Favourite part of this video was sitting here giggling to myself, listening to the denial and break down whilst I knew you were right the whole time and were prolonging your own agony by trying to avoid it. 😂

I love the Angel/Lorne buddy moment near the end. All of Angel's other relationships seem so fraught and complicated, but when Lorne says "guys like us" you realize it's a genuine friendship between equals.

At the time, Buffy and Angel aired back-to-back on the same night - so we saw Buffy sacrifice herself in the season 5 finale and then later that evening saw Willow bringing the news to Angel. After the fun Angel episode, it was quite a gut punch seeing Willow's sad face...

Lexi: If they’re not upset enough about his death, I’m going to lose it. Lorne: Oh, honey, I’m right there with you!

Fun fact: "Powers That Be" could have send the vision of Winifred at any other time, but they did it when Buffy was finally accepting her gift so that Angel is not even on that world to do anything about it.

So they left poor Fred there for 5 years just so Buffy could die at the right moment? That’s messed up!

Westley and his compartmentalization, it's that Watcher Council training. He is, after all, from an organization predicated on training young girls as expendable child soldiers.

I'm here to tell you this was an absolute masterpiece at the time. We'd all just watched Buffy sacrifice herself an hour earlier and holy crap, it hurt. This episode of Angel was so dense and funny and action-packed that it made us all forget about it... Right up until the last 10 seconds. Ooft!

This is, among other things, a peak Wes episode. He answers his own question 17:40 ("Why do people keep putting me in charge of things?") at 20:10 ("I need him to think it.") Thats what a real leader can do.

Wesley has always been ruthless. Him being cowardly or incompetent is a result of inexperience and deep-seated confidence issues, but recall that when the Mayor was holding Willow hostage and the Scoobies were contemplating they trade the box of those spider-like demons that were needed to ascend. Wesley wanted to perform a ritual to destroy the box, sacrificing Willow, and Oz took the decision away by destroying the ritual pot. Wesley was always willing to make the cold, pragmatic decisions for the greater good, and had they destroyed the box, Snyder, Larry, and Harmony (and everyone she's ever killed) would still be alive, along with all the others who died on Graduation Day. In that sense, that's something he has in common with Giles, who needed to discuss killing Dawn, and murdered Ben to kill Glory. He does soften a bit under Angel's influence, but that's always who he'll be.

Wolfram & Hart - on Pylea, priests, on Earth, lawyers...both positions of power and influence, and on Pylea the priests do act a lot like lawyers...

I think it's interesting how this episode is sort of bookended by pain and loss (Lorne / Buffy). Both very quiet moments, too, with the one delivering the news (Lorne's head / Willow) not needing to actually say anything to get the message across. And yay, we saved Fred! Poor Gru, though. He was supposed to sleep with Cordy and get psychic powers, instead he has to try to run the absolutely chaotic reconstruction of Pylean society.

I can't believe it has been 21 years since I saw this live. I had forgotten how much fun this arc was to end season 2, it was so different, and I forgot some of the details so it was fun rewatching it. (I did remember the headless Lorne talking but wasn't sure if I was misremembering. Nope!)

The beast Angel turns into is a lot like the werewolf oz turns into in Buffy. It's like he becomes part oz.
@th3phoenix11 ай бұрын
Yeah, it seems Buffyverse vampires and werewolves might be pretty similar on a fundamental level. Humans infected (via a process that includes biting) by a bloodthirsty/flesh-hungry somewhat humanoid monster (demon/beast), with the ability to transform into their monstrous form and go on a rampage. On some worlds their powers are altered, with their transformation having a different extent, timing, and level of control, and they are affected by celestial phenomena such as sunlight or the phases of the moon. The biggest difference is that vampires are soulless undead, and their monstrous side is a demon.

Makes you wonder if Buffy would have tried to contact Angel for his help had he been in the Earth dimension, but I don't think she would have. Angel being around would have just created more issues for her to deal with - there was no guarantee that Angel's team (Wesley in particular), or Angel himself for that matter, would not have agreed that killing Dawn was the only way to stop Glory. I also think that by this point, Buffy had resigned herself to the fact she was not likely to beat Glory. Calling Angel would just have brought him there to die with her, which she would not have wanted. Sad thing is, it's exactly what Angel would have wanted, and we do see this play out somewhat going forward. On the other hand.... it would have been a hell of a crossover.

I had a thought. Although I don't know why they would do it, perhaps one of the priests from Pylea read from the books, sending the drokken into Angel's world in episode 19.

I thought in There's No Place Like Pltz Glrb we were relieved to see Lorne still alive, even though is only in head form. The Priests of course are totally evil. More great comedy when Gunn is in the stocks about to get his head cut off. Amy Acker puts is a great performance as Fred (BTW when you finish Angel, you could if you like watch Dollhouse starring Eliza Dushku, Faith in Buffy, and Amy Acker Fred in Angel it's a superb show). Super scene at the end when Cordelia decapitates the evil priest. Great little scene too when Lorne says to Angel that they both belong in L.A. because nobody is actually from there. We were of course so happy for the gang when they make it back to the hotel, but then seeing Willow there is such a shock for them.
