@@FirstNameLastName-gu1mu Not really. As a native Dutch speaker I can assure you that Afrikaans has little resemblance of present day Dutch. Afrikaans is a mix of English, local dialects and *17th* *century* Dutch. I'm sure we may be able to pick up on certain words between the languages, but truly understanding it might be a step too far. Besides, SA has been dominated by English for over a century by now, which undoubtedly would have had an impact in the Afrikaans language.

I think that it depends on the part of the population they 'belong' to. I think that young and socialistic black people might want this, but that the elders will convince many of them not to do so because of the past with the Apartheid. I think that most of the white population would also want to do this. If your going to live in the Netherlands, though, you might find yourself a little disappointed about the Dutch people specifically if you're both young and black, because they are a little more sceptic about imigrants than what might seem on first sight. I have no problems with people with other skin colors as a white Dutch guy, on the contrary. But there is a significant amount of people who does have a problem with it, and some black imigrants might have a problem with some of our traditions. Unfortunately, racism is an issue in the Netherlands. But to me you're all welcome. The more color, the less boring it is.

@@dutchmaster7790 Afrikaans is 95% Dutch, it's a daughter language. Yes it evolved differently over the past 2-300 years, but it would be more mutually intelligible than a strong Dutch dialect.

I've travelled to Kenya many times in the past years, and I spoke to friends who came to the Netherlands from there. Main thing they say about our country: - Cold - Very good roads and infrastructure (our power and internet always work) - They notice all cities are developed, even rural ones - Good for shopping - So much cheese - Many bicycles (and that's right, there are millions and millions) - Pretty houses - Trains are good (Dutch complain about them, but well we complain about everything) - They think Amsterdam is a country, and don't know the Netherlands - Not many African people; most people are white - Hardly any animals except pets (mostly acts and dogs) - Speaking about dogs, dogs are literally everywhere so if you're scared of dogs, you're going to be scared a lot :P Some things about Kenya: - Much stronger family and friend bonds - Weather is amazing - Food is cheap (depending where you buy it tho, not Nakumatt then :P) - Fuel is cheap (compared to Netherlands) - Not many mzungu's; when I go up country I really stand out and kids yell mzungu all day - Traffic is crazy and busses/matatus are insane - Power and internet are not very dependable yet - Going anywhere by bicycle is close to suicide :P - So many people walk compared to here - Police are corrupt beyond belief - When you hire someone to do work or buy on a market, be prepared to negotiate your ass off. It is way better to go with a Kenyan friend who negotiates while you hide :P. - Everybody assumes you're rich if you're white :/ - Many parks and activities you have to be double or even triple the price of locals (that doesn't exist in the Netherlands, everybody pays the same)

Funny that some say 0,7 % is not enough. Holland is always in the top of developed countries when it comes to aid & development of other nations. Also, 0,7 % means about 5 billion euro's, which is 700 euro's (900US dollars) per capita. Can't really say that is little. It used to be 0,8% which is the target set by the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development). Holland is the only country that actually reaches that target.
