair health and far less body pain.

@@direct2397 i think its for people with stained teeth. Honestly it wont work until you get rid of the enamel of the teeth. Those activated charcoal will do the work after the enamel is thinned or removed of course. Since theyre really fine, they can easily remove staining particles in your teeth that get trapped before your enamel settles. Think if it as sanding rust off of metal but instead of rust and metal, its food coloring and your bones. Hydro peroxide or whichever compound that they use for whitening/bleaching do it differently. Its a chemical reaction that eats away your bone. Much like if you use vinegar/acid to remove the rust from metal. A lot of people are wary of that as instead of physically removing the food coloring, they do so via chemical reaction. This activated charcoal is a safer alternative. It might be less effective as you have to do it frequently to get desired results. Again, you have to get through that protective layer first and with a super fine powder, thats really hard to do. So it requires more and frequent brushing than the bleaching counterpart. If you want to whiten your teeth, just remember to be careful and not use bleaching compound all the time. You want to build that enamel up again. Its not that bad using it everyday, its just you might get sensitive due to only having a thin layer all the time. Also, consult your dentist always.

That doesn't sound too unreasonable, the main irritant in spicy food (and what makes it so spicy) is capciacin. If you are some activated charcoal directly after a spicy meal, or even during it, it could conceivably bond to the capsaicin like it would to other chemicals. I wouldn't do it often, as it will still have a negative impact on nutrient absorption and all that, and I would also look more closely at the exact chemistry; the electronegativity of capciacin, whether it was a polar molecule, what other molecules it tends to bond with, etc. to get a better grasp on if eating charcoal could do more help than harm in that situation. I know it was probably a joke, but honestly it doesn't sound too wild to not work.

It also does work well on your teeth, after you use it the feeling is exactly the same as when the dentist uses the electric rotary brush to clean your teeth. Warning: do not do this more than once every few months, otherwise you will brush your enamel right off! If you do use it to try and "detox" or whatever, it's important to to use it if you don't plan on eating several hours before or after to avoid leaching the good minerals.

To be fair. The whitening teeth part is true from what my grandfather used to do. He Would burn a tortilla to the crisp and use the ashes to clean his teeth. Old man lived to be 100. Passed away recently and not from a stroke or old age. But from pneumonia which my aunts and uncles refused to take him to the doctor for. :/ Old guy still had most of his teeth especially considering he drank cola like water.

I also drink a ton of sulfuric acid each day since I want to overclock the hydrochloric acid in my stomach. That way I can digest food faster! Its genius, you should try it to! (Note: Dont drink sulfuric acid. You will die and you will be in pain the whole time while you die. The chances of survival after swallowing a mouthful of sulfuric acid are almost 0%, the pain you feel will make you vomit blood and stuff and you will generally have a bad time. I'm not saying activated charcoal is good or bad or anything, but I just want to point something out. Why is it that so many people jump onto these health trends and pick them apart to see whether the trend is good or bad, but you don't stop to consider the disgusting substances that can be found in the food you buy at the supermarket? Like I understand picking apart these new health trends because you don't want to ingest or do anything harmful to yourself, why wouldn't you, but everyone seriously needs to also take a look at the ingredients label on your food. Can anyone tell me what inverted sugar is? Can you tell me what process is needed to create high fructose corn syrup? I'm not a health nut like lots of people out there, I just care about my health, which means I don't wanna eat any food with an ingredient list I can't pronounce or ingredients I've never heard of.

The Strong's Concordance reference for the word "sorceries" in Revelation 18:23 is G5331. This refers to the Greek word "pharmakeia," which can be translated as "the use or the administering of drugs" or "poisoning," and can also carry a metaphorical meaning of "deceiving with sorcery."

It's pretty good for getting rid of dirty air in your environment with air filters too and apparently for cleaing/purification of water (see grow videos, rhino filters and primitive technology channels). I'm sure it's handy for a bunch of other things too so think it may be helpful once in a while when brushing teeth. Maybe once every month or two mix up coconut oil, peppermint oil, pink salt, charcoal with touch of hot water to make a paste or maybe mouth wash?? I don't know though wish I did. Alot of these comments in general are freakishly negative with mad name calling and no sourced data on opinions. It's hilarious and sad.

How about Triclosan in Colgate Total?
@AndiGravity
@AndiGravity 6 жыл бұрын
Terrible idea, because it's not 100% effective. It might seem like a good thing to kill off 99% of the mouth germs which aren't particularly bothering you in the first place, but if you stop to think the matter through, the problem becomes obvious in short order. Which microorganisms are going to be left behind? The ones that can survive triclosan. When those triclosan resistant microorganisms breed, what are they likely to produce? More microorganisms resistant to triclosan. Soon enough, you have strains of microorganisms resistant to triclosan floating around in your mouth, and you've lost an emergency measure you could have used to kill them if you weren't dumb enough to overuse it to the point where everything you're using it on has adapted to its existence. Unless your doctor tells you a specific reason why you should, or you work in a healthcare related field, then you *shouldn't* use things like antibacterial soap, cleansing products which contain triclosan, etc. Believe it or not, regular soap and toothpaste tend to be just as effective, and they work in a way microorganisms can't adapt to, so short of an actual medical professional telling you to do otherwise, you should probably stick with them.
