OMG, my endless gratitude to the Japanese who invented the buckwheat pillow, it saved me from a lifetime of tension headaches, neck and shoulders pain. I tried this pillow (called sobakawa pillow back then, by its Japanese name), after trying many adjustable pillows, which I found very uncomfortable, because they 'forced' me to sleep in an specific location and position. The Sobakawa pillow adjusts to almost any position of the head, and with little accommodation (which I naturally perform without even thinking, probably also during sleeping?) the buckwheat pillow supports my neck and head, perfectly. Heaven. I also want to comment that today the pillows have zipper, thus, people can add or remove buckwheat & "custom made" the best pillow. BTW, I don't use the pillow when stomach sleeping . Of course that I didn't put all the "responsibility" on the best pillow, we also have an amazing mattress (Desire by Serta). The comfortable bed and pillow at home, is better than any supreme hotel we have visited since then.

These pillows solved all of my neck and back problems. I bought them unknowingly... thinking that they were just some nice decorative pillows. One night I had some pretty bad sciatica and decided to use one to lean on when I was on my side and baaamm!!! Every penny and dime spent on these was absolutely worth it! 😍 .... I will say that these are a bit on the pricey side but like I said NO back problems, absolutely NONE! ✋

The noise from a hull pillow is mostly due to the fabric that is used. A static canvas or sateen fabric makes a very loud pillow as the hulls brush up against the fabric and that makes the scratching sound you hear in this video. Use a softer, stretchy double knit fabric and you can reduce the noise factor exponentially while also giving your hulls more freedom to move so the pillow feel less firm. There are much softer hulls on the market that can make an almost silent hull pillow. Millet hulls, spelt hulls, rice hulls and hemp fines are some examples of natural fillings for quieter hull pillows.

I actually sleep on a japanese futon with a tatami matt with wooden boards and a slightly elevated wooden box spring under all of that and my pillow I use is a foam contour pillow but I'm thinking of maybe switching to a buckwheat roll pillow perhaps.

the only thing I don't like about them is for the first week or 2, when you lay your head on it it makes a lot of noise, like placing your head in a bowl of cereal, snap, crackle, pop. But after that the noise quiets down and they offer great support.
@GetGreenBeWell5 жыл бұрын
Do you think the noise disappears, or you get used to it? Because they are quite loud, I agree.

What about for a stomach sleeper? /:

I'm a stomach sleeper who has slept on buckwheat pillows for 20 years. You just take a few hulls out to make it a bit thinner. The best thing about a buckwheat pillow is the ability to adjust the pillow over time!

Thanks for the video! I have really finely ground wood chips. I'm going to use that to make a pillow. Another consideration is that pillows really should not be high at all. I am a big fan of Katie Bowman. Over the past two years I have gradually decreased the size of my pillow so that my head is not in a forward position. Eventually I will not need a pillow at all. I wonder why humans began using pillows.

From the videos I've seen, it might be that I do accommodate the pillow while sleeping, I don't even know, what I know is that I went into research for the best pillow and best mattress as I woke up with tensional headache. I tried different adjustable pillows, I was ready to try anything, even a Japanese buckwheat pillow (which sounds weird to me), but it worked!
