In the context of special relativity and its effects on time dilation, the Voyager 1 probe's age has been delayed by 2.2 seconds as a result of its location in space. It has been in space for over forty years. In the context of general relativity, the Voyager probe has aged around 1 second longer.

The "Caesium Standard" is a primary frequency in which the photon absorption by transitions between the two hyperfine ground states of caesium-133 atoms is used to control the output frequency. The first caesium clock was built by Louis Essen in 1955. It is the cycles of this atom, which is the same everywhere in the Universe and subject to Special Relativity, as we are.

6.03 gps satellites experience slower time because of their speed but quicker because of less gravity. The latter prevails, so their clocks move faster then on earth and need to be adjusted constantly.
@jcb48267 ай бұрын
Great comment! I thought I was going to school you about GPS clocks running slower and the "minimal" effect less gravity would have on the satellite but you are correct, the decrease in gravity does have more of an effect than the speed and causes the clocks to run faster. I guess I've only heard the dumbed down 101 version as most articles only mention the slowing down effect just like this video and I assumed that the reduction in gravity had an insignificant impact. Learn something new everyday.

"The present moment" is just an idea. The past is a concept. The future is a simulation. None have any inherent reality. Time is a conceptual reference system we use to make a consistent world in which to move and interact. So, time is there - conceptually. We need this concept to function. But it has no inherent reality.

In a way we are! We need to go back to r² and the three-dimensional physics of the Inverse Square Law. The spherical 4πr² geometry is key to this concept, based on Huygens' Principle from 1670, which states: "Every point on a wave front of light has the potential to create a new spherical light wave." Each point on the curvature of the wave front can be considered a potential photon ∆E=hf electron interaction exchanging potential energy into the kinetic Eₖ=½mv² energy of matter in the form of electrons. This can be based on E=MC² with the squaring of the speed of light representing a geometrical process forming a square of probability Ψ² We experienced this as a continuously emerging probabilistic future 'time' with the spherical 4πr² surface acting as a boundary condition or manifold for the uncertainty ∆x∆pᵪ≥h/4π encountered in daily life.

There is no such thing as time. We made it up. What we call time is just movement. So when people say time slows down as you approach the speed of light, they need to realize that the clocks used to measure time are based on vibrations (movement). So what happens is movement slows down as object approaches the speed of light, not time. Movement =/= time.

Interesting but unfortunately time travel would cause too many paradoxes. I.e the grandfather paradox, if you travelled back in time & killed your grandfather then you yourself could not exist in the future.
@bobinthewest85597 ай бұрын
The “paradoxes” are not real, because time is not real. If you “travel to the past”… then all of your “future”, up till the point when you “traveled back”… ALL becomes “your past”. Going to “the past” and killing your grandfather… will have no more of an effect on your existence, than killing your grandfather in “the present”. Every moment in “time” however… is now. And the universe doesn’t care if you believe that or not. The universe “just is”.
@jcb48267 ай бұрын
People think about time travel to the past all wrong. We want to imagine some form of detachment from ourselves and able to change events that didn't happen the first time around. If you ever were to ever go backwards in time, time would just rewind or flow back to whatever moment you decided to go back to and you would just repeat the same exact events that you did leading up to when you traveled to the past. You would have no memory of doing so once you go back because you didn't have memory of the future the first time. By traveling to the past you would get stuck in an infinite loop of traveling back then repeating the same events over and over infinitely. If you travel back to a time before you were born then the atoms, molecules and whatever actually formed you physically would just be in whatever place they were before you were born. The same exact events would take place until you were born and eventually travel back in time. This alone solves any paradoxes. You won't just detach from the present universe and pop into a past time as something extra that didn't exist in the first place. If you could detach and appear in the past as something extra that didn't originally exist and affect things like "killing your grandfather" then you just created a completely new timeline the moment you arrived and any event from that point forward doesn't lead to the same time that you traveled from. It would be a completely detached and separate universe and timeline like a branch in a river the moment you traveled back to. Truth is I believe making time run backwards is a paradox in itself. Either you just perceive that you went back in time or your mind has been tricked that you've been transported back in time, like an illusion or if you REALLY go back in time, you have the power and technology to reverse the flow of time for the whole entire universe and everything goes back in time. Then everything in existence is stuck in that infinite loop which may not make sense if something exists outside the universe that it has to follow. The only other possibility I can think of and probably the only actual way to do it is that you basically create a bubble around you and just make yourself younger by reversing time in just your local area but once the process is complete the younger version of yourself still exists in the present time because everything else around you was unaffected and operated normally. You are not actually in the past, you just exist in the present as a past version of yourself. That's more like reversing the atomic age of every particle in the bubble instead of actually making it travel back in time.

I'm not an astrophysicist. Im not even a scientist. But i can tell you that the Universe is infinite. It has to be because there's no such thing as "nothing". Wanna argue? Ok... Try to envision nothing. You got it? Ok... What color is it? See what i mean? Obviously you would imagine it to be black. But black is a color and thats something. And "invisible" is just as relative as time is. And yes im 100% certain that this is way beyond my ability to understand or even be able to intelligently discuss. But there's not a genius alive that can show that I'm wrong. I suppose it's where quantum physics comes in and the question "if there's nobody to observe the universe, does it even exist?" My point is that nothing would be eternal darkness. And darkness is something so.... Nothingness is impossible.

Time is the minds sequencing of the order and rate of events that take place around us. That's why our perception of time can change depending on the forces that interact with us depending on our environment. The effect that speed and gravity have on our mass effects that processing speed and slows it and everything affected by it down. That's why time dilation occurs and why events occur at different rates throughout the universe. Time and the flow of time is not just imaginary, there are forces that affect the flow of things throughout the universe and it needs a concept to define it.
