What Alan Wake Always Should Have Been | Alan Wake 2 Review

Look the first Alan Wake game isn't very good but Remedy has proven before that they can deliver some high quality games. Control, I'm talking about Control. 13 years after the first game Alan Wale 2 is here and Tin is gonna find out if its actually good. Spoiler alert: it is.

It's almost eerie how much this review applies to my own views. The first game was one I felt like I SHOULD like more but never did, for the exact reasons you mentioned. I went into 2 with low expectations but was blown away by everything, it improved in EVERY way... until the ending. I hope they do finish the story in the DLCs at least, (even though I too wish they'd finished it in the main game) It would suck if we have to wait like 5+ years to see what happens next. Anyway, fantastic review, I really enjoyed it!

You get the true ending in the final draft as a free download, remember it's not a loop it's a spiral

-- SPOILER(ish) WARNING -- I really don't think the mystery will be solved in the DLC, too big of a story to end there (I mean THAT would be disappointing). There will be Alan Wake sequel(s). This was only one round of a spiral. But yeah, perhaps the ending is disappointment to those who play only AW2 and think they have now beaten the bad guy (and won't play any other RCU game). For me the game triggered to find more info from previous games wtf is going on in RCU. Anyway, even Control is still a mystery, that's why there will be Control sequel(s). We'll see how the story progresses while the RCU keeps unfolding.

You can't really say the DLC is a paywall for the true ending. We don't really know the contents of the DLC yet

Yeah, fair enough. I'm just worried it'll end up like the DLC for the first Alan Wake, but I'm hoping it'll be more like the expansions Control had. The ending just burned me a little. -Tin

@@TinMaxx Spoilers for anyone reading. For me the game’s true ending was Alice basically revealing that she jumped back in to Cauldron Lake, but I get it some people want a more concrete ending. Some people love Inception some don’t. I also don’t think the DLCs will further the main story judging from the names. Lake House is the station in Cauldron Lake so that will probably be FBC / Control focused then Night Springs seemingly alludes to Mr. Door and Alan’s show in the Dark Place

As far as im aware rhey arent paywalling the ending of the game it sounds like the "true ending" is coming in an update later this year with new game plus changjng up smally aspects of the story

@@TinMaxx I totally get what ur saying but I think narrativley wise it works really well to do it this way for alan wake 2 because the story all takes place from Alan's writings and an author doesn't usually write the book once and go"good enough let's release it" so it's kinda like we got to play through the first draft or the 10th draft or whatever but next is the final draft you know?

Disagree, alan wake 2 is trash because one of most important things about this type of game is bad and that is writing.. I played that part when that human at the beggining raised from the dead and killed everyone in the room... the cut scene of that and the cops from outside run in open the door and his buddy slumps throught the opening ripped to pieces and his first words are "Are you all right" to Saga not "Jesus Christ what the hell happened in here" Like a normal person would do. Right after that she goes ALONE in forest looking for that monster instead of calling national guard or something, totally logical move.. And that is just one example out of many.. totally ruined my immersion and made the story totally not believable

Fair enough. I just think every game and sometimes horror especially comes with a certain level of suspension of belief that's required to get into the story. For me, nothing about the story was egregious enough for me to lose that suspension of belief, but hey, everyone's different. -Tin

Soooooo you didn't play far enough to know that the 2 officers that walked into the morgue after that scene were part of the cult and know everything about what happened down there, since the ritual wasn't finished... Which is why they bursted in like they did. Dude's dead, they can't do anything about that, Saga's not dead so "Hey, you alright?". They KNEW Nightingale woke up from being dead. Lol. They're both goofs the entire time they're on screen, and even right after go "Wait. A guy got up from being dead... That doesn't make sense!" because that's what they should be saying, and they're realizing it and acting like they don't know what's going on. But hey, it's bad writing, right? On top of any of that, they become taken later. The story MAKES them part of the story, if the story says they say that, they say that. She's also fbi. She IS the backup. They also DO call backup.. Lol. A tip, don't play this game unless you played the first. You seem lost.
